I may have a bad memory, but didn't Aerith die like late/mid way into the game? How the frick do we go from Midgar only on Disc 1, to Aerith's death without skipping over 20+ hours of story?
My brain may be mis-remembering the sequence of events but Aerith dies on a whole other continent, discs aside we are starting at Kalm and zooming up to Aerith dying? I could swear she was with the party at the Temple of the Ancients. And she dies at that forest.
Rebirth starts at Kalm, ends at the forgotten capital and features everything in between. In terms of the original that cover's about 2/3 of the story. Discs 2 & 3 are tiny in comparison to Disc 1.

To be fair that's assuming you know exactly where to go and don't go too far off the beaten track. You can still talk to everyone in the towns but you wouldn't be able to frick about with shit like Great Gospel or the Gold Saucer mini games. I could see a blind run taking up to 15 hours or so to do that stretch. But even still the point of it all easily fitting within Rebirth's run time still stands.

It could stretch out pretty long from a gameplay standpoint but the actual story content is quite short.
This is what I expect. Cloud pushes her out of the way, gets Aerith'd, game ends. Next game we'll have Zach as Aerith realizes she has to die for the proper events to unfold which mumbo jumbo fantasy explanation, Cloud is back.
Cloud dies in the end of Rebirth. He will be revived in part 3 because the alt timeline has spare Cloud in coma. They will inject dead Cloud's memories into him

They're definitely going for the Life is Strange plot where Aerith/Chloe is not "supposed" to live but you get the choice at the end to carry over for part 3.
God I’m going to get so much shit for this, but here we go.
1) While who you go on a date with is entirely optional, Aerith performing as the princess in the play is not. The date itself and the play are separate events. You need to perform to get a place to sleep, since Cait screwed with the tram. This is how you “pay” for your stay at the hotel.
2) I only saw two of the dates, but that leaked picture isn’t accurate. You get really close to kissing Tifa, but she pulls away. Aerith rests her head on Cloud’s shoulder and they lean in, but then the fireworks start and she closes her eyes and says “I told you not to fall in love with me.”
The ending does have Aerith die, but in the credits you see her floating to the bottom of the lake. There’s a close up on her face, and she opens her eyes and she’s laying in a bed, Cloud comatose near her. Zack is above her. She says “we have to save them. We have to save all of them.”
Genesis is mentioned, but that’s all you get. Cloud is very confused by it.
No Zack as playable, but you do get to see him in several cutscenes. He does start working with Avalanche in hopes to figure out how to fix Cloud and Aerith.
You get to meet Rosen, who laments on Sephiroth. You can get an optional sword from him but you need to fight this huge Baloir for it.
And say hi to Glenn, because he’s working with AVALANCHE. There’s a side quest where Cloud meets him in Gongaga, where he’s also working with Cissnei. It’s heavily hinted that there is a relationship of some sort between Cloud and Glenn, because when he sees Glenn he freaks. He also is tied in with Zack’s timeline.
Can’t, and you’re unlikely to see any reviewer pictures because SE were c**ts and on every review copy there’s a faint but visible banner through all cutscenes with a specific number that tied to your copy.
You’ll likely get picture dumps when an actual “leaked” copy is released into the wild. I give it 48 hours.
Will say that they didn’t shy away from the blood with Aerith. It’s the only blood in the game.
Are the timelines supposed to happen at the "same time"? Because Zack gets to Midgar with Cloud while the gang are invading Shinra Building and fighting the time jannies, which happened later in the original timeline.

I’m working through the side content to see if I missed things that may make Zack’s sideline story make more sense. I did a quick play for my first time through and I’m working my second right now. I completely missed an entire section for Vincent my first go through. You do get a really nice scene with Lucrecia in a flashback, begging to hold Sephiroth. She has like two lines of dialogue, but at least they weren’t “I’m so sorry.”

