What went RIGHT? Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be a contender to WoW and FFXIV. Also MMO thread.

No it isn't. End of Dragons was a joke, just like the rest of GW2.
Nah.
Hey guys, can I be an MMO too?
No
Don't you play with like, 8-players max in PvE content?
Arenanet ruined everything that made Guild wars special
They should shut this embarassment down and go back to guild wars 1.
It's funny how Guild Wars 2 launched a year before A Realm Reborn did, and yet you don't see it anywhere. Hell, I don't even know what it looks like in motion. I've heard the name, and heard WoW is ripping off the flying. That's about it
>shaping up
bro it was amazing when it came out
havent played it in like 8 years though, are you saying it’s even better now?
i quit because i felt like it was starting to get turned into shit, 8 whole years ago
What did it do so right when it first came out compared to now?
probably the most unsatisfying combat I've experienced in an mmo, everything feels like it has zero impact
this.
gw3 with a sick new engine and proper combat, now that would be kino
>2022
>Still can't hide anything but your helmet
>No good cosmetics have been added for over 6 years now
Games dead in the water.
What are you talking about? You can hide the helmet, the pauldrons and the gloves, what else do you want?
an option to hide the troonyshit
You need to lay off that LSD.
Was about 10 years ago. GW2 in its 1st year is the peak of MMO games. Can't think of a game that fell further.
It's a shame no one else on Ganker wants to play Wizard101. It's genuinely fun with a unique combat system no other MMO has and has one of the best housing systems in any MMO.
>a unique combat system no other MMO has
that sounds like shit
>max level is 80 because wow had level 80 once so it must be good right
>events boil down to joining a swarm of people around someone and blobbing into it, no tactics or choices just press buttons and win
>living story bullshit that makes you pay extra because you weren't there when they released a chapter of it
>bleedout/downed state in pvp
>literally NO game has done the GW1 formula for gameplay
What the frick
What the actual frick
Someone do it. Post the video.
The only way GW2 can even stand against those other 2 is because WoW shit the bed for the last 5 years. And FFXIV is so mismanaged it's a fricking joke. GW2 is one of the worst MMO's developed.
Only thing guild wars 2 did correctly is movement on foot and for the mounts. They could not even keep jeremey soule to make music for the expansions.
>nearly a decade old
>company has nearly gone under twice
>all the leads quit
>run on a skeleton crew
>one of the companies worst reports on their shareholder calls every year for at least eight years
This is sad. Of all the things to try and gaslight yourself about.
I heard the gw2 cash shop was really bad. Also that the writing is all yass kween troony shit
c/d?
Confirmed. It's even worse than you're probably imagining as well.
Aside from pumping out tons of garish skins to fill the cash shop (instead of creating actual content, imagine that), the monetization isn't as bad as most MMOs.
Movements and mounts are the highlight of the game.
The combat and encounters get better as time goes on. Playing the personal story (core game story) feels like shit compared to later stuff.
The writing is absolute shit, that's 100% accurate.
You posted this thread 10 years too late, everyone has moved on form GW 2 already.
The forced story content is such shit compared to the rest of the game. I finally quit out of boredom because of it.
How do you guys feel about fishing in MMOs?
I generally hate gathering activities in mmorpgs. tradeskills are fine but ingredients for them should come from combat/adventure not clicking shinies on the ground.
What games do it best, or what way makes gathering interesting?
I liked gw2 "gathering" in the sense that there were these trains of people that ran around based on timers, and because the gathering was based on timers, there were also enemy spawns tied to those timers so you actually had to fight things before the next resource node popped up.
>I generally hate gathering activities in mmorpgs
What. It's so relaxing. The only gathering I was annoyed with in any MMO was mining in FFXIV. Just hearing TING TING TING over and over again causes a headache. Fishing in XIV is genuinely comfy though and it's pretty in-depth.
new world is the only mmo that did gathering right
too bad everything else sucked
After being halfway done the fishing I need for the Diadem mount in FFXIV I never want to see another fricking fish for the rest of my life.
GW1 was better because the game was actually difficult
>ten year old game
>still horribly unoptimised
they'll never top the first game
is it good for cooming though?
The upside of most of the things in that list is that it's a really good singleplayer mmo. The lack of trinity makes the singleplayer totally doable which I really enjoyed as someone who doesn't play mmo's.
>singleplayer mmo
>really good singleplayer mmo
mmos have to make concessions on gameplay and story in order to fit into being an mmo so if you want to play a single player game just play an actual single player game thats guaranteed to be infinitely better since you clearly dont have any friends or social skills youre wasting your time playing these pieces of shit
>What went RIGHT?
Couldnt say because the game never released
I'm surprised that GW 2 is still going after 10 years.
I never hear any news about it.
Made by troons, for troons.
They should have just made open world GW1 with jumping and the game would have been 10 times better.
I unironically forgot this got a full expansion
I looked it up to see if it would be fun to play a living story or something and I saw some intensely cringe cutscene that instantly killed the whole thing for me
its pretty tragic how fricking unbearable their "iconic" story npcs are, playing this for the lore would be like nails on chalkboard it seems
i miss her bros....
people wanted uniqueness of GW1 with the different builds and playstyles and party comps, instead they got some dumb budget mmos where all the dungeons and every boss fight boil down to everyone in the party stacking on top of each other and mashing every button without considering what any of them do to trigger all the different effects, it ruined any sense of class identity and any possibility ever of strategy or dungeon crawling feeling
