Unironically I wouldn't play video games as a hobby.
Without Nintendo, there is no soul in gaming. The company that holds quality and fun as their two highest virtues. They saved the industry time and time again. The entire industry is just constantly playing catch up over and over with Nintendo, era after era. They tried to copy Nintendo's handhelds, they tried to copy Nintendo's motion controls, they tried to copy Nintendo's game design and art direction, they are now trying to copy Nintendo's hybrid console design. The next 7 years of gaming will be defined by every company attempting to copy Tears of the Kingdom, and failing.
Nintendo will always be there to stand the test of time and shine like a beacon for the rest of the industry to be lead by.

Possibly nonexistent, or at least in an entirely different state than we know it. Without the NES resurrecting console gaming from the crash of '83, it's a crapshoot where it all ends up.
Some British company becomes that timeline's Nintendo. The standard of what makes a good game is set by some choppy commodore 64 shit.
There were many japanese companies doing arcade software during The 80s. Pretty sure we would still get nec and sega consoles.
People would be sitting around clueless that it's even possible to make a video game that's any more enjoyable than playing a board game
Is this bait? Video games were already a multimillion dollar industry half a decade before the NES even released.
>Video games were already a multimillion dollar industry half a decade before the NES even released.
It also crashed and burned world wide. Many people think the crash just affected America but the reality is that every region saw severe drops in profit.
> The crash in 1983 had the largest impact in the United States, and rippled through all sectors of the global video game market worldwide, though sales of video games still remained strong in Japan, Europe, and Canada from the beleaguered American companies.

I feel like 3 core things would have happened overall:
-Games from Japan wouldn't make it towards america as often, if at all. Lots of people forget how much heavy handing Nintendo did to get stuff out of Japan towards US/EU shorelines. Without Nintendo, SEGA would be infighting between SOA and SOJ and nearly nothing would be brought over as a result.
-Square and Enix wouldn't even exist. The 'JRPG' that we know of would just be Wizardry clones instead. This also means no reason for Sony to jump in either.
-The West would be mostly left with just Arcade and PC ports of things, and without importing the Arcade scene would die even harder then it did already. Leaving just a heavy PC market, meaning Microsoft wouldn't have a reason to make a system for gaming either.
SEGA would still crash and burn, it was doomed to do such because of SOJ and SOA yelling at each other as early as 1993.
>SEGA would be infighting between SOA and SOJ and nearly nothing would be brought over as a result.
Forget that SoJ as we knew it probably wouldn't even exist. The master system definitely wouldn't because that was made purely because they heard Nintendo was making a home console.
Sonic wouldn't exist either since his origins were intrinsically linked to Mario.
>What would the gaming landscape look like if nintendo never existed?
Considering Nintendo contracted Sony to make the Playstation, we'd probably have Sega, Atari, Microsoft and SNK as the big four with nothing but garbage for handhelds.
They really helped the industry get off the ground, which i'm grateful for, but recently their lineup has been faltering. At least compared to the competition. Sure snoy and microshart can't muster up anything to compare, but the indie scene has really exploded with high quality games. Even at its best, Nintendo just can't compare.
Video games would've stayed on microcomputers. There likely wouldn't have been tech designed explicitly for playing video games, especially after the crash. Things would've kept going for video games after a point, which would've meant more games on cassette tapes along with cartridge games. Things eventually would've evolved into the PC market, although smaller indie or solo developers mailing out CDs with games would probably have been more common.
I think that there wouldn't have been many major video game publishers in the 80s and 90s, at least in the home market. There'd probably still be Capcom, Konami, and SNK over at the arcades, but not the big names that were appearing on consoles. Then again, once the internet started to become popular, it's almost certain that companies would try to jump in and start selling games online. The names probably would've been different, but by the mid-2000s we'd probably see something similar to what we see now anyway.
We'd be playing Pitfall! 16 on our Atari 109800s
Groovy.

Actually read my comment again, I left wiggle room intentionally.

It’s literally called “the North American video game crash”
(known as the Atari shock in Japan)

It's isn't because it didn't just affect America.

A lot less hanafuda cards.
Consoles wouldn't have taken off and wouldn't be a thing today
shit bait
sage
He's right though. Video games probably would have just died out as a fad because of the lack of regulation as well.
I said consoles dood, pcs would still be a thing and thats where people would game their games
>pcs would still be a thing
PCs wouldn't be adopted for major gaming at all.
How come?
american post

The only good game would be Doom. The original Doom. Not the new one. Minecraft would be even more popular.