Whether he's legit or not, I do think he's right about the first part. The date is a 1 on 1 secret getaway in the original game, but in the play Barret, Red and Cait are there which wouldnt make much sense. Also it's the theme song of the game, not logical to put into something optional.

Your fight with Sephiroth comes after Cloud puts her in the water.
In the Sephiroth fight, Sephiroth is telling Cloud the truth about what happened in Nibelheim. Tifa is screaming it isn’t true and what I assume is Aerith’s spirit attempts to cocoon Cloud in the livestream. It doesn’t work and Cloud breaks and goes on a rampage.
Sephiroth grabs him and lifts him into the sky and disappears.

For the GS date scene there are two versions of the each date. You might’ve got the version where you don’t kiss Tifa. The kiss is confirmed by multiple credible sources already.

Who are the reliable sources? Because while you can swap costumes in the Gold Saucer, I didn’t ever get that bathing suit.
The first playthrough Aerith wore her usual dress, and in the second playthrough I didn’t change Tifa’s clothes. There is a vendor you can get clothes from when you trade certain items to him, but I only saw the one bathing suit and a sundress.
It’s always possible there are multiple different date options with the same person, but my playthrough didn’t have a kiss.

A story is not defined entirely by its individual scenes. Context and theme matter. Those scenes are now placed in an entirely different context and the original themes of loss and identity are replaced with the themes of fate and destiny. This is without even accounting for the fact that the pacing and tension of the original story elements which do remain have been utterly obliterated.

That's actually a good point but it's sensible to assume if someone gets the Aerith date in the second game, they probably got her scene in the first game
Data is transferred over, though. You can get a few summons only if there’s save info on your ps5.

But more than that, the affection mechanics in OG and Remake both favored Aerith.

If someone tried to spoil the finale of Remake in text it would have been dismissed as insane (travelling through a magic portal to a second midgar to fight kingdom hearts Destiny monster while Sephiroth summons meteor and you see visions of literal advent children clips then Zack survives his death due to time ghosts etc).

Cissnei doesn’t get much screen time. She’s left the Turks “unofficially” but she is still in contact with Tseng. Cissnei almost brings up Zack, but she gets spooked and takes off.
There’s a scene after where Cissnei calls Tseng and tries to find out what happened to Zack, but Tseng doesn’t answer her.
I only found one so far in my second playthrough. It’s about how he met Lucrecia and was assigned as her bodyguard. You do get to see Infalna and Gast as well. It’s actually really screwed up because it sounds like Lucrecia was turkey-bastered by Hojo, who had no interest in human connection.

Zack is not playable. otherwise SE would have already showcased it and marketed it. SE doesn't keep gameplay aspects a secret. They are more excited than the fans to show everything like a little kid.
I feel kinda torn on this because the fact he's such a secret can mean two things, he's not playable, or anything ANYTHING about his content is a major spoiler. Something on the level of Genesis being his party member and on the screen with him at all times.

Not a stretch at all. He doesn't have materia in the sword in REMAKE and INTERGRADE. He does in REBIRTH. It serves no purpose to put random materia in his sword for when it's just a bunch of cutscenes like head schizo claims. The only thing that's a stretch here is your butthole, son.
Have you seen remake's cgi cutscenes? specially the ones with aerith's church and the plates on midgars model, they keep changing and being incoherent with the in-game models. I think it is a good observation but i've seen the cgi departmant commit so many mistakes that it's not that reliable.

I’m more willing to say it’s on purpose than accidental. When you get to Cosmo Canyon, you learn a ton about the whispers and their purpose, as well as the impacts. I think they may be saving the whole thing for next game, but my guess is that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened and they’ve been waiting for this.

Hey, I tried my best. I always liked Aerith more, so when I played the first time I got her. Then I basically ignored Aerith and kept Tifa in my party for my second run through because I figured that would up the chance of my getting her as a date.
I am not a big shipper, so to me it isn’t a selling point of the game. Don’t know what you expect of me. It’s a 45 hour game and replaying it five times to figure out the dating mechanics isn’t worth it. I’m still trying to figure out how to clear my map.

