Nothing. Souls games got too popular so we hate them now, and that retroactively makes all of them bad. Now you're supposed to pretend you've always hated them and are a huge Armored Core fan that toally new about the series before this year and are super mad that the new game is influenced by soulshit.
>poise
You aren't serious, right? Poise ruined DaS because of how overpowered it is. You can just stack good armor to tank everything while melting everyone's HP, all of that without the need to roll.
DS3 fixed it with hyperarmor. Now you don't have moronic estoc builds that get rewarded for stacking generic armor that everyone can use. You have to commit to your build.
Almost nothing aside from no teleporting and allowing the save points to do all sorts of shit like leveling without fricking about with a hub.
Otherwise, it downgraded Demon's Souls combat and has arguably the worst levels in franchise outside of DS2
No teleporting for the first half is what made the game kino though. You don't remember finally making it back to fire link after spending hours trudging through the depths and blighttown for the first time?
>DS1tard in charge of reading
Yes, the lack of teleporting makes it more adventurous despite some absolutely dogshit levels. The biggest crime of the later games is not having them setup this way.
A lot of focus was put on the world, and to make the game feel like an adventure, with minimal time spent on menus and loading screens. One of the purest gameplay experiences out there.
Sequels threw that out the window for poor reasons.
4 kings is great and also before O&S you secondary. The only objectively shit area is Lost Izalith due to it being unfinished. Duke’s Archives and TotG is kino, if they got rid of Lost Izalith and the piss barriers it might even be ludo
Duke's Archives is an alright level. So is New Londo and the DLC. Really the only shit parts in the second half are Izalith and the Catacombs/Tomb of Giants
NTA but New Londo sucks and is just a shitty flat texture maze. I don't know why this level gets a pass. Archives are okay, but Crystal Caves is one of the worst levels ever made. There are also parts in the early game that blow, like Great Hollow, Ash Lake, Valley of the Drakes.
Ash Lake (and GH by extension as the buildup) is pure kino in every sense of the word, it’s not meant to be a full on “gameplay” area. Valley of Drakes serves to connect several areas.
New Londo is awesome, one of the most atmospheric areas in the series. Draining the water and revealing mountains of pale corpses was awesome. Crystal Caves are an OK gimmick but there should probably be a bonfire before Seath. Great Hollow is just a fall puzzle that every one of these games has, like that hole in Majula. Ash Lake looks very cool, even if it's a simple level. Valley of Drakes is a transistional area-knot-thing that is there to connect New Londo, Blighttown, Darkroot Basin and Firelink.

if you let what morons on reddit are saying dictate your opinion of a game then you are no less moronic than them
Since the point flew over your head, I'll explain it. The guy whined about the later games going for "the Reddit audience," when really, the second they had an advertising budget, they went for the Reddit audience. At no point does this dictate my opinion of the heavily flawed game
we're talking about game design, not marketing, you stupid shithead.

explain how the game design of the games after DS1 is "reddit"
This should be rich

i'm not the person who claimed the later games were designed to appeal to reddit, i'm just pointing what a fricking moron you are for calling ds1 peak reddit because it was the inspiration for reddit memes.

It was meant to point out the ridiculousness of his point
2 was handed off to a C team
3 leaned too hard on porting over Bloodborne design and was too linear
Elden Ring needed more time in the oven and was terribly balanced for PVE
Dark Souls 2 shit itself during development and they never attempted interconnectivity again because it requires more effort and moronic Black person slave cattle doesn't care about it anyway
Map was effectively one big dungeon
Fun combat
Interesting bosses
Decent RPG mechanics and build variety
Experienced players can use game knowledge to make it faster to progress for subsequent runs
NG+
Co-oping was worth it
PVP was fun when it was alive
They really struck gold with it. They came up with something good and every game they made afterwards was an attempt at recreating that. But with each itteration it becomes more stale and strays further from what made it good.
nothing
FPBP. Soulslike cancer has been a blight on gaming and this piece of trash
started the trend.
Minimal cut scenes so you don't have to spend 3 hours not caring about some gay story, it just puts you right in the game and says have at it

