As in the classic games, they set it up with the remakes that they were taking the game in a different direction, that was the impression. They made the Crash game they wanted, which is why that rushed Rumble game feels so disingenuous. Not a bad game, but it didn't feel like the fourth installment of that franchise. Might be because they acted like the other games never happened for the sake of simplicity. Also the masks gameplay is clunky.
literally the best in the series because of its diversity of levels aswell as length, no vehicle levels like 3 and more harder content than 2. Sure I disliked the lesbian bandicoot but that doesn't stop the levels from being ultra adrenaline inducing fun
crate placement is part of level design, if I have to constantly ruin the flow of my playing through the level to ensure I didn't miss a cheeky placed box outside of camera view then it's terrible design.
You talk as if that wasn't the case with some levels in Crash 2 and Crash 3, hell even Crash 1 had some out of view boxes if im not wrong, perhaps not as many as Crash 4 but ND always liked to have at least a couple of levels with some frickery in
Crash 3 for me is equally bad in this aspect, there are some levels that you have to finish at least 3 times, one for the crystal and with luck a gem box, another for the extra gem and then the time relic which is mandatory to get the secret ending
>hell even Crash 1 had some out of view boxes if im not wrong
the one in jaws of darkness was absolutely brutal
all the others were hidden in cortex rounds or underneath the logs in the water levels
Crash 3 is the worst
boring level progression (a fricking spaceship lift) and I hate those fricking race at night stages with tons of pitfall where 1 little mistake = impossible to clear anymore.
The power switching would always throw me off, and I grew to hate the Gravity mask because I'd mistime the ability and succumb to momentum. I did eventually git gud at it. I only have 2 purple times in the whole game and that stage is one of them.

They probably assumed it was simply the IP that did the legwork. Sounds moronic but it adds up when you consider how many companies are just coasting on decade old IPs and the influx of remakes/remasters.

We live in a world where journalist modes are added to longstanding franchises like God of War. Soon enough we'll just get interactive movies, where you tilt the control to make another cutscene happen. Nobody wants a videogame to be a videogame, they want everything on auto-pilot. This is the only reason TV and movies thrive, you aren't invested in anyway shape or form on a personal level. You can watch a bald man kill 100 people in a meth empire or watch naked people have sex with their sisters and cousins while dragons and knights fight each other, you can watch a man with a US flag costume suplex a purple alien, or you can watch 3D animated movies with bean mouths and gay couples. Humanity will reach a point where even breathing will be a chore.

God of War reboot is journalist mode. nu Kratos is literally a self-insert for aging, overweight, californian devs with soi beards.
"do better"
It was always one of the most enjoyable parts of the trilogy, I feel like with some small changes Crash 4 would be way better > Remove Wumpa gems, N Sane Perfect relics and Gems tied to N verted levels > Timeline levels with alternative characters don't repeat portions of regular Crash/Coco levels, instead they are full levels with the secondary characters > Change the placement of a lot of those way too hidden crates, previous crash games rarely relied on crates being too hidden not to mention that levels are already way longer than usual so it makes going for all crates even worse > Sprint from Crash 3 instead of the shitty triple spin
There, the game now is much better, the current games feels bloated
It was bound to happen with the homogenization of the industry. Sure, decent artists still exist but they just get overwhelmed by all the corporate bullshit.
Not only has the visual design gone to shit, characters' characters are a disaster, too. That's not necessarily on TfB (Cortex has been flamboyant and outright unbearable since Twinsanity) but more often than not it is (nuTawna, N. Gin, Tropy etc.).

There’s too much padding if you’re going for 106%. What’s the point of having to go through the same level normally and then N. Verted? Or going through the same level as Crash from the start, or as another character only to play the second half as Crash all over again, normally and N. Verted.
Not to mention the obnoxious box placement in certain levels.
I appreciate a good challenge like everyone else, but when you combine the unforgiving platforming with all the backtracking and the most moronic box placement in the series, it just becomes frustrating and not fun at all.

Metrosexual cortex in twinsanity was worse. No game has lived up to the atmosphere of 1 but twinsanity tried its best to destroy the tone for a nickelodeon slapstick romp.

