Why did the asiatic writers have every female companion fall for Ash if they were just going to swap them out every generation?

      Anonymous

Only Serena and arguably Misty fell for Ash.

Arguably? You should've been there during pokemania. Ash and Misty merch and posters everywhere.

I said arguably because a lot of Misty’s attraction to Ash was stuff that 4kids added to the dub. There’s still some stuff that hints that Misty likes Ash like pic related and stuff from the second movie, but the main writer has said that Misty had no romantic attraction for Ash at all.

Wait. 4kids added a romance that wasn't there?!

Never watched OS subbed so I can't confirm there but I do hear a lot of it was originally added. Including stuff like the 2.B.A. Master songs which included this.

Honestly with all the baffling censorships 4Kids had, they produced some good shit for their shows. They should've just stuck to kids shows instead of gutting shows for teens to make it appropriate for kids

              Anonymous

Of the top off my head some of the stuff they changed or added
              >Ash calls Misty’s goldeen outfit cute instead of saying it’s interesting
              >In one Johto episode Misty tells Ash that a girl is interested in Brock which was changed to Misty saying “you and I will be married too someday”
              >Misty’s goodbye song in Johto was heavily changed from showing clips of her bonding with her Pokemon to only showing moments between her and Ash with the dub song having a much more romantic tone
              >her last line in Johto dub is her saying that Ash still doesn’t understand how she truly feels
              >Misty’s song on the 2ba master album ends with her saying “I love you, Ash”

None of the metacommentary Shudo came up with after leaving is canon, and a lot of the stuff he said while on the show was later proven to be non-canon too as seen with the companion books he wrote.

              Anonymous

Misty not having any romantic feelings for Ash wasn’t something he came up with after leaving the show. He believed that if that was the case then the romance subplot would take focus away from the Pokemon and Ash and Pikachu’s relationship.

There's direct evidence on the show while he was the head writer that Misty had feelings for Ash. Either he came up with it post-hoc or while he was on the show and was overruled by whoever made the decision to give her those hints.

Either way the show operated on the idea that she has feelings for Ash even in the very end, so it doesn't matter regardless.

Like I said in the start. It’s arguable because they’ve never been as explicit with her feelings in japanese like they were with Serena, Anabel, and that tomboy girl in DP.

It's not arguable because she's very clearly a tsundere lol, like the most well known one globally in anime.

misty does not love Ash and never will.

There are no "hints" nothing happens outside of what we see. these are anime characters not living people, nothing happens.

Ash is forever 10 years old and only loves his mom and pokemon, he has no romantic feelings for any girl and no girl has feelings for him.

misty got a terrible ending. lmao they even had the bath with Pikachu at the end as a final frick you lol.

This is pokemon not naruto there will be no love story.

the original writer, corporate pokemon, and one of the new directors or writers all said that Ash will never age, therefore there is not romance of any kind.

you shippers ruin everything. poke, Pearl, aromur, and the others all lost.

I hate shipping and shippers, but that sounds like a fricking stupid cheap excuse. Let's remember that Shudo was a drug and alcohol addict, who died for that very reason, and many things in his blogs were extraordinarily ambiguous or simply made no sense.

Gen 1 was absolutely NOT the best. It laid the groundwork for future generations, and for that, it deserves respect, but other generations did the same things it did, but better.

    yeah, probably

This is probably true up until a certain point. Everyone has bias towards the one they grew up with obviously. I usually look past some of Gen III's short comings because I find it to be my favorite alongside HGSS, and the fact that Emerald was my first adds on top of that. But I still like/love most of the other games up until Gen VI, and even then I still feel some form of appreciation for Gen VI.
Regardless of all of that though, it's becoming harder and harder to ignore the shortcomings of the games, especially the ones released on the Switch. I think in five to fifteen years time, you probably won't find the same love for Gen VIII and Gen IX like you do the prior games. Then again, these are some of the most popular in the franchise so it's hard to really say.

  22. 4 months ago

Ahh.. I played a lot of emerald and crystal as a kid, I also played a bit of b2w2 and rby aswell but I mainly played the first 2 games I mentioned
I fricking loved rayquaza, thought it was the coolest thing ever.

How do you grow up with 1 gen when they released 4 generations in the span of 10 years?

      Anonymous

I didn't. I grew up with Gen 1 to 4 from the years 2000 to 2010 where I dropped the anime cuz I thought BW was gay. But for kids who began with BW in 2010 they would have experienced the second generation of Pokemon (BW, XY, SM, JN). We can thus split the show in 2 eras. The classic Japan (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh) Era and the World Wide Era (America, France, Hawaii, England).

        This is totally moronic.
        I'm

        >started with Pearl on emulator that a friend put on my computer but i could never get far since I wanted to play from the start and couldn't figure out how to delete his save
        >owned a DVD with the first 6 episodes of OS (probably the most I've watched of the anime since I'd rewatch them constantly)

        >game I put the most time into was Black 2
        >favorite gen is gen 3

, most of my formative years were spent during Gen 5 era, but the huge backlog of Pokemon content up to that point meant I actually spent a lot of time playing old games and watching old episodes of the anime rather than new stuff.
The only way for someone to grow up exclusively with post-Gen 5 Pokemon content is for them to have been born in the last ten years - i.e. too young to be posting here.

Nobody gave a frick about BW. XY brought in the new gen of tourists cuz they made Ash an edgelrod and gave him a Hinata clone. Meanwhile BW was always being shitted on so even nonne anime watchers knew to avoid it. SM brought in an entire new crew of twitter users too, and JN brought in Fujoshi and DB power scalers. Gen 1 to 4 are considred the classic run for a reason because everyone agreed Sinnoh was the perfect place to retire Ash at.

Ok? And why does any of that matter for what anyone missed out on?
Did the gen 1-4 anime evaporate into the aether once the final DP episode aired?

                Anonymous

You know kids don't really bother to watch older shit? I hada friend who only ever started with DP and while I kept on with the anime since Kanto he just dropped it after DP and never came back or go check out the older ones.

                Anonymous

Kids watch whatever is on TV, and most of the time what's on TV is reruns cause new episodes were usually released weekly and then you had to wait even longer for dubs and such.
I dunno how it is in america, but over here you'd get daily episodes of old shit like Yu-Gi-Oh DM or Pokemon AG or DP in like 2010 and 2011 because there wasn't enough material to air BW or the newest Yu-Gi-Oh series every single day.

Got Pokemon Red for my 10th birthday, stopped playing after Pearl, started again with White. I couldn't even tell you what the best gen is because every gen has its good and bad points. I was most invested in Pokemon in gen 6, so that'd probably be my vote if I had to choose one.