In theory, only people who have been in direct contrast with fate at least once and thus have had to be "altered" by the whispers start seeing them, it stands to reason Hojo will be able to see them going forward, too.

Demon’s gate is a c**t and I hate it so much. That thing is actively trying to squish you. It reminded me a lot like Motorball with how fricking infuriating it was.
One of my favorite fights was actually the Dinotank thing in gongaga. You get some really funny dialogue in it if you have and Nanaki in your party.
You do get to fight the Turks at least twice. I think there’s also possibly an optional battle, but again, I’m still working through it again.
There's also tonberries. I saw it on my first playthrough and I ran like a b***h.
Summons are fun, but I couldn’t really use Kujata. There’s a bonus summon, but I didn’t get it my first go through because I was speed playing. Based on the quest, I think it may be carbuncle? It’s definitely a healing type.

What the frick is Square's problem? They had the excuse for Red XIII not being playable in Part 1 because he comes in near the end of the game, so what's the excuse now?
I kind of want to believe this guy but my problem is nothing in this “leak” forms any ground for the devs to be nervous for the response to its ending. The way it’s being presented here sounds pretty cut and dry, close to the original and really nothing too crazy happening.

In ten years, will the Remake trilogy's narrative endure nearly as much as the OG FF7? What will its story line be remembered for, other than not being FF7's? If its new storyline can really stand on its own, why does it need to pilfer every iconic scene from FF7?

That's probably because Aerith's resolution scene is the most canon scene of Remake out of the three. It's the only one that appears when the credits are rolling at the end of the game when it's showing all the scenes of the game and it's also the only scene out of the three that gets any mention by the party in the mandatory cutscene right after. Cloud tells Elmyra "She's calling out to me. I can feel it." literally right after us watching a cutscene where Aerith's calling out to him.
Both the original (with the affection system having Aerith start at 50 compared to Tifa's 30) and the Remake have Aerith as the canon first choice.

WEAPONS get explained when you get to Cosmo Canyon. They are already active. If you listen to the chatter from the townspeople from the beginning, you’ll hear that weird things have been happening regarding the lifestream. There’s an entire thing in Wutai about it.

Have to say this leaker sounds more believable than the previous ones without pics, definitely better than 'Cloud dies' shit. There were already predictions that Aerith dies and reunites with Zack or that Glenn is involved. It also makes sense that the optional dates have continued themes from Remake: Aerith talks cryptic shit and makes assumptions; Tifa moves from angsty hug to angsty kiss; Barret probably has more bro-shit. Leaker is an Aeithgay so he got good Aerith date and bad Tifa date where they don't kiss. It all fits so far. Would be better to have at least one pic though.
Look, I’m trying my very best to answer as many questions as I can. I have not fully maxed out protorelics and have completed maybe a third of the side quests. I rushed my way through my first playthrough as quickly as I could.
I’m just being as clear as I can, but there are a lot of posts and sometimes I just miss things.
Okay, gunna break down the Zack scenes I saw. As said before, if you complete quests and other side event stuff, you get more Zack scenes. I think I saw only 4-5 my first playthrough, and then I saw another on my second as I started actually doing side missions.
I’ll be as brief as possible.
On the way back to Midgar, Zack has a dream about arriving to the church and not finding Aerith. In fear, he rushes forward with Cloud.
Zack and Cloud arrive to Midgar, and Zack leaves Cloud with Kyrie. He goes to the church to find her, but before he gets there he finds them loading Aerith’s body into ambulances by the Turks.
Tseng turns the other way and Zack is able to take Aerith.
He brings her to the sector 5 slums, where she’s nursed back to health—except she won’t wake up.
Elmyra isn’t exactly happy to have Zack around, and when Marlene tells Zack that someone is trying to kill Aerith, he knows he needs to figure out what’s going on.
Zack tries to figure out a way of curing Aerith and figuring out why she won’t wake. He knows that there’s a problem with Cloud and mako poisoning, but Aerith is a mystery.
He’s been getting visions of things not being right—people in places they shouldn’t, changing structures. The only person who doesn’t think he is crazy is Biggs, who is having similar experiences.
He goes to the church to get flowers, he thinks he sees Sephiroth. It freaks him out and he tries to figure out what’s going on because he knows Sephiroth is supposed to be dead.
He brings Aerith to the church to see if maybe it helps (my assumption is that this is how Cloud dreams about Aerith) but she gets restless and screams. He panics and rushes her back home, where she wakes up.
On my second playthrough I got a scene where Zack begins to work with Avalanche’s other cell. I feel like I am missing some chunks.
She dies in one reality and wakes up in Zack's which apparently is a sort of lifestream limbo for dead souls who haven't returned / couldn't return to the planet yet.

