What was the reasoning behind making Diablo 4 a weird mix of Destiny and WoW without any of the things people play ARPGs for (Complex itemization, Crafting, interesting skill trees)?

>what was the reasoning for making the game bad
If the devs knew the answer to this I doubt the game would be in its current state, anon.
I think it's safe to assume they just looked at Destiny 2 and WoW and the money they make and just made the game a isometric version of games they already make.
Reasoning seems sound.
Why would people want to play a game that is a lesser clone of two other games?
If you're asking why would they make a lesser clone: Other games are shallow and have few features and make money: Therefore Diablo 4 can be shallow and it will make money.
>What was the reasoning
brainrot
>Complex itemization
diablo has literally never had this
Well what games DO have complex itemization. If Diablo games.
Season 2 is fine. It's just diablo 3 again, as expected.
fast cash and also nowadays consumers just want new products
it's also a diablo game, even if it fricking sucks it's trendy and consumers must like it
they don't want to be "weirdos"
Those games were directly inspired by Diablo 2, a borderline party game for casuals where every build devolved into using the same handful of items, like Enigma, Grief, Hoto, CTA, etc, to farm the same boring content over and over for "omg!!!!!! a Jah!"
It might not be bloated piece of shit coming straight from autistic bald fricks ass straight into your mouth but d2 is far from a party game
>without any of the things people play ARPGs f
Because people that play ARPGs for more than 100 hours are the minority and blizzard doesnt care about you
d4 sold 12m copies, d3 sold 30m copies
They are the biggest arpgs games ever made and they dont pander to the schizo d2boomers
>They are the biggest arpgs games ever made and they dont pander to the schizo d2boomers
Schizo d2boomer here, can confirm. The best ARPG on the market is PD2 in any case.
d4enjoyer here, i think median is way better than pd2
what, you don't like 5000 different variants of "damage go up under specific conditions" stats?
They didn't go hard enough on the mmo aspects for me to enjoy this game long term. I want easier grouping and coop with a queue for dungeons that I can use to match with other people. I also want proper PvP that is balanced and awesome raids and bosses like Lost Ark has.
Imagine you and your 4 friends go into uber liliths lair and it features a mechanical complex 2h super hard dungeong that needs actual strategy to clear with puzzles and branchin paths and an 8 stage lillith boss fight in the end.
God I cum just thinking about it.
>They didn't go hard enough on the mmo aspects for me to enjoy this game long term
Its kinda wild how Immortal has better mmo features than d4
I blame the seething d2 boomers for that.
>muh always online
>muh singleplayer game
Now we got the worst of d2 mixed with the fun parts of d3 but lacking in meat. Skill-trees are horrible and we got a watered down rune system except d3 runes were more transformative with more options and overall you had more spells to chose from. It tells you a lot about the game when D3 with set effects had more viable builds per class than all classes in D4 combined.
I wonder how that happened.
>D2 comes out to great success
>Company is restructured lots of core members leave
>D3 comes out, commercial succes, critical failure
>more core members dissilusioned leave blizzard
>D4 comes out, its shit
>"we are a new team a lot of us working on a game for the first time"
Oh my, just how could this have happened, truly a mystery.
>Try to rehash ancient D2 design goals that were already out of date when D2 released
>How come the boomers with families and kids that don't know shit about modern gaming hate it because it's different and how come zoomies who want modern gameplay and modern mmo design hate it too?
It's just terrible market research and a lack of focus testing not an issue with the production quality or core team. In fact, everyone of these "old core" blizzard members that went away just produces one failed game after another since they were never the reason for their success anyway.
>Try to rehash ancient D2 design goals that were already out of date when D2 released
Not even a problem. D2 for some reason still has quite the playerbase. The problem is more that they did not understand the genre and D2 at all. So instead of using it as a foundation, and build upon it and modernize it, they tore down everything, and built whatever monstrosity they imagined, but since noone on the team knew wtf they were working towards it just alienated a bunch of people. I'm pretty sure blizz making a ARPG at this point and it turning out well is as likely as me making a great sports game. Not fricking happening.
Yeah yeah we get it old good, whatever. You are a cancer to the industry and I hope you die soon, boomie.
>I cant read so I'm just going to post a bait reply
Or are you one of those who want change for the sake of change. Like mixing up the WSAD control scheme for shooters because its old, and old is bad.
Bla bla didn't read, please die you old frick.
Jokes on you, I'm now going to live even longer just to spite you.
activision told bungie to force blizzard to make diablo into a Destiny 2 clone.
People bought it (twice) anyway.
>"Thinking is for moronic chuds who don't want to maximize profit-to-effort ratios."
-Jizzard execs
>twice
?
You don't get the game on Steam if you bough it previously on jizznet, even if you bought the ultimate goy edition. You need to buy the base game again minimum to have your good goy bonuses on steam through your jizzard account
How many people really double dipped thougheverbeit
Not many, but enough.
I imagine porting it over to steam netted them some additional cash but it obviously wasn't a runaway success on the platform.
Diablo 4 looked bad from the word go and I had no interest in it. I'll wait for Grim Dawn's next expansion for my kill and loot craving.
Jizzard continues to con their drones either way, thankfully you and I see through that shit and refuse to buy kusoge like D4. Grim Dawn's as good as it's gonna get for the forseeable future.
I just have to wonder how and why they still get sales.
Like, the writing's been on the wall for a decade by now. You can argue when blizzard really shit the bed but there's no denying it did.
They were even pretty transparent about the development of d4 and none of it sounded good. They were even warning people the game was shit in so many words.
Last Epoch seems fairly promising as well.
Haven't looked into it much. I don't buy early access games anymore.
D4 is like this atrocity spawned between PoE and Lost Ark. And has none of the PoE itemization or interesting seasonal content that tries to introduce new items and content, and it also has none of the lost ark dungeons/raids or any other meaningful multiplayer content it has.
Its wild to me that they released the game in such a barren state, but its absolutely mind boggling that they released 2 non seasons in a row.... no new story, nothing of gameplay value added... for 2 fricking seasons in a row, and now there are already talks of leaked PAID expansions. And you know whats the worst part about it? People will fricking buy it and blizz will make hundreds of mil.
stop asking questions and buy from the cash shop
You're right, they should have made it a Soulslike ARPG like they initially intended.
Blizzard wanted an even boarder audience not realizing that ARPGs are fine the way they are..
That's what I got anyways, I'm not an ARPG enthusiast and I'm not the target audience either
