>actual in-game screenshot and not a title screen
giga cringe reddit moment
Get that FPS counter off your screen boy. That shit is gay as frick.
It may as well be a title screen because that's the first level of the game. He's going to drop it in less than an hour and then move on to another game that he won't beat. People who play with FPS counters don't finish games.
Do emulated 480i/p games scale well to the 800p screen? Is there noticable shimmering?
Most 480 games are PS2 era 3d games. Those you're better off just rendering at native anyway. Sprite based consoles actually outputted at lower resolutions. Genesis was 256x192, N64 was 320x240.
Only game I've had to run at native on PS2 so far is Rogue Galaxy. Everything else has been stable at x2.
That screen looks awful
lol you wish. A blurry picture of a game in motion is not a bad screen friend. If I knew how to make a Live Photo into a webm I would
you don't have to cope this hard
NTA but the screen does look good. Gamut coverage isn't everything.
>Gamut coverage isn't everything.
it kinda is. you can argue the screen is fine otherwise but the lack of color accuracy ruins everything else. why bother playing on the deck if you're not viewing games the intended way? having gamut that low means you'll perceive reds as oranges and purples as blues, if you compare your deck to a proper display it'll look like night and day.
such a fricking shame too, any other deck alternative with comparable performance and a decent display costs twice as much and objectively isn't worth it. i would've gladly paid 100 more bucks if it meant that my deck would've came with a proper screen. frick you gaben
It's only an issue if don't haven't calibrate the screen and based on all reviews they've done a good job. However they obviously should have gone with OLED.
>It's only an issue if don't haven't calibrate the screen
you can't calibrate the deck's screen. the most you can do is use reshade which is just a flimsy band-aid.
>based on all reviews
this is what pisses me off more. most reviewers don't mention color accuracy and the ones that do, shrug it off. it's a problem but most consumers are too moronic to understand what they're missing out on. if you've a deck, try comparing an image on the deck with a computer monitor and you'll see what i mean.
>However they obviously should have gone with OLED.
this has nothing to do with oled. yeah it would be nice but they easily could've fitted an ips screen that completely covers srgb and it wouldn't have been much more expensive.
>if you've a deck, try comparing an image on the deck with a computer monitor and you'll see what i mean
I've been playing it right next to my computer while in bed. It's not that bad. People trying to make a big deal out of something minor like always in these threads.
it pisses me off that the deck is so close to being a perfect device just for it to be brought down but one (1) problem. i'm not planning to use my deck portably anytime soon so i don't see a reason to use it over playing on my pc knowing that i'll have to deal with the washed out colors of the screen otherwise.
It is seriously not that bad. When you can play something like the witcher 3 at high settings at a solid 30 you're far more impressed by that than brought down by colors you'd have to be looking back and forth with another screen to even tell aren't quite as vibrant.
>It is seriously not that bad
it is. i've already made comparisons with my monitors and switch with the deck and it's just as bad as i thought. it doesn't help that i've played most of the games that i'm playing on the deck on my pc already so the difference is even easier to spot. i'm thinking about returning it. if i do keep it though, i hope valve or some third party will start selling some proper compatible screens that i can swap it out with.
Ok mr - so since you supposedly haven’t returned it yet, please post some comparison screens. Should be easy to do side by side with the deck.
This is not a problem at all, no blues are purples and no oranges are red, this is quite possibly the most autistic thing I’ve read in a while & is clearly coming from someone with deck envy.
Compromises have to be made, the device still has an insane price to performance ratio. The chinkshit it was compared to in that pic costs twice as much as has inferior performance and battery life
>i'm not planning to use my deck portably anytime soon so i don't see a reason to use it over playing on my pc knowing that i'll have to deal with the washed out colors of the screen otherwise.
>buy portable for literally no reason and never play it
why are weebs so autistic, i bet you have a switch as well
Valve can factory calibrate it, I mean.
You can calibrate it, actually, it's just that Valve in their infinite wisdom didn't enable the use of the tools required to do so in SteamOS
>they obviously should have gone with OLED
yeah, I love planned obsolescence
>it kinda is
If it hadn't been explicitly pointed out to me that it's only 68%, then I would have never even noticed. It looks good in person and that's way more important than numbers on paper.
i'm colorblind gamut coverage has never meant anything to me
>why bother playing on the deck if you're not viewing games the intended way? people will say this and then play Switch games at 720p/30fps
>Replying to a 64gb SD slow load cope post
Don't bother, these tards have never used one of these screen types before but act as experts because of 480p youtube stills
this bait is really spicy lately, keep it up anon
Fingers crossed something will stick. We got this pokesisters, just stay focused.
Ah shit ! The gamut! Now all the fun I have is completely sucked away that I know I have such a shitty gamut on my 7” screen. Frick, however will I enjoy elden ring and rdr2 on the go with 68% gamut?
