T-Thanks AlphaDream. I still miss the M&L games though, I should just steal the combat system for my own RPG or something.

Cope. They made bros moves more mario-like. “Random acrobatic flinging #8263828” or “cool door that creates infinite mario and luigis to jump on the boss forever just like super jump from SMRPG”
      The choice is obvious.

        Anonymous

In Superstar Saga the Bros jumped, shot fireballs and swung hammers a whole bunch. Seems fitting to me, plus the more acrobatic flinging fits the characters, the setting and lends itself to more creative, memorable and fun to pull off moves. Shit like using Fire Flowers or kicking shells could still be in, just make them items imo.

They really should done this instead of Paper Jam and two remakes. Pretty much every Mario fan would jump on getting to see and play as Wario and Waluigi in M&L.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of mandate in place preventing anyone that didn't really have much presence in the mainline games from showing up in the RPGs. Mario RPGs have been ongoing for almost 30 years, but the core Mario cast in them still hasn't really expanded beyond:
      >Mario
      >Luigi
      >Peach
      >Bowser

The most acknowledgement Wario ever got is a palette swap in TTYD. It's a miracle Bowser Jr. even started showing up in these games around the 2010s. Not even when she was considered "Nintendo's Lightning" did Rosalina get that.

        Anonymous

I genuinely doubt there was an actual mandate in place. Every time someone brings it up they always make it sound like some bizarre conspiracy. I'll definitely admit that Mario's games during the Wii U and 3DS era felt a lot more creatively strained, but I'm guessing that's in part because of AlphaDream's money problems and Nintendo's struggles with making higher fidelity games at the time.

          Anonymous

I don't really mean it in the same way as what you're thinking, though. Wario's cameo in Superstar Saga was cut despite him also being a Mario character unlike the other cut cameos, so this is something that likely goes far back.

            Anonymous

Oh, like that. Given that he was playable in SM64DS I would've figured Wario is up for grabs for games outside of the sport ones and Party, but they seem strangely hesitant to do so, you're right.

64DS's roster is definitely an anomaly. If it happened today the fourth character would probably be Toad instead. A few years ago and Toadette likely would've replaced Yoshi too.

Wario I think was them struggling to figure out a character that fit the "power" gimmick to assign black blocks, the Metal Cap and poor mobility to, and still controlled vaguely like Mario. Would have been down to Wario and Donkey Kong at the time and Wario fits better as an intruder on the game's events

You should include Paper Jam, it's still a Mario and Luigi game at it's core, has amazing gameplay and bosses, cuts a lot of the usual filler, and despite it's "issues" related to not being a crossover, it's still a better game than PiT, and I say this as someone who still thinks the Shroobs are the best Mario villains.

The King Bob-omb fight was pure excellence.

When you go read the interviews and development reading, you come to realize Paper Jam was never meant to be a crossover.
Even the "deeper story" was just about what else would happen and nothing related to the actual crossover.
They could've replaced Paper Mario with like, 8bit sprites of everyone, cause that's what the actual plot was, an alternate version of Mario and friends.
They just chose to do Paper Mario cause it was there, and frankly, they made the paper gimmick work, in usual M&L fashion, they made a game with a gimmick mechanic.

So I don't hate it frankly
Lack of OC's does suck, but I feel like they mitigated this with the amount of Mario characters that haven't debuted in M&L or proper reintroductions like the Koopalings, including a shit ton of enemies that haven't appeared in an RPG

It's really obvious that the only reason that game happened was that they could recycle all the sprites from Sticker Star.

It could've worked. It was never going to be popular or sell millions, but it's got that EarthBound charm that attracts a more devoted, smaller fanbase. A second entry that tightened up the screws on the gameplay and went even further with the bizarre locations and characters was just what the doctor ordered.

My ideal next game would be following up the fact that Bowser still has the shroobs frozen in his basement.
Let them thaw out and take their revenge, the focus of the game can be on Princess Peach, she's literally the one character that sticks out as absolutely nothing compared to the usual development this game does.

Peach vs Princess Shroob would be based

I really liked how Paper Jam toned down the bros moves, Dream Team's bros moves were great but they dragged on and on, PJ had a bunch of them that just happen pretty fast and save the usual long attacks for Trio.

The Superstar Saga remake was perfectly fine, it's hard to recreate a wonky artstyle and they did their best with the original characters and species, despite the usual Mario designs being toned down.

The Bowser's Inside Story remake is absolutely fricked though, the music isn't as good, and they actually changed mechanics that make it worse to play

      >The Superstar Saga remake was perfectly fine, it's hard to recreate a wonky artstyle

Sounds like a lot of cope coming from you considering SMRPG remake maintained the artstype faithfully. The SS and BIS remakes were mediocre last second cashgrabs.

I fricking hate the incredibly long gimmick bros moves they switched to starting with the second game. The first game was a PERFECT timed-hits RPG and they fricked it up immediately.

  29. 3 months ago

Nothing went right. Getting rid of Bros Moves from THE FIRST GAME and making every attack an 80 second minigame with items you buy was a terrible decision. People wanna b***h about Sticker Star but never once gripe about PiT for using fricking items as your primary source of attacking. The combat is nothing but Mario Party minigames during your turn.

I've been b***hing about it for years, PiT is an absolute disgrace. The combat system was so unfun I avoided most fights and then I was so underleveled the final boss took a real life 3 hours.

It's worth noting that Alphadream was already made up of Nintendo and Squeenix devs, when they filed for bankruptcy, they just went back to their usual positions.

They unironically came back because of the Mario RPG remake, not the same exact team but if anyone is to continue M&L, it would be this partnership

They pretty much perfected the franchise with Dream Team (lack of slapstick Bros. Attacks for most of the series' life aside) and there was nowhere to go. Mario & Luigi were nailed down for how to play in BiS and anything from there would just be reintroducing Hand or some other attack method and giving you new Bros. Attacks to play with. Innovation could really only happen with abandoning the Bros. as a mold leading to Bowser and Dreamy Luigi fights. I'm sad that Alphadream died but Mario & Luigi very much was digging its heels in the dirt just to justify its own presence after Dream Team and Alphadream fricked up really bad in not putting the M&L remakes onto Switch.

They're a sub-race of Hylians and they have physiological differences, apparently insular enough that they developed white hair (negotiable) and red eyes that aren't present in any of the other races
Obviously though don't think about it too hard because all the races have been genetically separate for the eons that Zelda takes place over, Gerudo genes are so dominant that there's a 0% chance of male birth if Ganondorf is currently alive since for some reason he's always the male Gerudo born into the tribe, Zoras likely have Hylian blood in their lineages since pair-offs with Hylians aren't uncommon, and Gorons literally don't sexually reproduce

My only problem with the game is that it's too long. Even in the length is justified by having more mechanics than the previous games (also resulting in more tutorials), it makes me a game that I won't just pick up and beat every once in a while like SSS.
