each season the playerbase was increasing and they abandoned it to work on 2 shitty spinoff games everyone's already forgotten about, a $200 board game and a $400 figurine set.

It's still the very best co-op action game ever made. It easily BTFO of shit like HD2 in content, attitude and complexity.
It's tiny in size, well optimized, has no p2w or FOMO shit, has private servers and modding out of the box, and is a prime example of how to do early access RIGHT : push it out when it's ~70% done, release it, and still provide support.

There's literally nothing you can unlock with real money. There's also nothing you can "miss" by not playing in time.
All the seasonals bring are new game modes and cosmetics ... and occasionally new gameplay toys too, like weapons and OCs. That being said, it is already pretty bloated.
The "battlepasses" are free though, there isn't even an option to pay for anything.
The only DLC they have is normal cosmetic packs which aren't timed in any way. There isn't even a FOMO element to the seasons, since anything you miss out on just goes into the normal pool of stuff to unlock. They're also adding a way to replay past seasons soon.

I love refinery and point extraction. I did exquisite, aesthetique tunnels and bunkers. I love using cryo to freeze the whole horde and popping them with my collette. I love that I can use sludge pump to frick over dreadnoughts and their gay armor. I love every extraction being drilling a straight shot back to the drop pod.
are you telling me you're sick of "tube of rock in a T shape acting as a bridge, it's too high to climb so drillers are fricked"? You might also prefer lava maps where the tunnels cut through a giant room and therefore you have no natural way to lay pipe to objectives, those are GREAT haha

Only issue I have is how unceremoniously they announced ending support, after months of radio silence everyone was expecting an update announcement only to receive the announcement that we're basically never getting meaningful updates again. If they had done one big update and said well in advance 'this is the last one' I don't think people would have had anywhere near the amount of problem they did.

unfortunately i got into the game pretty late and it felt like i experienced pretty much everything i wanted kinda quickly (<30 hours). i liked getting stuff for my dwarves and the upgrades are cool but i didn't want to do the same things over and over just to unlock more stuff for the same content. wish i had played it sooner to experience updates. also now i have to deal with neckbeards whining to me about some gay meta strat even though we're actively crushing whatever mission.