I’ll just end myself now thanks for the heads up
your basically me but with fatass Claire in RE2R, kudos. I wish I could get the randomizer working tho.
same, I should've waited. Great Ace Attorney is the only reason I got my switch right now
>Using a screenshot from a review that literally follows it up by saying the screen looks great and is worth it
lmao
shills will clown on you, but the screen legitimately does look dull in person
This is only terrible if you're outside under a hot sun. And if you're outside playing videogames you're a fricking loser.
>And if you're outside playing videogames you're a fricking loser.
Unlike playing nude mods on your portable game machine
I find the nude mods hilarious, why so insecure?
I fricking love those RE nude mods
Wait so nude mods work? thats hilarious.
It's just a PC, why would mods not work?
I expected Linux issues or some sort of weirdness to it, I guess Skyrim mods would work too, interesting.
Most mods aren't that complicated anon. More often than not they're just a few file frickery here and there.
This switch cope pretending the screen is "awful" has been the most poorgay cope ever, holy shit, moreso when the OLED Switch still looks like shit.
No, this is the cope. I have both and the Switch OLED is miles better.
please tell me what settings to use to make tf2 not run like shit
why can't this thing run a 15 year old game at 60 fps?
>why can't this thing run a 15 year old game at 60 fps?
Modern TF2 is a spaghetti code mess of updates and cosmetics held together with duct tape and string. I imagine TF2 Classic or a 2007 build of the game would run much better on the Deck.
but what settings do I use? do I just turn everything to the minimum?
also can I get creamapi to work on the deck?
TF2 dips below 60fps on my 5900x
Theres literally nothing to do to fix it
If you want to play wacky 32+ player games you just have to deal with dipping below 60fps in fights.
Mastercomfig does increase performance, just place it in /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/tf/custom/
Top right menu in the file explorer and check show hidden items to show the .steam folder.
https://mastercomfig.com/
but it dips below 60 fps even in regular games
I've seen this mentioned before, how do I use this exactly? what does it do?
It basically sets the graphics for you and edits a bunch of other options that aren't available through the options menu, a long with not garbage net config.
Medium, Medium High, or High is what you want to use, just choose one.
It'll download a .vpk file, you just put it into your TF2 custom directory like you would a HUD /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/tf/custom/ and it automagically does everything for you.
Also put the launch arguments into steam, just open the properties of tf2 and it'll be on the first screen where you paste it. Don't put in -nosteamcontroller.
>launch arguments
I already googled and put in -steam -secure in order to let me connect to any servers
is there anything I should tweak manually?
Closing in on the end of Ys II, The Dawn of Ys is up next, followed by Ys VI and Tunic
That's such a nice deck. I'd love to play with your deck.
Playing some tunic right now while work is slow
God damn it looks so xbox huge
What a joke "portable" system
Playin Ace Attorney. Feel like an idiot for buy it on the Switch before and now having to double dip
I'm finding myself double dipping on a lot of stuff lately.
uhhh ohhh, stinky!!!
Nintendobros... PCs weren't supposed to be portable... These things are just superior Switches, what the frick are we going to do!!

Basically none of these Chinese companies have come close to a legitimate Stram Deck competitor and it's been a year and a half almost since announcement. This is really looking more and more like how the iPhone destoyed all the other cell phone companies when the iPhone released (at least until Android took off)
iPhone took off because of iTunes and the app store after it, and Steam Deck will do similar because of the Steam Store. The writing's on the wall.
There's no way to compete with the Deck because of how competitively it can price itself, they can get away with 0 profit on the actual hardware because of how well owning a Deck encourages software sales.
Delete this where are these fricking things coming from @FBI SHUT IT DOWN
>all those chink handhelds without touchpads
why in the everloving FRICK would i buy a PC GAMING based handheld only to limit myself to games that can be played with a controller?
until chinks understand what pc game is actually about i will never touch one of their dog shit handhelds
At the very least they could put one on the back side like the vita did.
Jesus fricking christ, no.
That wasn't the point he was making, but you do realize you can emulate a bunch of older consoles directly under UEFI right
>At the very least they could put one on the back side like the vita did.
that was a bad choice on Sony's part.
what part of that image conveyed pc gaming
i don't know, maybe the "ryzen 5560u Windows gaming handheld" part
explain to me how you'd emulate games without an operating system?
works on my gpdXP
if i wanted to play nothing but emulators i would have stuck to that
Bro that is awesome.
I want to play Red Alert 2 on my Deck, how do you do it?
I tried C&C Remastered but it seems to only let me use mouse input and nothing else. Disappointing.
You realize that the original also doesn't support gamepads?
That is why the Decks buttons can be remapped to send keyboard inputs, numbnuts
Origin version through lutris + a compatability fix.
Followed this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gInm74cTmW8
Just set the resolution in the RA2.ini and RA2MD.ini to 1280x800 for the deck.
