What went wrong? Especially compared to Skyrim, which is just as shit yet people liked it.

Skyrim at least had a fraction of a fraction of the soul of Morrowind, even as it spit over everything that game established, Starflop has nothing

The writing and the atmosphere was better in skyrim. Also it had enemy variety and not schedules. Not to mention multiple races and abilities.

The exploration sucks and the dungeons are all the same.

      Same as Skyrim.

pretty much the load screens. The bad writing and ugly npcs was just the cherry on top. If it had the flight / world dynamics of no man's sky or star citizen it'd be heralded as the game of the century

Skyrim was a mediocre game with pretty good art direction, atmosphere and great music. An interesting world for most to get lost in. Skyrim also still had twenty years worth of work from people like Ted Peterson to hang on to. It ruined magic though and the companions are the worst faction in any elder scrolls game.
Starfield is just a mess of different ideas that don't fit in with each other. There is no interesting world to explore and get lost in. Just a series of loading screens to boring template dungeons with the same enemies. Ultimately utter boring trash.

Yes, I guess its the load screens. They break the illusion of space travel.
At least in Skyrim you can actually walk around.

Not like Skyrim at all. Skyrim has overtly simplistic dialogue but it's never too cringey.
Also you can be a real evil son of a b***h in Skyrim and even pick the more racist options in Windhelm.

load screens mean you aren't an explorer, you're playing levels in a video game and suddenly walking becomes tedious because you know everywhere else you can just teleport.

Skyrim had loading screens all over, and everyone just teleported all over the place with fast travel too. Don't say you didn't, the quests were designed to send you back and forth and enrage you if you tried to avoid fast travel.

Imagine teleporting to do quests lmao the second you're free from that cave with the bear you literally get lost from dungeon to dungeon
The only time fast travelling barely matters is during faction quests and even then, you get sent to locations where you usually wouldn't have gone otherwise, unless you fricking EXPLORED
I hate starfield. It's literally all the bad things from a bethesda game without any of the good things from a bethesda game. They retained and sterilized all the jank yet in the process remove all the soul and wonder

          Yes, but the illusion matters.

skyrim didnt run like shit and have a loading screen every 30 seconds
also skyrim had atmosphere and a really good OST
any 6/10 game can be made 8/10 with a good soundtrack.

The usual Bethesda jank except even modders are throwing in the towel this time.

Several problems. The biggest one is a design flaw that keeps interrupting the exploration, possibly the only thing Bethesda games still had

Bethesda has never made a good game, i think the only thing this game really fricks up that other bethesda titles don't is the excessive loading screens

the loading screens are really that big of an issue with how constant they are and how many quests are a big game of telephone. i didn't think it would be that big a deal before i played but it really is annoying and totally destroys the flow of the game and hardly anything feels cohesive and all the main gameplay pillars are basically siloed off from each other and don't cohere well. its just not well designed generally
