Sony lost in the 7th gen but not by that much. Their frick-ups have never been as bad as Microsoft's, even with the PS3's $600 pricetag and moronic PSUs. People still had a lot of attachment to them that let them survive and even thrive during the PS3-era.
Mattrick's frick-up is on a whole other level. Imagine if, while the Wii U was dying, Iwata had fired or laid off hundreds of developers and basically dissolved 90% of the EPD divisions. Do you think the Switch would have been able to get big without anyone around to actually make the games? Do you think they'd have been able to build back that trust with employees, let alone external developers?

I doubt Microsoft will kill Playstation. But, as of now, they hold Playstation's life in their hands, so they have more leverage to deter Sony from being too aggressive and fricky. Which is good for everyone
Playstation can only ever be player-friendly when they have to compete, same with Microsoft. The more equal they are in market standing, the better it is for players

Both of them are literally giving the biggest video game market to Nintendo, because their audiences have convinced them these genres don't matter. When in reality, Nintendo is profiting majorly from them.

I have no idea who's in charge of their sales and marketing, but they're either so limp wristed that they just let the studios do whatever they want, or they're painfully incompetent and don't know how to appeal to anyone so they just try to appeal to everyone

So now they have to find some group who isn't spoken for or is on the fence about where they play games.
Xbox 360 used to be the place for the Madden/CoD Dudebros but then Playstation took them with the PS4 era. So it's not that Xbox doesn't know who their audience is but they have to find a new one that neither Nintendo nor Playstation have put a stake on
With the amount of IP they now own they should be selling 100+ million consoles per generation coming up. If they can't do this they are an absolute failure of a company. I may give them a pass with the Series consoles but after this gen if they can't somehow muster that kind of sales then they are just trash. You have all these fricking franchises you cucks. They cancelled a lot of their anticipated titles and hand their brands off to people that openly talk about how they hate the brand they're working on.
If Halo 4 onward was just about other Spartans doing Spartan stuff or an ODST/Marine series, it would have been much better received. But they thought they had to eliminate 90% of the military science fiction aesthetic and try to "Fix" Master Chief and the Halo Franchise that was already well liked.
Gears has the same problem with the Swarm being fricking stupid as an antagonist and Gears of War 4 being 50% shooting gay robots.
Publicly execute all 343 devs and give Halo to literally anyone else to make a competent Halo. For a lot of people (myself included) it only takes 1 or 2 games to sell a system and Microsoft can’t even manage that anymore.

The games are not as good as they were on X360, and PS has a monopoly on "action movies" games.
Get Activision to make a good Halo Battle Royale (vehicular combat is fun).
Get Ninja Theory to make a DMC look a like (they don't own the franchise, but the mechanics,art and combat are good).
New Banjo and Conker, get the guys at Playtonic.
New Ori, Moon Studios is one of their finest studios (Third).
A good Gears game (5 was fine, specially the Hivebuster campaign).
Battletoads was not so bad, do another one, Killer Instict 4 too.

Moon studios in my opinion could have become one of the best Xbox first party studios if only they didn't left Microsoft for some fricked up reason. (Microsoft also wanted to acquire them at some point) what a shame.

But they won't need to if they can successfully move the industry to that of a service where Game Pass can be played on PC, Xbox, iPhone, Android, Samsung/LG TVs.