>Vega iGPU
>claims of 1 hour of battery life
that's chinktrash
Not gonna lie, even the deck feels small in my hands, this thing although sexy is probably way too small for someone with manly hands like me
>Chink timebomb
I'm good, thanks.
https://www.goretroid.com/collections/frontpage/products/retroid-pocket-3-handheld-retro-gaming-system
we buyin this one UMPC bros?
Nah I'm never using those kind of joysticks again
Why are you playing a handheld inside your own room?
>play Kirby Forgotten Land on Yuzu
>decided to purchase game since it was really cute
>continue to play it on deck
>continue to play it on deck
yeah nah, you didn't
>implying I own a switch
>decided to purchase game
ESL moment? using 'decided' here implicitly implies you have a switch. saying otherwise just makes you look like a moron in your own greentext story
>ESL moment? using 'decided' here implicitly implies you have a switch
not him but it literally doesn't imply that
>literally implying someone would buy a game without owning a switch
are all decklets this moronic
>literally implying someone would buy a game without owning a switch
that's totally possible. either way what he said doesn't imply what you said it does
You can buy a game for a console you don’t have. Did you know that? They don’t card you for your Nintendo Power subscription at GameStop.
Where's the penis though
Ugly ass skin.
Recently finished Katana Zero, probably going to play Bully for the first time. And I pick up Elden Ring from time to time.
Frick off pirategay
did I frick up getting the 512gb version?
no oled no buy
Based, hope you're using the pnach that fixes the HUD.
i am not, care to point me in the right direction?
hey anon ignore this
i googled it and found it, thanks for making me aware of its existence
Sorry I was occupied until now.
Will still post it for anyone else who wants it:
https://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-No-interlacing-codes?pid=619908#pid619908
good call.
installing it is easy if anyone isnt familiar, download the pnach file that anon is linking to here and save it under a folder named cheats whre pcsx2 is installed. then enable cheats in pcsx2 and boot up the game, thats it
cultist simulator
i've beeen waiting for this. time to see how hard/easy these things are to fix.
I like this guys videos
RIP TERRY
You shouldn't. He supports "the newest thing".
kys, i'm not an opinion cuckold
I'd prefer if it was never brought up in any capacity. However, he did so over a number of hot topics that had no place in his community posts and videos. You can't have quality content without a chance at shoehorning. You'll eventually fold into one with enough exposure.
>Paying nearly the cost of the product new
The frick was he thinking with this one? Usually he gets 2-3 of a broken product for the price of 1.
Every Steam Deck that currently exists is still under warranty (and I just had Valve replace my Index controller while over 10 months out of warranty so they're lenient) who the frick sold this instead of just RMAing?
I have a friend coming to visit me from USA in december (im in a country where deck will never be sold). Think there will be enough availability for him to just get me one before he comes over or does he need to reserve it now?
I have a moronic question. If you have a game installed on your PC already, can you copy the files to the SteamDeck and have steam just pick them up and install straight away without redownloading them like you can between windows pcs? I know this wouldn't work for linux native games but anything you need proton for.
The game files you use on Windows and the game files you would download on thr Steam Deck are 100% the same, so yes
why wouldn't this work for Linux native games?
Vanilla Bannerlord is better than moded Warband.
From what ive seen bannerlord is far from finished and lacks any real detail that warband has. The battles in bannerlord look great though
every day i continue to find more and more reasons why this is basically vita 2.0
feels fricking good man
like my biggest gripes with the vita were how small text would be on VNs and such and this has become a non-issue, especially with the ability to toggle a magnifier.
vita had some absolute banger exclusives (dungeon travelers 2-2 etc.) but i can't think of a reason to go back to this device ever again. many of the VNs have been ported to the switch at this point too.
i think people are even emulating vita games with moderate success these days with vita3k or w/e
served me well for 7 years but the torch has been passed
holy frick, I didn't realize how huge the deck is
Man, why is desktop mode so fricking horrendous to use? Seriously, it's so unintuitive. Why is simply clicking and copying files without using a mouse such a fricking pain in the ass?
works just fine for me
i have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse
>he didn't remap his desktop mode controls to be more useful
ngmi
Can I remap them to fricking work? Seems like if steam isn't open as a application I can't even click on shit and I need steam shut down to install emudeck.
Without steam open, clicking is mapped to RT in desktop
Thanks anon, I appreciate it. I should probably have researched a bit more but I'm just eager to get into things.
Also christ 1TB sd cards are expensive.
I recently sold my deck to pay my rent.
I am not happy I had to do that.
If you are having trouble paying rent you shouldn't be playing video games at all
rn playing nier automata, diablo 2 remastered and forza horizon 4. nier runs perfect on here , and the other 2 i cant complain at all about
It's fun messing with settings to optimize battery life, but honestly 20fps feels too low even for a VN. I guess it depends on how animated the VN is. 40 feels perfect though.