>DS1 and earlier
sovl, certified Gankercore
>DS2 and beyond (with exception of sekiro)
derivative flanderized goyslop for redditors
BB is their best game by a mile and peak atmosphere for the series.
poise
good weight to attacks
tight controls
consistent timing for actions
>poise

you can win against Lv200 havel moms in the forest with 0 poise
Good level design
Improved combat from Demon's Souls
Game knows what it is and doesn't try to go full cuhrayzee with the bosses and enemies
It has SOVL, which every fromsoft game afterwards lacked (except vanilla DS2)
Almost nothing aside from no teleporting and allowing the save points to do all sorts of shit like leveling without fricking about with a hub.
Otherwise, it downgraded Demon's Souls combat and has arguably the worst levels in franchise outside of DS2
No teleporting for the first half is what made the game kino though. You don't remember finally making it back to fire link after spending hours trudging through the depths and blighttown for the first time?
It also makes it feel like an accomplishment when you do finally beat O&S and can teleport

Nothing after O&S, that's for sure.
NPC take
Enjoy your bed of chaos and 4 kings then bro. Great level design too with random dragon asses standing around.
4 kings is great and also before O&S you secondary. The only objectively shit area is Lost Izalith due to it being unfinished. Duke’s Archives and TotG is kino, if they got rid of Lost Izalith and the piss barriers it might even be ludo

Two shitty linear levels with basically nothing in them and Ash Lake is totally unfinished
Post your hand, please.
Why?
New Londo is awesome, one of the most atmospheric areas in the series. Draining the water and revealing mountains of pale corpses was awesome. Crystal Caves are an OK gimmick but there should probably be a bonfire before Seath. Great Hollow is just a fall puzzle that every one of these games has, like that hole in Majula. Ash Lake looks very cool, even if it's a simple level. Valley of Drakes is a transistional area-knot-thing that is there to connect New Londo, Blighttown, Darkroot Basin and Firelink.
DaS1 late game areas are still better than most of what we got in the sequels. Izalith is poor, but compares well to DS2 levels lmao
World design.
Also atmosphere and art design
Was filled with horny sexy bawds
Demons Souls > Dark Souls > Bloodborne is the true trilogy
Why couldn't the other souls games capture what made Dark Souls 1 good?
They went for the reddit audience
DS1 was peak Reddit.

??? I guess you just had to be on this board back when it came out…
You had to be around for Demon's to see the demonstrable change in culture. I guess post your DES plat date. This was my second plat of the game
>haven't gotten pure badestone for years of hopping on and grinding out hours in pure black tendency
you just got lucky lmao
>lucky
It take an hour or two of grinding. This is my second platinum of the game, actually.
again, lucky, nothing dictates you'll get it in 2 hours, or ever at all.
You make that same claim about something you had a 99% chance of getting. Anyways, they were easy to farm
>i was 13 in 2010
fricking oldhead boomer shouldnt you have better things to do like take care of your child than post here you virgin ahh hoe
That's nice, I was 15

2 could, but development hell.
3 and later entries are post-Bloodborne.
Demon's Souls is better
BB too
Map was effectively one big dungeon
Fun combat
Interesting bosses

Experienced players can use game knowledge to make it faster to progress for subsequent runs
NG+
Co-oping was worth it
PVP was fun when it was alive
Tomb of the Giants was kino
OH MY GOD PLEASE HELP ME KNEE DEEP IN THE RIVER TRYING TO BREAK FREE
HE SAYS WASH YOUR HANDS
Paved the way for the better later games, like Sekiro/BB
Talented and devoted people bringing their passion togheter to create the best gaming experience possible. I think.
Everything.
It's the best Souls game by far.
They really struck gold with it. They came up with something good and every game they made afterwards was an attempt at recreating that. But with each itteration it becomes more stale and strays further from what made it good.
Design that they improved on with a certain game we're not allowed to talk about
This is out of date. BB is 8.9 user now... so its aggregate is 90.5
what's exactly is the point here? that hordes of normies discovered the latest fromsoft game, got filtered, and cried about it in metacritic reviews?
The normies were on-board when DES sold like 2m units and then they gave it away twice on PS+
and there was always whining about it needing an easy mode. 10 times the sales, 10 times the whining. makes sense.
>ga(y)meplay after ds1
I miss when the game came out and was loved by Ganker, had the best threads back in the day.
