What went so wrong?
>inb4 it's a korean MMO
Yeah but it had SOUL starting out. It's so dead now. It used to be one of the more active generals on /vg/ but even that general is close to dying.

Sometimes I get the urge to play it again before remembering how fricked the new player experience is. Typical catering to endgame autists that want to rush through the journey.
I want to get back on just to go fishing
they ignored all the beta testers because they didnt use the bug report system but the report system was bugged and didnt work
how's was the erp scene?
They should take all the art assets and reamp the game in to a more non-linear experience and make some gameplay changes
This kind of game just doesn't work in the modern market. No one wants to explore or try interesting shit; just look up the meta builds and go straight to endgame.
I wanna play this for the first time what should I know before starting? Not trying to commit to it I just want to experience a new MMO.
just play our Ragnarok pserver
Nah I took off my nostalgia goggles a long time ago and realized Ragnarok is actually boring
Remember the game having a shit launch and I really wanted to play it but heard bad things.
Launch was a fricking disaster but the chaos was fun
>korean mmo
>soul
Some Korean MMOs, although very little, do have soul in terms of music and design but ultimately they all fall to greedy developers.
thanks for the good review, i can safely avoid ToS then
>Make ARPG you can control with a controller
>Absolutely shit the bed by having the combat be worse than games made in the 90's, with enemies that basically never attack you and are just walking sacks of HP for you to mindlessly grind with zero thought put into it
>Some jobs have heaps and fricking heaps of useless shit like single target CC in a game where you need to be grinding mobs woodchipper style
Why did they even fricking bother? Might as well have just made a tab target game. I will never not be mad at how much wasted potential there is.
I remember listenign to the pre-release ost and beign so excited brehs...
My go-to choice if I'm going to be grinding shit in some game forever.
Nobody ever talks about Trickster Online which had miles of more soul than both ToS and Ragnarok
i have never heard of this game in my entire life.
Every other song in this game is a masterpiece.
>make character
>grind up to max level with xp multiplier tickets
>realize I do shit damage
>ask how to not do shit damage
>get told I need to grind some place so I can do a months long timegated grind for equipment
>quit
also the game ran like shit
It has worse combat than Ragnarok Online
it's that bad
I tried it a few months ago. But like all mmos older than a year the early game is a butchered mess where you run around 1 shooting screens of enemies and every boss dies in 1 hit because the game got "streamlined"
It ruins the fun of playing through it and skipping to the end sucks just as much.
I really loved the art style and the perks if exploration though. Really triggered my completion autism. But lack of customization and the "streanlined" gameplay killed any desire to play more than the 50-100 hours I have on it.
I wanted Ragnarok 2, instead I got a boring grind fest.
>grind fest
but that's Ragnarok
I didn't like that actually used 3D instead of sprites, also added a lot of the shit kmmo systems that were thankfully absent from RO
I believe Tree Of Savior still has decent popularity in KR
Tree of Savior was a huge betrayal. I try not to think about it, makes me want to cry over the wasted potential.
What I miss the most are the /vg/ bros and the guilds. Those two years were a wild ride.
Yeah just look at the ToS general now. Dead as frick. The archived one has 50 replies. I swear it was one of the more active generals no more than a year ago.
Back during the beta test days it was probably the fastest thread on the website. And it was among the top for years.
And it wasn't just quantity, the quality was excellent too. I still have my /tosg/ folder and it's full of fanart. A bunch of people had their characters drawn.
>Yeah but it had SOUL starting out.
lol no it didnt
it took nothing from Ragnarok Online and instead they just crapped out a linear hallway Korean WoW-clone quest hub simulator instead
LITERALLY all people want is Ragnarok Online again, but fricking moronic asiatics keep trying new shit that doesnt work
Stupid take. The original vision for Tree of Savior was fine. Sure it was no Ragnarok Online but it was something you could work with.
If the AI had been improved like
said and the maps made a little less linear, it would have been the best modern MMO of all time.
But they didn't go down that path. Instead they ruined everything that was great about the game. Plus the performance and security issues were not dealt with as quickly as they should have been, causing the game to bleed players beyond its ability to recover. Client exploitation, 10 FPS if more than 5 people were on screen, long loading screens, that one time when group questing broke so people couldn't play the game with friends.
And then ToS pulled out the single most stupid move of any MMO, of all time. A move so legendary that would be talked about for years after.
They couldn't handle the massive loads of new players wanting to get into their new game. Every single days, thousands of new players.
What's the solution? LET'S FRICKING CLOSE SIGN UPS, SO NEW PLAYERS STOP COMING. That's right, an MMO that didn't allow new players to join at all.
These people should never be allowed to touch another video game ever again.
I tried playing this back in 2017 but it just felt awful all around. Quests were boring. Combat was shit. Maybe it was just me but I detest that isometric top-down whateveryoucallit.
El moronado
>11 hours
How do you play a game for that long and not come to the conclusion sooner that it's a shit game? If I knew a game were shit I'd stop playing it at 2 hours max and never play it again.
I thought it would get better. I reached level 30-something and realized it wouldn't so I just stopped.
I actually liked the combat and class combinations with all the visual/sound/music it has. Too bad the devs didn't know what made RO good, expanding the shit aspects while ditching the good ones. The fact that they were shit at coding and management as well was just the cherry on top.
Jesus christ homie. What do you do for that long in a game?
Playing different characters trying to keep them geared up with a guild that shared the same mindset that the the devs are incompetent fricks. The classes were the one fun thing in the game. However even I couldn't bear it anymore after they added more layers of fricked up RNG ontop of the existing ones and months of grinding could be ruined in five minutes.
What a waste of time.
Everything about the presentation of Tree of Savior was great. But it suffers from Dead MMO syndrome. They want to instantly boost you to max level so you can join the endgame-focused content.
The good news is that a ToS emulator is being developed. Maybe we can fix the game in about 10 years.
Sounds like the perfect time to hop in then if you never played it, other than the game being supposedly dead now.
Well the music was good. I also remember CBT1 being good, Then they decided to reduce the amount of monsters on the maps and their exp because the game was coded like shit. Worst decision ever. Clearing some monster kill quests took like 30-60 minutes after release.
The game has housing and fishing. Is that any fun? I love side activities like that in MMOs and if it's good it's enough for me to give it a try.
It's a shame, they had so many cool classes like the necromancer that gathers up monster parts and fires it like a cannon. Synergies were cool too like using cryomancer to make icewalls and then hitting it with some pscyhokino skill to shatter them. I'd play a private server if their server data ever got leaked just to frick around.