All the goodwill this series had after CTR: Refuelled was completely wasted. Same with Spyro. Reignited came out in 2018, the timeframe to release a new game is long gone. What a waste.
i'm replaying it right now and it's not actually all that bad
the only thing i hate is tawna's personality (and design)
about the hidden boxes, if pay attention well enough you can spot them all without a guide, i only used a guide for the first desert level
I am sure this thread will be full of fresh, new, never seen before arguments.
I hate this game but c'mon, you could have a nice comfy psx aesthetics thread and instead you choose to doompost.
Pretty much everything. Designs are aids. Levels are too long and boring. moronic amount of hidden boxes. Characters are annoying as frick, story sucks ass. Writing is cringe, Inverted gems. Cringe zoomer references. TfB are just dogshit devs. Not to mention rumble and aidsbat
People only pretended to like the first 3 games because they were Sony's competitor for Mario. As soon as Sony told them that Platformers were kiddy and open world games followed by walking simulators were real gaming the series was forgotten.
Crash bandicoot is completely riddled with aids and always has been
I really hope it kills the franchise for real this time
I fricking hate that bandicoot homosexual and his le zany persona
Crash bandicoot is completely riddled with aids and always has been
I really hope it kills the franchise for real this time
I fricking hate that bandicoot homosexual and his le zany persona
As an outside observer I see three major problems.
1. Massive artstyle shift even though the point of N.Sane and CTR was to re-establish the world and look of the characters. Whether you enjoyed it or not, this really hurt their brand identity.
2. The story comes off in large part like a Crash 3 retread and it's full of fan service, we already saw oxide and the professors and the time travel guy you needed this to have its own thing worthy of being called 4.
3. Gameplay: It asks too much of the player to complete it while beating it is a complete joke. Too much repeat level usage and replaying large chunks of levels because you played for 2 min with an alt character. Just reaching the end is unfulfilling and completing the game is torture.
Bonus: Said alt characters are shit to use and not really worth it. Nu-Tawna should have been Nina, they do the same shit. Maybe Coco should have been a distinct character as well? Maybe keep the alt playable characters as unlockables you can just use in any level? This idea alone may have given Crash 4 an identity.
Nothing really, it's great. It retains the spirit of the original 3 but with playable Coco. It also retconned all the post ND shit knowing full well no one liked that shit for years, these devs are based as frick
They changed too much, same mistake as Radical. Most things with it were serviceable, and some did like a few changes made, but it wasn't "Crash."
Elaborate.
As in the classic games, they set it up with the remakes that they were taking the game in a different direction, that was the impression. Why is crash so horrendously hunchback'd, what'd they do to my boy
I don't know but I never found it distracting.
it's a game for 40 year old man children who want to live in the past again for a second but as if it were brand new
but it's a shit version of it
i'm replaying it right now and it's not actually all that bad
the only thing i hate is tawna's personality (and design)
about the hidden boxes, if pay attention well enough you can spot them all without a guide, i only used a guide for the first desert level
No amount of paying attention is gonna give me x-ray vision to see boxes that are literally not visible on screen
Nothing like being such a failure that you have to pander to Kotaku of all websites.
The devs unironically wish they were Sonic.
I am sure this thread will be full of fresh, new, never seen before arguments.
I hate this game but c'mon, you could have a nice comfy psx aesthetics thread and instead you choose to doompost.
It didn't have Tawna in it.
Complete collapse.
I often think how bad this game was, I don't think there is another game where you can take so many lessons about what not to do
Somehow worse than Wrath of Cortex.
I'd gladly play WoC over this trash.
Everyone knows what went wrong.
I thought it was fun but didn't finish
>Coco spins
>wumpa fruits fly out of her clothes
Pretty much everything. Designs are aids. Levels are too long and boring. moronic amount of hidden boxes. Characters are annoying as frick, story sucks ass. Writing is cringe, Inverted gems. Cringe zoomer references. TfB are just dogshit devs. Not to mention rumble and aidsbat
I liked it but FRICK going for 100%
People only pretended to like the first 3 games because they were Sony's competitor for Mario. As soon as Sony told them that Platformers were kiddy and open world games followed by walking simulators were real gaming the series was forgotten.
moron
Schizo meltdown?
nah I hate this homosexual character and I would be happy if I never see him again
Kys Sonicgay
Sonic is shit too, but crash is like they took everything people dont like about adventure sonic and distilled it into a character
Crash came out before Adventure Sonic tho.
Kys ninten year old
He's a tendie anon
You have to be 18+ to post here
Truth
moron
Crash bandicoot is completely riddled with aids and always has been
I really hope it kills the franchise for real this time
I fricking hate that bandicoot homosexual and his le zany persona
In searching around for Crash stuff and CTR shit I've found there are SEVERAL youtube channels dedicated to nothing but Crash Bandicoot.
I find it odd.
The worst thing about this is that it probably killed Spyro 4.
N.Tropy selfcest.
I don't get making more redesigns i thought the series got enough of that
>R. Lee Ermey voices the Water Elemental
Never expected that.
Crash fans really want those dark ages back, huh?
Rumble and 4 are a dark age
B8
CTR and the remakes where great. The reworked characters looked fantastic and handled well. I don't know how they screwed the pooch so hard here.
Also Coco's cocos
