still remember it vividly. bored kid just doing whatever in pokemon ruby, decided to go on a catching spree on route 102, real weird sunburnt looking seedot appears and I stuff it in an ultra ball. had no clue what shinies are. later on I was at a party and showed some guys the seedot I got and they all freaked out
unfortunately when I went with my dad to visit his friend’s house, one of their sons got ahold of my gba sp when I wasn’t looking and managed to start a new game and save over my file so seedot got lost into the void

I haven't encountered many shinies since I'm a casualgay; I can even list them all off:

Something shitty in a horde battle in X. I have never run into a shiny at full odds and I have been playing Pokemon since Red and Blue
Hatched Froakie in XY. And i was actively breeding for it to get trade fodder, not to keep it since people were going gaga over Shiny Greninja..
Mind you i DID start in Gen1, played every single Gen and replayed the games plenty so it is probably statistically probable it was my first non-guaranteed ones but that was how it was, but i was never much of a Shiny hunter/RNG Manipper. These days it kinda feels like they drop in on occasion even when im not actively looking for one, so that is nice.

Shiny Gastrodon (West) in OG Pearl, i remember i encountered it when using the Pokeradar to get Ditto on route 218
The earliest that I remember getting is a shiny Magnemite from Radar hunting in gen 4, but the fact I was hunting tells me it was probably not my first actual shiny.
I hatched a Grimmsnarl in Gen 8, but I might have had the Shiny Charm by then; I don't remember. I caught a shiny Garganacl in Area Zero. For reference, I am 36 year old, my first Pokemon game was Red Version, and I have played every main line and 3rd version game in the series. I also do not use Repels and run from battle, just so I don't miss potential shinies.
My younger brother caught a shiny Tentacruel in Silver Version. Some people get all the luck.
It was during the bug catching contest in Gold or Silver, I don't remember which pokemon it was. Don't have that any more
Next one I found that I still have was a shiny Bagon
Technically a Tentacruel in Crystal, but I didn't understand what was happening at the time and killed it on impulse because Tentacruel give huge amounts of EXP. The first pure random one I caught was a Nidorina in LeafGreen, followed by a Caterpie that's now a Butterfree.

Shiny abra in Pokémon pearl. Had no idea it was shiny until later cause I was a dumb kid and immediately boxed it.

Picrel is the earliest surviving random but found randoms in Gen 2 (Sandshrew, ran out of balls 🙁 ), Gen 3 fake copies (Zubat and Machop in FRLG), none in 4, 2 in Gen 5 (Zeb in Black, Sawk in Black 2), none in 6, 7 or 8 and 5 in Gen 9 before the charm (Deerling, Psyduck, cubchoo, mareep and wugtrio).
First was a shiny Raticate in Gold.
And then never saw another one again until Scarlet, where I found a shiny Lechonk before even reaching the school for the first time.
Shiny Pichu I hatched in Gold, I think.

Bred in ORAS. Never seen a shiny besides the red Gyarados and decided to fix that.

I get it. The vast majority of shinies have awful color schemes and just look plain inferior to the original. People only like them for their rarity.

One of the worst pokémon ever, but the only reason I'd ever train a Ledian. I remember being extremely confused when I encountered it. At least I didn't reset the game like when I caught Pokérus, as I thought it was a bad thing that could have killed my Pidgeot.
Still have this fella (and a purple Hypno) on my Stadium 2 save.
Lediba sucks in all mainline games but it's incredible for completing one of the biggest challenges in the series: completing purity forest in the first Mystery Dungeon

A shiny Spheal in a nuzlocke run of Emerald. I caught a non-shiny one just a couple minutes prior so I just did a little switcheroo and pretended the normal one never existed.

Pokemon Silver on the Gameboy Color. I was a little kid and fished up a shiny magikarp, which I thought was a glitch and just killed it like the dumbass I was. The first one I properly caught after learning about shinies was a poochyena outside of Lilycove in Emerald.
Spinda in emerald. Due to the way its spots are generated it's probably one of the most unique shinies you can get. It's puke green and sucks.

Actually hunted? Oranguru from Masuda and Zubat from wild encounter work. Actually random? A NidoM ran into me in Crown Tundra and glewblu. All SwSh though.
Besides PoGO shit, I guess, if we are saying random. That was a Bronzor a few months prior to the Nido.
I knew of red gyrados from gen 2, but thought it was just a one off; then about 200 hours into sapphire I encountered a shiny linoone (hard to tell with that pallete, looked off but sapphire had the star to indicate shiny so I knew something was special about it) farming soot and the p.o.s. fled after the first ball.
Years later caught a shiny meditite in a snowy area on diamond. That was the last mainstream pokemon game I played honestly and I had pretty much lost interest by then.
I occasionally will bust out red or crystal and see how far I can get in one sitting, but my batteries in ruby and sapphire are bone dry for sure by now and I managed to complete the national pokedex and damn near the intl. pokedex in leaf green so I doubt I'll ever overwrite that save
i didnt knew what a shiny was when i played Black 2, i thought the shelmet i found was one of Ns pokemon since it shined similar to the zorua and i got super exited
to bad that shelmet is most likely lost somewhere in the USA as i made the mistake to lend my brother the game for his trip and he lost it and a white DS on some hotel

I think my first shiny was a tentacool in emerald, though I lost it years ago when my emerald cart got lost/stolen. I miss having the secret bases of all my childhood friends on it more than any of the shinies

First shiny I ever found was slugma in leaf green. I did not know what a shiny was nor had any balls to catch it. Second shiny was a cacturne in diamond that I caught with the speed and fury of a thousand exploding sun's. Then I found a chansey a week later same game.
