They definitely sold out. I guess when chinks offer you money you can throw away your creative integrity and laugh your way to the bank? Wouldn't you do it too
>man at arms my love... my big hairy bara lover... i'm just a simple highwayman but let's be gay together in this darkest dungeon II exclusively available on the epic games store app...
What did the Red Hook devs mean by this?
>epic exclusive >roguelike because it was trending back then >gay mechanics because devs want to catter to the plebbit fanbase >there was no space for beloved classes of the first game such as the crusaderor or the houndmaster because they needed it for the new strong and independent female mary sue e-girl character
It's mainly the fact that it's a roguelike honestly, you just can't take it that seriously when you know you can always restart the run, the fear of loosing a good character is what made the first one so good.
They tried to do something new, and it's just worse. I just wonder why it's a sequel and not just a brand new IP tbh, are they so desperate they need to rely on the already established fanbase? When I think of a sequel of darkest dungeon, I imagined many things, but not a roguelike with gay ships.
oh they fricked up this ip as well
to be honest, darkest dungeon always rode hard on its aesthethics both visual and audio. The game was always a resource management game masquerading as something rpg-related. The heroes are not "characters" in DD, they are expendable resources. After you start playing the game optimally it becomes an uninspired grind.
You might find the answers you seek if you bothered to read the posts in this thread.

I was just asking your opinion about DD2, because you just pointed out the issues you had with the first one, instead of discussing the topic of this thread.
I'm not seeking opinions to stick to, I just want to discuss the topics that interest me.

I merely expressed mild disappointment after reading the posts in the thread and then proceeded to answer the question in OP, the topic of this thread if you will. As the problems, or "What went wrong?" can be traced to problems with the original game, or at least extrapolated from the decisions and solution applications done by the same devs in their previous published title. In this case the main issue problems are speculated to arise from the fact that the original game's gameplay loop and concept was in fact not as good as many people have perceived it to be as it was carried to a great degree by the game's aesthethics, which were admittedly excellent.

tl;dr non-sarcastic answer: I don't think Red Hook is a very good *GAME* developer. They pretty much stumbled their way to how DD1 plays (see interviews) and honestly it wasn't that good as a gameplay loop. Very grindy and even with optimal play the RNG could frick you over, resulting in more tedious grinding.

People are getting tired of wokeshit and people are ESPECIALLY getting tired of the fake indignation and shyster misdirection related to that same fatigue. IT'S NOT WOKESHIT TO ADD homosexualRY AND REMOVE CRUSADER IT'S JUST A COINCIDENCE YOU'RE READING TOO MUCH INTO IT UMMMM ARE YOU CALLING IT WOKESHIT JUST BECAUSE QUEER PEOPLE AND POCS UMMMM EXIST UMMMM CONSPIRACY THEORY CONSPIRACY THEORY. Bullshit. Fricking bullshit. That fake attitude is almost as bad as the woke shit itself.
I mean, I wouldn't put it into words like that but I largely agree with you here. Woke is a cult. Woke is a cult that punishes and expels its members or neutrals that point out contradictions and inconsistencies in their dogma and they attack them with extreme vitriol and intellectual dishonesty. You can only be a good follower if you accept what the mainline cult preaches unquestioningly. And the contradictions and inconsistencies are not a bug, they're a feature: it's meant to break you in a way that you begin to accept things you know that are wrong.
Why have i literally never met anyone in any kind of authority in my life who was part of this "woke cult", shouldnt i have noticed them by now? Or are we just calling every social libertarian woke now when they agree to represent their beliefs in their works?
>Why have i literally never met anyone in any kind of authority in my life who was part of this "woke cult"
Maybe because you are not in the education system anymore.
In any case I agree in that they are rarer IRL, but maybe that's just because they are a loud minority/shill psyop. Also, yeah, i'm sure you've never used twitter.

Yes i am. But no, i dont use social media. Shits not real. I dont think its a psyop, i think its profitable for msm and politicians to curate an image of whacko extremists on both "sides" to justify authoritarian measures in protection of their power base.

