I don't know in all honesty. If you don't care about the PS exclusives like most people, it's the better console choice.

      Anonymous

This and even PS exclusive is failing. I have loved PS as a console up until the 5 but the only thing the 5 really offered that I wanted to get it for was R&C Rift Apart. I got a PS4 late since I've moved onto PC, and I wanted the Shadow of the Colossus remake and Gravity Rush, but the PS5 has nothing exclusive to it that i would want. Bloodbourne and Demon Souls maybe but the prior is a PS4 game and the later is meh. I'm not a Soulsbro and just want to try them. Rift Apart came to PC so I got a PS5 controller and it's just better.

I'll get one used or if they make a proper slim but as it is, it's kind of a mediocre system.

Xbox is just a game pass machine.

I didn't realize it had a disc drive. What's the point of that, when there are no games for the console, and Game Pass is pushed so hard?

      >Don Mattrick being a moron poisoned the well since Xbone and it keeps going.
      >Phil keeps buying up companies but somehow has no quality control over them and prefers to stay hands off when since Crackdown 3 he should have been cracking down on them in general.
Forza team is the only one that can be trusted.
      >Takes forever to get any game released and when they do it either has no marketing (Hi-Fi Rush), it has no target audience (Redfall), or it's beyond terrible (Launch Sea of Thieves and launch Halo Infinite).
      >In general almost everything they release has been utter garbage with a few good games like Gears Tactics and Hi-Fi Rush, both of which are niche.
      >Has no actual exclusives because everything is on PC getting rid of any real reason to buy their systems which is why Sony doing the same thing is equally as idiotic.
      >Series games have to be downloaded from Microsoft's servers if it's cross-gen so unless the actual physical copy you get is only playable on a Series system like Gotham Knights you don't own your physical copies.
      >Constantly doubling down on Game Pass when they have to understand it's unsustainable in the long run and by their own admission it hurts game sales.
      >Stopped their BC program when the Series systems came out despite it being their one saving grace because FPS Boost and "new" releases of older games really helped keep stuff alive, especially now that the 360 store is being killed off.
      >Japanese devs steer clear of it unless Microsoft specifically courts them like Sega and Squeenix because games don't sell as shown by Capcom's leaks.
      >Actively makes their UI worse with every new upgrade.
The update it got something like a year or two ago is objectively worse than the previous one because you are forced to see adds and you can only have your top two groups pinned to the home page anymore.

Physical copies still exist and you have all of the Xbone BC to work with. I exclusively buy them and they're usually cheaper.

This right here for me. Xbox was the first system I bought with my own money and I absolutely loved my 360, but that's when I jumped ship. That gen I got a PS4 and built a pc, but now I just play on pc and whatever nintendo console. Oh and no exclusives I want since everything comes out on pc anyway.

Zero console exclusives. Game Pass is also an unsustainable business model that relies on them selling an infinite number of consoles. Game Pass really isn't a good deal either unless you're blowing throw multiple shitty games a month. Most people don't play that many games and get a better deal just buying the games they do want.

All of it, management is lacking, they keep letting the studios make mediocre shit and since now those studios are backed by a trillion dollars company none of them feel like they need to put some effort into their games, I think that unlike the others the hardware team did their job well but even if Series S as a concept is a good idea and the execution was perfectly fine, none of them took into account the nu hack devs that are plaguing studios crying about having to optimize their games so having 2 skus backfired.

    >almost no compelling exclusives almost three years in while the PS5 at-least has two or three maybe
    >high-profile letdowns and disappointments like Halo Infinite, Redfall, and Starfield that fail to leverage the console's powerful hardware by being capped to 30FPS, handicapped even further by mandated Xbox Series S compatibility which is actually less-powerful than the Xbox One X in some ways
    >inconsistent brand identity with so many different supported SKUs on the market including the last-gen Xbox One, often confusing average consumers
    >digital-only plans are going to be disastrous in the short-term, not only will it discourage consumer interest for physical media holdouts but it'll also discourage retail stores from carrying consoles in favor of more shelf space dedicated to Nintendo and PlayStation
    >the vast majority of Xbox 360 owners switched to PS4 at the onset of 8th gen due to the E3 2013 used games DRM, always-online DRM, and Kinect homosexualry, while the rest switched to PC and never looked back
    >once-big classic franchises like Halo, Fable, Banjo, Gears of War, and even Forza (since it's on PC) aren't the killer-apps they used to be
    >high-profile buyouts like Bethesda and Activision have only backfired thus far with damning leaks and disappointments like Starfield and CoD MWIII (which won't even be an exclusive and wasn't on Game Pass either so what the frick was the point?)

