The story might be the absolute worst story I have ever been forced to experience in a video game, and I'm being 100% serious. The characters never shut up constantly calling you being quirky trying to replicate the lightning in a bottle that was Handsome Jack, the entire story is nonsensical, it all but literally ties the Borderlands "story" and "lore" to bed a forces you to watch them rape it for however many hours the nightmare blends together, then they kill off a fan favorite character to push their new character that takes all the things I just talked about and cranks it up 100000%, then to top it off forces you to watch the worst character in the series that is also Cuckthony Burch's pet character who is to blame for literally 90% of the problems in the previous game sacrifice herself and expects you to clap and cry while heroic music plays. It is the biggest piece of total fricking brain melting dogshit I've ever seen.

This is what makes me cautious, because I absolutely fricking want to play it since I'm itching for the looter shooter aspect since I really liked 2, but just about everyone says the story is so bad they can't even turn their brain off to it.

I played a good amount of borderlands 2 a lot of it using some fan balance patch I found that pretty much got rid of common/uncommon drops so that decent shit dropped from most enemies. legendary weapons dropped all the time too, the game has loads of unique fun guns but the base game drop rate is so low that you might only see one or two. It basically fixed BL2's problem where enemies get very bullet spongy a ways in. I was actually finding decent weapons and swapping often unlike the base game where you can end up using shitty feeling guns but it's your only option because of the damage.
Okay so, in terms of balance and progression BL3 really feels like that "patched" version of 2. I played both games with the dialogue volume turned to 0, it actually makes them quite relaxing sometimes.
I played BL1, 2 and pre-sequel (usually with multiple playthroughs with different characters) and I unironically couldn't finish BL3 due to everything related to the story, voice lines and such.
If there is a way to delete all cutscenes and voices before playing the game, do that.
the only redeeming part of the story was pain and terror, it's utterly abysmal
that being said though the story for 1 and 2 weren't exactly good, it feels like a better game but you might prefer to mute it and disable subtitles

Because people genuinely don't think about the things they see in media. They, prejudiciously, see any tribal depiction somewhere and immediately jump to the conclusion that it must be a stereotype and a harmful representation without stopping to think about what they are seeing and without knowing anything about what is being depicted, what is the culture it refers to and how it may or may not be harmful.
Why is this? Precisely because it is considered "inexcusable" -- you can just slam anyone for depicting something that's generally considered questionable and they are not allowed to defend themselves, these things are inexcusable. The current generation was raised to be "media critical" and it is backfiring gloriously. Instead of being critical in the sense of thinking about the shit you read and are fed and looking into the things there, we instead go through a checklist and if one of the "inexcusable" things match with what we are reading we slam it, and the list is not full of things like "racist depiction", it is specifically "depicts tribal jungle culture in any shape or form"
In the end it's about power and also fear of putting oneself into one of these nebulous inexcusable positions where anyone can shoot you down.

The horror elements are very mild and kind of a little tongue in cheek. There's also more gameplay than the usual Five Nights clicking.

My Friendly Neighborhood was pretty good but the final portion felt kind of rushed, especially the Unfriendly Neighborhood section. Felt like that entire area was wasted potential.
The main issue with MFN is that it feels a bit rushed in some aspects, particularly with the main character. This is just me but I get the feeling that the devs intended to flesh out his background a bit more than just being former GI turned maintenance worker with anger issues, like they started developing those aspects of his character but never really got around to what made him into what he was.
battleborn even got the gayest memeband to exist (steam powered giraffe) to make a song for a character that looks like pic related. Very few games can achieve that level of cringe.

The story might be the absolute worst story I have ever been forced to experience in a video game, and I'm being 100% serious. The characters never shut up constantly calling you being quirky trying to replicate the lightning in a bottle that was Handsome Jack, the entire story is nonsensical, it all but literally ties the Borderlands "story" and "lore" to bed a forces you to watch them rape it for however many hours the nightmare blends together, then they kill off a fan favorite character to push their new character that takes all the things I just talked about and cranks it up 100000%, then to top it off forces you to watch the worst character in the series that is also Cuckthony Burch's pet character who is to blame for literally 90% of the problems in the previous game sacrifice herself and expects you to clap and cry while heroic music plays. It is the biggest piece of total fricking brain melting dogshit I've ever seen.

Just how much better is it to do all that than to just replay borderlands 2? Like how much does borderlands 3 beat 2 mechanically?
I played a good amount of borderlands 2 a lot of it using some fan balance patch I found that pretty much got rid of common/uncommon drops so that decent shit dropped from most enemies. legendary weapons dropped all the time too, the game has loads of unique fun guns but the base game drop rate is so low that you might only see one or two. It basically fixed BL2's problem where enemies get very bullet spongy a ways in. I was actually finding decent weapons and swapping often unlike the base game where you can end up using shitty feeling guns but it's your only option because of the damage.
Okay so, in terms of balance and progression BL3 really feels like that "patched" version of 2. I played both games with the dialogue volume turned to 0, it actually makes them quite relaxing sometimes.
I played BL1, 2 and pre-sequel (usually with multiple playthroughs with different characters) and I unironically couldn't finish BL3 due to everything related to the story, voice lines and such.
If there is a way to delete all cutscenes and voices before playing the game, do that.

The current generation was raised to be "media critical" and it is backfiring gloriously. Instead of being critical in the sense of thinking about the shit you read and are fed and looking into the things there, we instead go through a checklist and if one of the "inexcusable" things match with what we are reading we slam it, and the list is not full of things like "racist depiction", it is specifically "depicts tribal jungle culture in any shape or form"

The main issue with MFN is that it feels a bit rushed in some aspects, particularly with the main character.