64gb deck owner here, shld i get a bigger drive to install in it? i saw one of the valve guys on twitter say its a bad idea because it fricks with the temp or something
It fricks with the temp if you get the wrong model. You need a 2230.
Valve was warning against installing other models. For a little while people thought they were geniuses for cutting off a chunk of a 2280 to make it fit in the deck and slotting it in (since 2280s are much more available), so Valve had to come out and formally tell people that that's going to frick your temps.
As long as you get a 2230 there's no problem.
MK8 runs almost perfect, any other Switch games that run this well?
Most of them.
MK8 is considered one of the hardest titles to emulate. Switch is just a low power system using common parts.
how much better is ryujinx on the deck now that it has vulkan?
in my testing from a while back
>13 sentinels
>super mario 3d world
>metroid dread
>fire emblem three houses
>animal crossing new horizons
all ran acceptably for me, and im someone who wont tolerate stutters and slowdown.
>warioware
>smash ultimate
were close, but had some minor issues that were annoying.
so you saw that he's charging, but ignored all the other information in the overlay. are numbers hard for you?
so you saw my post but ignored every word in in, including the following conversation. is your brain really so addled?
how bored are you? go play video games.
he's not running at 24w or 8 cores. end of story.
no, it was the us version and i checked. i noticed it because the dialogue at the beginning was fricked by slowdown. ran the same file off my ps3 and it's not 50.
maybe pcsx2 on deck has been fixed since then. i tried ps2 emulation back in may, and havent revisited anything that didnt perform well.
>he's not running at 24w or 8 cores
anon. literally count the number of cores on the overlay. i'll wait.
and i can ASSURE you a game that is running the fans up to 6600 RPM is almost certainly drawing 24W
i have emulated nearly 90 switch games on the deck, i'm fully aware of the scope of these things.
*8 threads
The deck only has four cores.
What SD cards are worth using?
This one seems good for cheap but don't suppose anyone can vouch for this brand?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-Micro-MicroSDXC-Fastest-Memory/dp/B088HRTXDH/ref=pd_lpo_1?pd_rd_i=B088HRTXDH&psc=1
stick with well known brands
If you want cheap then samsung evo select 512gb. If you want 1TB then sandisk extreme.
Also, never buy SD cards from third party sellers on Amazon ever
this
but evo select for random read/write speeds, sandisk extreme for volume
I have the A2 Sandisk but the 1tb version. Its speeds are comparable to the build in SSD and makes an easy storage extension.
The effort they put into the models and cutscenes for this game is great but holy shit the gameplay is not fun.
>english patch changes his name to gatsu
for what purpose
playing Sekiro and FFXII
having FFXII to hop into during lunch breaks is so fricking sick
Whats the difference between a dock and hdmi
People use the terms interchangeably but technically an hdmi is literally just that, an hdmi cable, while a dock normally has a stand with HDMI out, USB C power and USB A ports. There's also hubs which are just docks without the stand.
I see, thanks.
I guess with just a hdmi you wouldnt be able to charge at same time, which wouldnt be very useful for the deck
How well does Bannerlord run on it?
Uh... bros?
Decklets will defend this.
Decklets won't defend this.
The worst thing about this video is seeing Chrome and Discord installed on the deck
Y-yeah well... I-I don't wanna play them. N-nintendo games are all bad anyway.
8:30 for a look at a more recent version of Yuzu running Kirby on the Deck.
Some frame dips from shader caching but overall very playable, especially if you find a premade shader cache online.
Nobody will care unless you turn that into an easily shitpostable webm. And even then the tendie samegayging that webm will not care. But he might try to move on to something else.
>that frametime
still needs powertools to get smooth frametime
this well and beyond exceeded my expectations of what I thought the deck would be capable of
this is bait btw
moron is emulating while charged and CPU boost and 8 threads in every game
he's forcing it to throttle point in nearly every game
absolute giga moron who has no idea what they are doing
>while charged
So?
>8 threads in every game
Yuzu only uses a max of 6 threads
>he's forcing it to throttle point in nearly every game
Holy shit this is some advanced cope.
Also he's using FSR and emulating the docked mode versions of the games, you can turn off AA completely and run handheld mode for even better performance.
yes moron, i'm saying this 'showcase' is doing a great disservice towards showcasing the emulation by making everything run at like 24W when he literally does not have to at all
>while charged
>So?
I seriously hope you don't do this.
wh-what's wrong with that
>furtroony is an absolute giga moron
yea nah, gl with that anon.
look forward to that battery frying out before the end of the year
Nothing. Someone's just going full meltdown mode over that youtube video.
Yeah this emulation actually looks extremely good. Nintendo should be way more afraid than I previously thought, no wonder the tendie defense force has been so active lately
i dont get it why do people defend and lick the boots of billionare globalhomosexual corporations that wouldn't care if you were alive or dead
Nintendo wouldn't have to be afraid of the deck if they just bothered to make sure the Switch had decent hardware since the start.