No one's gonna be asking for an Xbox for Christmas over a PS5 or even a Switch or Steam Deck. Vidya consumers are fricking stupid but even they know where to draw the line.

Easily emulatable, come back in a year and you might have a point.

People don't care about exclusives except a few select gays on Ganker and maybe reddit, most people won't purchase a console for a couple of games a year when they already have a backlog.

            >timed exclusivity is fricking meaningless unless you're a braindead consoomer.

Nintendo is in a niche of its own. Sony though ? lol. Limited time exclusives dont count. MS and Xbox knows they cant compete in console sales, they dont give a frick. They could literally give them out for free. Their aim is gamepass and selling as much games as possible.

            >Limited time exclusives dont count.

Timed exclusivity counts and it's insane you're discounting it. To (You) it doesn't matter, to the general public it absolutely does matter. You think someone who wants to play Spider-Man 2 is gonna wait until the PC release in two or three years rather than playing it on a PS5 right now and talking about it with their friends right now? Get real. If Starfield was only on Xbox and not on PC with a timed exclusivity of three years you better believe their marketing + hype + Bethesda would have moved Series systems regardless of how good of a game it is or isn't. As long as they do the marketing right, it's something people are hyped for to begin with, and you can't get it anywhere else people are going to cave because of it being popular and not wanting to be left out.

Yes. It's called not being a manchild with ADD or letting FOMO take over. Most people are capable of such self control

Also if Starfield was a console exclusive Microsoft wouldn't have had a strong case in the FTC trial. Again, the only people who care about exclusives are actual autists, there is nothing good about restricting content to an arbitrary platform and if you think it's a valid tactic you're part of that same cancer.

                >Most people are capable of such self control
No, they aren't. That's why people buy games on release day and pre-order them.

                Anonymous

That's due to hype, not FOMO. Who is going to feel that they've missed out on a game which hasn't even released? Evident by the strong sales of Spidey/GoW/Horizon on Steam, people are willing to wait if it means they don't have to buy a $500 paper weight for one or two games. Anywho, I'm on the verge of puking knowing I'm conversing with a tripgay so you can have an evening.

                Moose

It's due to both, how can you not understand this? FOMO influences the hype cycle because they don't want to miss out on playing the game to talk about it with their friends. If you buy Spider-Man on PC no one but PC players are gonna care to talk to you about it because they played it like five years prior.

PC? There is no such thing as an xbox exclusive so why bother
Playstation? It already has exclusives over xbox and it's only a tiny bit weaker than the series X. Xbox might have SOME worthwhile games that playstation doesn't have (most recent example is hi fi rush) but that's not enough for normies to straight out drop fricking god of war and spiderman and start playing on an xbox
Gamepass is good if you're either poor or have been on a coma for the past 10 years and need to catch up but that's about it. And BC is nice too but no normie is gonna lose their minds over being able to pop an old ass split/second 360 copy or something like that; BC is only fuel for console wars

      >oh there's no universe in which we win against playstation no matter how good our games are that's why we don't even bother boo hoo please let us buy all these companies we cannot compete!

Basically. After the horrible xbox one generation, Phil had literally only two options. Light a small fire and try and rekindle the xbox fanbase or go all in on gamepass and hope it's lucrative enough to entice people into the ecosystem. Because of activision's frickup, their stock price plummeted and led to Phil immediately betting it all on option 2 after buying them. Now he's stuck with shitty xbox console sales AND a hard limit on gamepass subs because nobody has a fricking xbox and PC gamepass subs aren't good enough. Now their best bet is xcloud (cloud gaming) and try and hope xbox sales somehow magically improve along with gamepass subs (not happening kek). There's just not enough good games on the thing to entice people.