The Turks are all aware that AVALANCHE is kicking and Rufus is not really any different than the OG, but there is something going on with him. He has a weird obsession with Hojo’s department, where in OG he just cared about making more money.
I’ve actually wondered more than once about what is going on with Rufus Shinra.
In the OG Rufus was an extreme meritocrat who only cared about shit getting done, BC added that he was also funding and feeding intel to AVALANCHE to get rid of his dad.

Rebirth starts at Kalm, ends at the forgotten capital and features everything in between. In terms of the original that cover's about 2/3 of the story. Discs 2 & 3 are tiny in comparison to Disc 1.

To be fair that's assuming you know exactly where to go and don't go too far off the beaten track. You can still talk to everyone in the towns but you wouldn't be able to frick about with shit like Great Gospel or the Gold Saucer mini games. I could see a blind run taking up to 15 hours or so to do that stretch. But even still the point of it all easily fitting within Rebirth's run time still stands.
From Kalm to Forgotten Capitol in 10 hours is doable only if you know where to go and what to do from the start and you skip everything else. So not doable for the first timers

I distintly remember this being a pain in the ass. Along with having to go underwater and finding that cave with the materia while avoiding Emerald weapon. Underwater sections give me the eebiejeebies and even moreso with FFVII having those black spots on the map because they didn't load properly on PSX. I was always scared my game would crash or something crazy would happen.
It could stretch out pretty long from a gameplay standpoint but the actual story content is quite short.

1) While who you go on a date with is entirely optional, Aerith performing as the princess in the play is not. The date itself and the play are separate events. You need to perform to get a place to sleep, since Cait screwed with the tram. This is how you “pay” for your stay at the hotel.
2) I only saw two of the dates, but that leaked picture isn’t accurate. You get really close to kissing Tifa, but she pulls away. Aerith rests her head on Cloud’s shoulder and they lean in, but then the fireworks start and she closes her eyes and says “I told you not to fall in love with me.”
The ending does have Aerith die, but in the credits you see her floating to the bottom of the lake. There’s a close up on her face, and she opens her eyes and she’s laying in a bed, Cloud comatose near her. Zack is above her. She says “we have to save them. We have to save all of them.”
Genesis is mentioned, but that’s all you get. Cloud is very confused by it.
No Zack as playable, but you do get to see him in several cutscenes. He does start working with Avalanche in hopes to figure out how to fix Cloud and Aerith.
You get to meet Rosen, who laments on Sephiroth. You can get an optional sword from him but you need to fight this huge Baloir for it.
And say hi to Glenn, because he’s working with AVALANCHE. There’s a side quest where Cloud meets him in Gongaga, where he’s also working with Cissnei. It’s heavily hinted that there is a relationship of some sort between Cloud and Glenn, because when he sees Glenn he freaks. He also is tied in with Zack’s timeline.

I’m working through the side content to see if I missed things that may make Zack’s sideline story make more sense. I did a quick play for my first time through and I’m working my second right now. I completely missed an entire section for Vincent my first go through. You do get a really nice scene with Lucrecia in a flashback, begging to hold Sephiroth. She has like two lines of dialogue, but at least they weren’t “I’m so sorry.”

