Did you play GBA or remake.
ReCoM is genuinely just completely terrible. GBA isn't exactly a good game but its far less awful. Anyway expect more of this going forward, BBS is rough too and DDD is terrible.
I played the remake. Im starting to regret my decision when i bought "the story so far" there is something about the boss fights that i really think isent fun or challenging. I hate that a lot of them have attacks that can literally just ista kill you if they feel like it in recom and the first game. The game i am most interested in playing is Kingdom Hearts 2.
Its a 2D GBA game at heart(or 2.5D), the remaster only magnifies the issues and made the battles slightly worse by making it full 3D. The game's battle system wasn't designed around big open maps. All they did was take KH2's engine and slapped cards on it.

You already made through the main storyline. You're gonna drop it on the extra storyline that's like 1/3 as long and doesn't require any dicking around with deck-building or card drops?
Yeah the card break mechanic just frustrates me to no end at this point. The last drop was when i lost all my cards against the boss in travers town, and literally had no way of fighting it. I was thinking about maybe changing the difficulty so i can just get the story. But then i thought i rather watch it on youtube.
I still wonder what they were thinking making a battle system where you can literally softlock every fight.
Yeah and the combat is fun, flashy and spectacular ... but why did they lock it behind the card system in this game

Riku's story is basically getting over his guilt of being evil, then he meets up with Mickey

Just watch the cutscenes as this point its pretty direct if you have already finished sora's story and pay attention to what the characters are saying.
Plus you would miss out on the kino moments where Riku meets Namine and when he leaves.
It's best you just forget about CoM and move on to 2. Nothing in it is of any real consequence in terms of story and Sora forgot all of it anyway.

I did. I played it, and i really didn't like it.
watch cutscenes for Riku's CoM stuff, its more plot relevant than Sora's.
Play KH2FM then watch Days (or other way around, whichever you prefer, Days happens first chronlogically but it kills some of the mystery in 2)
BBS play it, but if you hate the combat just watch a plot recap.
Re:Coded: emulate the DS game and play it for fun or just forget it exists, everything in the plot is filler and completely irrelevant but the gameplay is surprisingly fun.
DDD: hahaha. this is the point the story truly goes off the deep end and the game itself isnt particularly fun to play but if you're still invested when you reach this i guess you might as well play it.
KH3: play it but get ready for 80% of the game to be filler, at least the combat is fun in the dlc fights if you turn off all the gay shit like attractions and d links.
If you skip Riku's story in CoM then you'll be a little confused at first in KH2 as to who DiZ is and why he's hanging out with Riku and Namine.

original CoM really isn't anywhere near as bad as some people say, but im not going to call it a good game.
ReCoM is legitimate dogshit and anyone who defends it is crazy. I hated it the first time i played it, and i gave it a second chance in 1.5 + 2.5 and my final feelings on it are frick this shit im never ever touching it again.
Even though CoM is boring shit, it was the conceptual basis for TWEWY/NEOTWEWY so it's not completely worthless. Days, BBS, DDD and 3 are the ones that have no reason to exist.

NTA but re:coded is actually a fun game. why they turned it into cutscenes for 2.5 is beyond me since the story is terrible and the gameplay is the only reason to touch it.
I don't know if it's true but I've heard they originally planned to make Days and Re:coded playable, but remaking DS games for PS3 would be more time and effort than they were willing to spend so they dropped the idea and just remastered the cutscenes. Sucks since Days could've used an HD remaster the most, the original controls on DS are ass.
Days needs a complete remake, a remaster wouldn't fix anything. the game itself is pretty terrible to play. the missions get repetitive insanely fast.
True, but I'm not sure how much you could fix that considering the plot is basically a wagie's life slowly falling apart around him but he still has to keep clocking in everyday.
I will always maintain that Re:coded is one of the best action games ever made, and is made even more impressive by the fact that it was on the DS.
Just play KH2FM and stop the rest isn’t worth it.
GBA Chain of Memories remains my favorite Kingdom Hearts game.

NTA, but unlike Re:CoM its actually fun to play. the story is still terrible and its gimmicky at times, especially trying to enter the rooms with the wrong cards and having to rng grind. but the card based combat was very clearly designed for 2D and actually functions in 2D instead of just being an unfun mess in 3D that serves no purpose but to infuriate the player. All of the bosses are clearly designed to only function in a 2D space as well
Just really enjoyed the combat system and how it was designed for 2D. The system for opening doors is annoying but the battle system and its options outweigh it for me. Also liked Riku's character development for his story. I'm a sucker for well done sprites too.

I've played through the entire franchise.
I could stomach the worst of Days tailing missions and the absolute kino that was Recodeds combat.
I stuck through Chi/UX until it's closure from global launch and finished MoM.
ReCoM's probably the 2nd worst thing gameplay wise to come out of this franchise.
The GBA version is fine tbh.
Is the franchise worth playing?
Gameplay's alright in most of the games. Although for the games that didn't start on console, or were adapted to console you can very much feel the limitations of the original hardware they were on.
I'd say even Days on the DS is worth playing even if a lot of the missions are filler, compared to the cinematic collection, but no one would blame you if you skipped it and Recom and just looked at the cutscenes.
Then there's Chi/UX where the only way to experience it now is cutscenes.
If you can stomach the disney cheese and at times extreme lengths the games go to justify their plots, it's a franchise you'll get some good millage out of.

ITT people got filtered by one of the best and easiest KH games that lets you get absurdly powerful and is absolutely kino.
I remember playing this game for the first time on proud mode completely blind, pissed on bourbon in my dorm room one morning. Passed out, roommates woke up and found me, woke me up and watched me keep going. One of the best and most memorable experiences of my life.
Even my roommates ended up beating it as well. Even the moronic one who never quite figured the mechanics out properly. I pity you if you can't beat it.