They used an outdated mobile chip that was outdated even before the system released. Not to surprising emulation hasn't been that difficult.
Afraid of what? Selling more Switches?
Do you gays genuinely think the Deck is some sort of competitor instead of a handheld PC.
>Do you gays genuinely think the Deck is some sort of competitor
Nintendo themselves obviously view them as a competitor. Why else would they take down Switch emulation videos on the Steam Deck specifically. If you could play every single Switch game on the thing at native (or even better), the Switch would basically become useless. That doesn't mean clueless soccer moms wouldn't be buying them still but that post-college demographic they've been striving for with the Switch is going to become that much more inaccessible.
It completely replaces the switch as a handheld designed for the novelty of playing modern games portably. If you didn't care about nintendo first parties before, then that was literally the only reason to buy a switch.
I should be getting mine on Monday. I'm not even sure yet. I'll do Emudeck first, load a bunch of emulators and roms.
Jesus Christ, I wasn't even considering playing Switch games on the Deck, but after seeing that, I may actually do it.
The tendies will deny this proof.
Why are Switch gays so self-important a d keen to victimize themselves? They always fricking lie too, its embarassing.
post a comparison of the Deck running Elden Ring and the Switch
stop spaming this shitty video.
deck bros don't give a frick.
nintentoddlers always have a complex
How hard is it to shift your emulators and other data from your SSD to an SD card?
I was gonna wait till next pay day before I buy an sd card.
Should be about the same as copying data from an SSD to an SD card on a PC.
If you used emudeck, you may want to run it again when you get the SD card.
anyone else has this screen problem?
Can't say I do
Have you tried a different angle when using it?
Use a sock when your wiener is near electronics you son of a b***h
anyone else has this schizo knifing problem?
No, you're just mentally ill.
The only justification for doing this is if you were replacing all the buttons and sticks anyways.
what if he's just mentally based, anon?
Scratching shit up with a knife for no reason isn't based, anon. That's lower then Black person type of behavior.
idk man, seems absolutely based as frick to me tbqhwmn
>cutting towards himself
I want one for emulation alone, how is ps2 and gamecube?
flawless on the following games ive tried
god hand
khfm/kh2fm
berserk
budokai 3
raidouu vs soulless army
wind waker
fzero gx
minor bugs but playable:
valkyrie profile 2, has some weird hud elements and slowdown the very first area, works well after that
really bad slowdown:
transformers 2004 on ps2
dirge of cerberus
Thanks, do you reckon the PS2 compatibility will improve significantly with a power bump in the steamdeck 2 or is it as good as its going to get since pcsx2 is a bit shit on everything?
You might see small performance increases in some games or the ability to run them at a higher resolution, but the main problem is just PCSX2 being a hacky piece of shit. Most stuff you'll want to play is probably going to run fine now though unless you have really niche taste.
see , replied to wrong post
PS2 is always going to be a b***h to emulate because its architecture is fricked, PCSX2 isn't to blame its just making the best out of a bad situation.
But yes, it's less of a performance issue and more of an emulation issue. A Steam Deck 2 is unlikely to have noticeably better performance in PS2. Shit like Shadow of the Colossus will always run like garbage.
The Deck is already powerful enough to theoretically run any PS2 game at full speed, so it's not gonna be any better on an eventual Deck 2 unless the emulator itself improves
i mean its pretty good, if you have some games youre really looking to play, search them up on yt, lots of people are posting benchmarks. sure a bit more power might get some games running slightly better but this is pretty good for what we have now. personally having godhand/kh2fm on the go at 60fps is amazing
>dirge of cerberus
Did you enable MTVU for this? I didn't think the steam deck was that weak.
>flawless
>minor bugs
deck tards are so fricking stupid bros
GameCube is perfect if you use powertools to limit CPU threads to 4
PS2 is great but still has problem games that barely run even on high end PCs
>ps2
spotty. i keep running into games that have disappointing performance. i dont know if theyre just hard to emulate or not, but breath of fire v was the first game i wanted to emulate on my deck and it was only hitting like 50 fps.
might just be an issue with less popular games. most of the popular stuff runs great, so if you want to just be playing stuff like burnout 3, ratchet & clank, we love katamari, etc. that stuff all runs perfect
>gamecube
everything flawless except the tough stages on f-zero gx. you probably wont be running into any issues that you wouldnt run into on other hardware.
>50fps
PAL version by any chance? Because if so, that's your own fricking fault.
PS2 is good (as good as PCSX2 can be at least), pretty much everything runs at 60@720 and the few games that don't run perfectly in native resolution.
Gamecube, nothing I've tried so far has had any problems but I haven't tested it anywhere near as much.
Perfect for everything I've tried. Did have some trouble trying to get some of the N64 emulators to run roms. Not sure why Project64 refuses to work.
didn't ps2 just get a huge update recently
im goin to wait for steam to make the deck smaller. deck to big for what its worth. i need it size of vita
k
That won't happen until we get solid state batteries. Computer components take too much power.