Whether he's legit or not, I do think he's right about the first part. The date is a 1 on 1 secret getaway in the original game, but in the play Barret, Red and Cait are there which wouldnt make much sense. Also it's the theme song of the game, not logical to put into something optional.

For the GS date scene there are two versions of the each date. You might’ve got the version where you don’t kiss Tifa. The kiss is confirmed by multiple credible sources already.
Where is this coming from? How are there high and low affection versions of the dates when GETTING a date with a character depends on having a high enough affection score to begin with? Not to mention the devs confirmed there's a hierarchy of the characters in the event you tie with two of them.
If i'm not mistaken in the SoP they talked how you will have to answer specific questions in the date, so it means we can fumble it.

Who are the reliable sources? Because while you can swap costumes in the Gold Saucer, I didn’t ever get that bathing suit.
The first playthrough Aerith wore her usual dress, and in the second playthrough I didn’t change Tifa’s clothes. There is a vendor you can get clothes from when you trade certain items to him, but I only saw the one bathing suit and a sundress.
It’s always possible there are multiple different date options with the same person, but my playthrough didn’t have a kiss.
Maybe they'll be unlocked in ng+ by doing other stuff, but even in your date where you didnt kiss tifa did they get as close as that leak?

Data is transferred over, though. You can get a few summons only if there’s save info on your ps5.

But more than that, the affection mechanics in OG and Remake both favored Aerith.

Hey, I tried my best. I always liked Aerith more, so when I played the first time I got her. Then I basically ignored Aerith and kept Tifa in my party for my second run through because I figured that would up the chance of my getting her as a date.

Leaker is an Aeithgay so he got good Aerith date and bad Tifa date where they don't kiss. It all fits so far. Would be better to have at least one pic though.

Look, I’m trying my very best to answer as many questions as I can. I have not fully maxed out protorelics and have completed maybe a third of the side quests. I rushed my way through my first playthrough as quickly as I could.
I’m just being as clear as I can, but there are a lot of posts and sometimes I just miss things.
All good. Did you see the Sephiroth and Zack scene where he attacks Zack at the church? Why was Sephiroth going there?
Okay, gunna break down the Zack scenes I saw. As said before, if you complete quests and other side event stuff, you get more Zack scenes. I think I saw only 4-5 my first playthrough, and then I saw another on my second as I started actually doing side missions.
I’ll be as brief as possible.
On the way back to Midgar, Zack has a dream about arriving to the church and not finding Aerith. In fear, he rushes forward with Cloud.
Zack and Cloud arrive to Midgar, and Zack leaves Cloud with Kyrie. He goes to the church to find her, but before he gets there he finds them loading Aerith’s body into ambulances by the Turks.
Tseng turns the other way and Zack is able to take Aerith.
He brings her to the sector 5 slums, where she’s nursed back to health—except she won’t wake up.
Elmyra isn’t exactly happy to have Zack around, and when Marlene tells Zack that someone is trying to kill Aerith, he knows he needs to figure out what’s going on.
Zack tries to figure out a way of curing Aerith and figuring out why she won’t wake. He knows that there’s a problem with Cloud and mako poisoning, but Aerith is a mystery.
He’s been getting visions of things not being right—people in places they shouldn’t, changing structures. The only person who doesn’t think he is crazy is Biggs, who is having similar experiences.
He goes to the church to get flowers, he thinks he sees Sephiroth. It freaks him out and he tries to figure out what’s going on because he knows Sephiroth is supposed to be dead.
He brings Aerith to the church to see if maybe it helps (my assumption is that this is how Cloud dreams about Aerith) but she gets restless and screams. He panics and rushes her back home, where she wakes up.
On my second playthrough I got a scene where Zack begins to work with Avalanche’s other cell. I feel like I am missing some chunks.
