half the classes are trash in comparison with the rest of them. psyker sucks at dealing with ranged enemies and doesnt kill fast enough or deal enough damage typically. despite the zealot designed around being the melee class it has less sustain and capability of dealing with melee centric enemies like a rager when compared to the ogryn that has a knife with a stun button. the item shop is absolute garbage. crafting is worse than vermintide too.
I played it and had fun... For about 10 hours. Once you've levelled a character there's fricking nothing else to do with it. Same handful of samey missions in the same maps. Same handful of guns. You end up with a ton of crafting mats because you've got nothing to upgrade with them because the loot system is so fricking bonk that you almost never get a useful drop and never find a good weapon in either shop. It's basically a demo content wise. Needed another year in the oven for them to actually fill it out to be worthy of full release.
I'll reinstall it in a year or two when it's actually worth playing.
The fundamentals of the game are great. So is the soundtrack.
>predatory FOMO skins in a game your already paid money for (people would give less shits if it was F2P) >conveniently make the cash shop work fine and dandy, but don't even have all of the game's features implemented (fricking crafting, etc.) >FOMO missions, can't even pick what map you want to play or the difficulty >FOMO gear, you can't buy what you want, adding to the whole illusion that you have a lot of weapon types (you don't, the FOMO tricks you) >unbalanced classes >talent "tree" that barely has any branching choices, barely have any builds to make >the character creation story never matters (except Cadia) >character dialogue devolves into one liners >no female ogry (for some reason) >bugs, bugs, bugs >crashes >the game feels like a cheap Gacha phone game, demanding that you constantly play it with the FOMO mechanics (further hiding the fact that the gameplay loop fricking sucks) >NO ACTUAL STORY >No Tech Priest Class
>NO ACTUAL STORY
This is weird. It's not that I wanted a story in a game like this, but I definitely expected more considering that Dan Abnett was apparently involved.
What was even a point of bringing famous wh40k author if they only planned to do the most basic "story" in the universe?
>more >Dan Abnett
The guy cant write endings, you are 10 pages away from the end of the book and still in a huge battle, you turn the page and suddenly everythings done and gone.
Im also pretty sure his story wasnt more than "yeah so, you fight chaos"
No, no. You don't understand. It's that the story is bad, it's almost non-existent. Let me retell the whole story with pretty much no omissions: > you're a prisoner sentenced for some fairly minor offense > nurgle cultists suddenly attack the ship > your cell gets busted so you decide to run > during your escape you save an Inquisitor's agent > this agent takes you as a (mostly expendable) soldier in service of the Inquisition > as you level up you meet various seemingly important characters who all say something along the lines of "you suck, but keep trying to prove yourself" > one of those important characters tells you there is a traitor on board > one of the cutscenes also shows traitor's victims with some heretical markings > last cutscene shows some random ass executed as a traitor
That's all. That's the whole story. You can't tell me FS needed an actual writer to do this.
> during your escape you save an Inquisitor's agent
I'm so fricking mad I couldn't leave that c**t to die, given how they act no reasonable actor would've saved them
You don't need a coherent story as much as you need context. "Bad men exist here and we want them not to" isn't very engaging. GW has struggled for ages to actually characterize their antagonists and giving them a decent motivation. The Skaven were at least really fun and easy to hate. But nurgle boys are just... nothing. They were much the same in VT2, boring. I barely remember any voice lines save for a few lines from the warriors and bosses.
>What was even a point of bringing famous wh40k author if they only planned
You can rope in morons to buy you game by name dropping him.
As far as I know Abnett was only involved in designing the enemies, the moebian sixth aka scabs.
Supposedly there was more story stuff which got canned in the soft reboot during development, same with the crafting, the cutscenes when ranking up are apparently remnants of the former assets.
>What was even a point of bringing famous wh40k author if they only planned to do the most basic "story" in the universe?
Well prior to fan backlash they didn't have custom characters, there was four SPECIFIC characters one for each class the same as Vermintide.
But fans b***hed because they wanted custom characters, or rather DIDN'T want the characters to be Black folk and ugly women.
I suspect this caused almost all of Dan's writing to be fricking cut and sent for reworking to be able to feature faceless, featureless anybodies that could be humans, psykers or Ogryn despite the extreme implausibility of such an event
Imagine making a shit game and then slowly fixing it over time, learning dozens of lessons and getting a game to a place that people start to really enjoy it, then releasing a sequel that has an opportunity to take all the lessons you learned and start with a new foundation for something incredible... Only to make all the same mistakes as last time and release something in a worse state than the previous entry, and arguably worse than the previous entries launch.

The incentive to play should be that the game is fun, which within the missions, barring crashes, I'd say it is. It's all the surrounding systems like you also mentioned that suck ass or are straight up unfinished.
Nothing, we all knew Fatshark would frick up the launch. Game will probably be decent in a year, don't buy until then. You...didn't buy it already did you anon? You are smarter than that right?
I'm not the guy you're replying to but I haven't bought the game because my PC can't handle it (the beta causes my PC to need hard rebooting several times, which hasn't happened with any game crash for a number of years)
I come into the threads to see what people are saying because this was one of the only games I was looking forward to, so to hear that it's a fricking mess is a blessing and a curse, on the one hand I haven't wasted my money on something clearly unfinished, on the other hand there's basically frick-all else games in the near future that I'm excited for, so to hear this is bad is very depressing

Really funny how old warhammer had orcs with banners with Margaret Thatcher's face. Plus they were oppressing "overworked dwarf miners". I feel like GW has become less overtly political if anything.
the one good thing the release of darktide did was make me appreciate vt2 more. Had a lot of fun playing it since then, even though I gave up on it before.
They released a perfectly polished cash shop with an unfinished game built around it.
>polished cash shop
then why can't I preview the items on my character? Even the cash shop is scuffed.
It works the only way they care: You put money in, they get money. It's perfect, far as they're concerned.
that literally applies to anything with a cash shop though. get better bait.
t. brain damaged
there are 2 bangers on the soundtrack and everything else is dull shit
? even the cash shop is unfinished. you literally cant see your own character.

Great gun play and graphics do look nice. Everything else is some of the worst examples of the worst gaming tropes today. Absolutely breasts up.

It's blatantly unfinished mess.