Why do people never post webms of games actually running well on the damn thing but instead only post photos without fps screenshots?
Because no one wants to record a device that takes two hands to hold? If it was direct capture, people would say it isnt the deck.
That being said, literally search a game + steam deck and people on youtube do that shit for every game imaginable
Nothing I just let my reservation expire
I was buying it for fun and because its a cool piece of tech but GPU's just went down so I got a 3080 instead
anyone know how to fix "no route to host" errors trying to ssh into the deck? sshd is running, i can ping my deck, and as far as i can tell there's no firewall blocking ports or anything
nevermind, figured it out
New Yuzu update fixed game closing in game mode.
Nice, another 10 years and you might have basic functionality down lmao
Actually, emulation is mostly perfect for most titles people give a shit about like Metroid Dread that runs better than native Switch.
There's literally no reason to own a Switch in 2022.
Online multiplayer is the one thing I think
Switch's online multiplayer is absolute cancer for so many reasons and I don't miss it. Just another reason nintendo needs to go 3rd party.
I just use Ryujinx. I seem to have loads of inexplicable problems whenever I use Yuzu.
'ick on the 'eck
Is it true the new update tanked performance on some games in the Deck? Like 10 frames lower?
I've been testing out some stuff and it seems like everything is normal so far. But I hear it's fan and heat related or something.
Where did you hear that? I haven't experienced it.
A bro of mine linked me a leddit thread. But it's hard to tell with this stuff because complaints tend to get amplified in an online environment.

I talked to two other IRL friends if they had problems and aside from a bit of wifi frickery on one, it's been mostly fine since the update. Well anyway, it's not affecting me so far so I guess I'll just ignore it in the mean time.
unironically werks on my machine
maybe there was a hotfix?
Been fine with mine so far. Redditards might just be smooth in the head.
I know GTA has a bit of a problem now but that's apparently because of an update Rockstar did. Booted up RDR2 though and it seems fine.
Wasn't this a dark and edgy comic why is Gatsu fighting snowmen
Is buying the 64gb version dumb?
>Emudeck defaults the Saturn core to the shitty Yabuse one instead of the superior Mednafen core
Go to the desktop mode and open EmuDecks settings menu, you can change system cores in there.
wow cory looks like this now?
when he got to california a homeless woman ran up and poured boiling chemicals on him
>emudeck wiki says gamecube defaults to dolphin standalone
>it actually fricking loads retroarch dolphin

Configure your fricking emulators manually instead of relying on a script with shitty "improved defaults". Emudeck is a piece of shit written by a literal underage that thinks he knows what has the best compatibility-performance tradeoff better than the fricking emulator developers.
anyone know why my steamdeck is no longer detecting my microsd when i go to storage in game mode?
in desktop mode i can clearly see how much space remains on my SD (less than 1gig), and games that boot from it are running just fine
it just won't display on the storage overview (so i could uninstall steam games from it)
Sounds like a bug, report to valve
what if they look into whats on my sd card ;_;
Try returning to the stable channel, if you're no longer in it.
Will dbrand ever put that wood veneer skin back up for sale because I really want it, especially if its a walnut veneer
anyone using emulationstation? i set up emudeck but emulationstation isn't picking up pcsx2
Any able to play rabi rabi successfully? The pirated version just crashes for me
anyone cum on their deck yet? i don't have a penis so
Don't cut your dick off.
this you?
Wanted to set up some apps and emulators in desktop mode but the virtual keyboard sucks ass for terminal commands so I'm gonna hold off until I get a USB C hub to go along with it.
Why would you use terminal to install anything, if you can't install it via flatpak on Discover it's just going to get wiped anyway
I was trying to install Emudeck since some blogs were recommending it but it was asking for a password for advanced settings and I noticed that the virtual keyboard kept dropping my inputs when trying to configure shit or edit config files. Plus for whatever reason the virtual keyboard doesn't have ctrl or alt keys. I'm holding off on that until I can use a physical keyboard for it.
i have this for my steam deck, fits inside the case as well underneath

Where do you get cia files for citra? I thought I'd found a place but they were some file type that doesn't work with citra.
Why the hell is lutris not showing up? I followed the instructions on the lutris site
Showing up where? Should be in the start menu once installed. Probably under "Games" or you can search for it
Trying to install it from the discovery store. After running the commands, searching the start menu shows "get lutris" followed by an error in the discovery store.
Could not open appstream://net.lutris.lutris on discovery store
How much is the steamed dick going on ebay? Thought about buying a couple to flip.
It’s too late for that
A few weeks late.
That being said, he might do well to sell it to some poor sod in SEA or SA starving for one.