That's actually a very reasonable guess, NGL
they took a risk that the caravan driving mechanic would be fun.
it wasn't. it wasn't at all.
then they doubled down on the caravan mechanic instead of scrapping it. they must have invested too much emotionally into having that driving mechanic because no matter how much they polish the gameplay for it everyone still does not like it. at all
most probably they add him on the steam release for more exposure and less backlash but there no real answer, the whole woke shit its just an excuse to complain
They did get rid of hit chance to appeal to casual audiences though, and I don't want to know the real reason of why they added that new character (which looks out of place in the game)
I don't fricking remember anon, and to be honest, it was not memorable enough to feel bad about it.
There was only 1 new character, so if you don't know who i'm refering to, you are moron
I remember playing Darkest Dungeon.
I minmaxed too hard.
I figured out that the best way to play is as follows: >1st rank: Hellion (can DPS all 4 ranks) >2nd rank: Houndmaster (can use protect on the hellion to dodgetank) >3rd rank: Jester (can spam stress heals to reduce entire party's stress to 0) >4th rank: Vestal (can spam heals to heal the entire party to 100%)
The basic strategy would be to kill all but 2 ranks worth of enemies (either 1 big enemy or 2 small ones) and then draw out the fight until everyone is full hp with 0 stress. Even the longest highest risk missions would end with 0 stress full health without ever camping.
Yes but they are not homosexuals, they have a cute femboy enemy so I forgive them.
I still don't like the mod since that stupid "first turn preparation" mechanic, I get what it tries to do, to force the player into playing a certain way, but I just don't like that, the fun of DD for me personally is to develop my own strategies freely.
Really? I do find that it makes battles slower, but I like the mechanic a lot. It means I can get off marks and debuffs and buffs without having to interfere with the actual battle flow.
But if that's not a fun mechanic, then, yeah, its not going to be a very fun mod.
>I do find that it makes battles slower
Yep, that's kinda what I don't like, what if I specifically want a build that specialises in killing enemies in the first turn? It's a kind of arbitrary restriction that just ruins the fun for me. >It means I can get off marks and debuffs and buffs without having to interfere with the actual battle flow.
But maybe that was an intended feature? The fact that some abilities may not be direct damage but may as well be worth it in the long term of the battle, so you needed to know when to use them and when to attack?
Otherwise, yeah, the mod is pretty cool, while the new narrator is not even a shadow of the original one (of course), I still appreciate the effort.
The enemies past the Apprentice zone are much, much harder in the mod, so being able to not waste a turn marking something is essential. Expiate is also usually a pretty weak move, but getting to use it for free in a turn is fine.
The thing is, the mod does something different, which is nice. Pitch black dungeon, for example, just feels like Darkest Dungeon but "harder". Its not a new experience.
There's a lot more focus on party composition and combos in Black Reliquary, and some classes that could have been weaker outside of boss fights (I've beaten Darkest Dungeon many times and I never used mark on anything except for boss fights or unclean giants), which meant for 90% of the fights in a mission, Mark was useless to me.

>the mod does something different, which is nice
I will get you that, yes, it truly feels like there's a conversation here between the fanbase and the game in regards to mechanics.
For example, something i also forgot to mention is the fact that they completely revamped the religion and disease systems, but they don't feel like overhauls, they actually feel like complete features that should have been like that in the original game in the first place, they are so much better. I might not like some of the changes, but at least, yes, it's evolving in a good way, kind of following the path I wish the devs took with the sequel.
>removing the crusader
Stupidest decision ever.
Crusader is the flagship class of DD1. The first two characters you get are always Reynauld and Dismas. A crusader and a highwayman. You even get an achievement for delivering them both all the way to the final boss.
Lost its indie soul and became a try-hard mainstream trash. The game's flow is very bad. That 3D wagon gimmick is moronic. Not RPG.
homosexual shit and removing Crusader to OWN THE CHUDS
Slay the spire was better and is on gamepass
They made it an Epic Store exclusive so nobody acknowledges it exists
They definitely sold out. I guess when chinks offer you money you can throw away your creative integrity and laugh your way to the bank? Wouldn't you do it too
At least if it were just chinks the game wouldn't be so fricking gay and Crusader and Vestal would still be in.
Epic Store sellout, frick chinks, kill them all.
First one was just RNG Gacha machine with endless grind but graphical design and aesthetics carried it hard
2nd one is just all around worse
Well, first of all the new art style is generic trash and ugly as frick.

They're being stubborn b***hes about everything. Same way they refuse to bring back Crusader.
I don't like anime reaction images, but I'd still rather ridicule homosexual zeroposters like you who contribute nothing to the thread
Did they really get rid of Crusader and other things because of woke shit and does anyone have some sauce to it?
most probably they add him on the steam release for more exposure and less backlash but there no real answer, the whole woke shit its just an excuse to complain

Great first game that the second game could never hope to compare to, that said it's still a fun game.
How the frick is a mod for DD1 better than DD2? Man. The Black Reliquary is a fricking ride.
Maybe it's true and the DD devs were just lucky at making such a good game.

Occultist > Vestal
True, and:
>Occultist front line > Occultist back line
Stuns + bleed + debuff/mark + enemy movement + healing
Wait, they removed the Christianity inspired classes?
It's ok because they replaced them with a faminist protag.
i tried this once... Stupid op but very hard because the lack of healers;
Anyone playing the Black Reliquary mod for Darkest Dungeon 1?
Its great
You get to delve into the homes of black people and kill them for loot, also they're all gay so you're slaughtering gay black people
Yes but they are not homosexuals, they have a cute femboy enemy so I forgive them.

Is it true that the plague doctor was secretly a ridiculously stacked woman under those robes?
A woman, yes. For some reason she inspired a lot of porn which draws her with huge honkers but the game itself does not suggest it.

He's a christian fanatic, they can't have such bigots in a modern game. Grow up.
I wasn't aware there was a second one, thought you all were shitting on the first
well I'll shit on it myself, it was never good to begin with
>EGS
>3D so mods will be difficult to make or won't exist at all
>Some of the new mechanics are shit
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