How risky is buying a deck? I heard sellers can call valve, claim their deck was stolen and when the buyer logs into the deck they get VAC banned
Do you know what "VAC" is moron? lmao
Uh what "commands"? You install it from Discover and that should be it.
https://lutris.net/downloads
Your .desktop file never got created to show up in the start menu. I assume you restarted and uninstalled/reinstalled. System-wide flatpak data is in /var/lib/flatpak and user data is in /home/USER/.var/app so you can check those. You can also run "flatpak install flathub-beta net.lutris.Lutris", it's the same as installing it from Discover.
Oh you may need to enable the flathub beta repo as well if you install via terminal
flatpak remote-add flathub-beta https://flathub.org/beta-repo/flathub-beta.flatpakrepo
flatpak update --appstream
How old are you to still be falling for "my dad works at Nintendo" tier misinformation?
>You go outside to actually do meaningful stuff and interact with others, right?
Yes. I also like to play some games on my lunch break and have played some fighting games with others on my lunch break.
is there some extra setup for pcsx2? i can get the boot up screen in retroarch with the memory card and disc and everything, but it just locks up or won't boot any iso i try.
Needs BIOS files
i have them
got nothing then, sorry. Try reinstalling.
I would recommend installing through Emudeck to minimise the possibility of fricking up
Don't use the retroarch core, use the flatpack/appimage.
Anyone share their Koikatsu Summer binds?
RTS bros, how's it lookin? Have you all found a way to play comfortably without a mouse? Won't be getting my Deck until winter but I'd like to know how things are going for RTS Chads
Didn't event bother with it, readability would be an issue for me. Games like RimWorld, Factorio etc is great tho
Deck prototypes.
I'm glad they ditched using face buttons for the dpad but the fact they never even tried a Sega styled control disk is disappointing.

https://www.jsaux.com/products/upgraded-docking-station-for-steam-deck
JSAUX has an equivalent USB-C dock, if you were waiting on Valve's official one
why is it taking them so long to release a dock?
OS isn't as seamless during Docked mode. That's why if you check the SteamOS updates there are a lot of stuff that they're trying to iron out resolution wise, etc. before they release the Dock.
Valve are massive morons and didn't put any ports on the bottom so they're trying to redesign the dock so it doesn't look fricking stupid with a dangling cable that you have to connect to the top like this one.
Supply chain issues
should I just wait for the official one instead?
A dock's a dock, Valve's official one will probably be the highest quality overall but it's gonna be hard to beat JSAUX's which has all the same features
when the frick is the official one coming out?
That's for Valve to say, all we know is "delayed until further notice"
I don't want to spend money on one only for the official one to come out later
but I really want to hook this thing to my monitor and be able to plug other controllers and an Ethernet cable into it
how good will the deck perform outputting to a 1080p display anyway?
Alright Ganker I'm coming to you for help 'cause I'm fricking stupid.
I'm trying to get Final Fantasy 8 working but the music doesn't work. An FF game without music is fricking torture, so that's a big deal. Looking at ProtonDB, it seems that this is an easy enough fix if I can get protontricks to run...but I'm apparently too much a brainlet to do so. I keep running into an error where 'cabextract' aborts a process as I'm trying to install shit.
Please god someone help me. I want to be miserable playing FF8, not miserable failing to play FF8.
You are having issues installing Protontricks? If you are using the flatpak Protontricks it might have some limitations compared to the regular version (since flatpaks need to run sandboxed). I would submit your error logs to the devs they would know better than anyone. You might just have to flip a switch in flat seal or something https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks/issues. You can also try installing the AUR version, though this may get wiped in the next update: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/protontricks. Honestly if I were you though I would just emulate.
Cheers mate. Thank you.
I wish the deck's controllers weren't fused with the rest of the console. Have it like a unwireless joycon so I don't need to have extra clutter on it if I just want to lean the dick on a table and use a proper gamepad.
My pc only has 128mb vram.
my pc only has a burnt cheez-it in it
I hope Valve creates an equivalent to Aya Neo Air with the Van Gogh APU. But then they'd probably need to remove atleast one touch pad.
The people shit talking the touchpads have never used a good radial menu bind setup in their life and that makes me sad that people meme the touchpads into being useless when for me they are the main draw of the controller part of the steam deck and by extension a steam controller 2 if that shit ever happens
I agree. I think the touch pads are amazing and they need to stay. Atleast one of them at the minimum.
I doubt they'll ever get rid of the touchpad.
But the recent nip interviews does confirm that they're really interested on how the asian audience will react to the form factor. They're considering doing some smaller/sleeker designs for it if need be.
To do that, they would need to merge the Dpad and ABXY with the touchpads again and I can't see them doing that. I can see them making it smaller and lighter where you have the Duke Xbox thing going on again, but otherwise, I can't see them conceding on such a big point.
I've been playing CS 1.6 on my Deck. Works pretty well with gyro set up and using a radial menu on the left touch pad for other functions.
I'm still hoping that a Steam Deck with an OLED screen ever comes out.
I can imagine ifixit or some company releasing a replacement OLED screen in the future.
That would be perfection
Frick PSX emulation on this thing, I've tried everything I can't think of and it still refuses to work

Just got my Steam Deck. Only played a bit of Super Meat Boy on it so far. It's nice to see Valve actually verified the Linux builds of some games instead of sucking themselves off by recommending Proton for everything.
Is there any difference between playing a Linux game with Steam Linux Runtime and not using Steam Play at all? Every game verified to run "native" is actually set to use Steam Linux Runtime, which is also the only option for running the native versions of games verified for Proton. Once Valve gives a game any kind of rating, there doesn't seem to be any way to turn off Steam Play for it. Meanwhile it doesn't say Steam Linux Runtime is used for native games not rated by Valve. Maybe it makes no difference on Steam Deck, but if there's any difference between Steam Linux Runtime and no compatibility tool then I'd like to be able to make that choice for verified games.
how do you even tell if a game has a linux version or not and if you have it installed?
what even is steam linux runtime?
>how do you even tell if a game has a linux version or not and if you have it installed?
When you select a game in the library, then somewhere under "game info" or whatever, it will say if a game is using Steam Play. Every game for Windows will say Proton there, unless you selected something else like Luxtorpeda for it. If it says Steam Linux Runtime in that spot, or if it says nothing, then you've got the native version of the game selected.
>what even is steam linux runtime?
Some kind of container thing, apparently. It's in the compatibility tools list alongside Proton, but unlike Proton, it's for native Linux games instead of Windows games.
when would you use steam linux runtime?
>how do you even tell if a game has a linux version or not and if you have it installed?
If a game has a Linux version but you've got the Windows version installed thanks to Valve saying it somehow works better (which may or may not be true since they don't tell us why they made that choice), it's not obvious that the Linux version exists at all, unless you go look at the store page. Even that won't tell you sometimes. Last time I checked, Overlord 1 and 2 still have native versions which are completely unadvertised. The store pages say Windows only, but I can run them natively on my Linux PC. Didn't try on Deck yet.
>Is there any difference between playing a Linux game with Steam Linux Runtime and not using Steam Play at all?
Steam Linux Runtime is for native ports and Steam Play is for Windows games running under Proton. Fundamentally they are the same shit, Proton is nothing but a script that makes a Windows game into a Linux port. In fact, so many old Linux ports are nothing but the Windows version running in WINE anyway. That, or the games were made for outdated libraries than what is contained in the Runtime libraries of Steam (e.g. many feral interactive ports). So since those games play like garbage on modern Linux machines, Steam may pick to run these games with Proton. Proton after all is a compatability tool, and one of the main uses of it is to support older games. There is really nothing special about a Linux native game versus a Proton Windows game other than it won't say "Exit to Windows?" when you close it
>That, or the games were made for outdated libraries than what is contained in the Runtime libraries of Steam (e.g. many feral interactive ports). So since those games play like garbage on modern Linux machines, Steam may pick to run these games with Proton.
Unfortunately there are cases of Valve choosing Proton for games whose Linux versions work perfectly well on my Linux PC, although I haven't had a chance to make sure they work perfectly on Deck as well. Maybe Valve had some legit reason for picking Proton for Shovel Knight, but they don't say why they did it, so how am I to know?
There are also apparently some games which work natively outside of Steam Play but are broken by Steam Linux Runtime, e.g.
which is why it's a problem that Steam Play can't be disabled for a game after Valve slaps a rating on it.
how do I hook up and map a switch n64 controller to this thing properly?
>Decker's day revolves about emulating Nintendo games and posting about it on reddit and Ganker
Know why it's called so close to "dick"? Because it's the only way a troony could have a dick close to "her"!

Why would you wantsuch setup?
>Why would you wantsuch setup?
So that the deck could stand up on a stand, the keyboard could be used to type on it, and the usb-c dock next to it could provide power and external storage.
Isn't it obvious?
Yopu forgot external monitor part.
Annoying question, but where do you guys get your Switch ROMs from?
I want to emulate Switch KOTOR for the convenience of the controller support built-in
Why are Steam Deck threads always so cringe.
Started Hollow Knight a few days ago, works well.
Imagine if there was a lightweight gaming version of Windows for devices like this.
Microsoft would never do this because they are hilariously incompetent hacks run by shareholders that only care about stupid easy money.
Linux worked waaaaay better than I was expecting it to, so I honestly don't care about windows at all at this point. All the horror stories about linux being a huge pain with constant crashes and needing to use cryptic command lines in the terminal for everything hasn't been my experience with it at all.
Is there any way to access the ext4 formatted sd card on my windows PC? I want to transfer my ROMs over to it.
There are ways, but require installing WSL (linux shell) or some other app
running games in windowed is better than fullscreen, isn't it?
