Real life humans carry the genetic lineage of multiple nonhuman species inside of our own genome already, like Neanderthals and Denisovans. Neanderthals were barrel-chested manlets with goblin voices whose arms weren't designed right for throwing spears, and the Denisovans were... well, we don't really know because all we have to base their anatomy on are finger bones and jaws, but they had weird fricked up giant teeth for sure, and with the way their DNA is expressed in modern humans, there's reason to believe they were flat-skulled, hobbit-looking motherfrickers with childbearing hips.
It's possible that denisovans were adapted to high altitude and those genes transferred to humans.

Had a similar idea with orcish hordes. See, orcs don't actually have a use for gold and israeliteels but know they can trade them with human farmers for food, leather, fabric, and occasionally iron. Sure, they could raid the farms but this way they can come back year after year for more food.
So orks will travel long distances to raid cities and merchants but then return home to trade that wealth for bread, cotton, and salt with their neighbors.
In a human kingdom that was a colony of another kingdom and needed more laborers than new colonists and nstural birth rates could support. Some smart gnomes found out you could purchase orc slaves to the south and brought them to the colony kingdom. Orcs were treated brutally, bred and beaten like livestock and worked 12 hours a day in the mines. Recently, a gnomish cabal has maneuvered the youngest female heir to power, and the last few decades have seen immense cultural changes. Worshippers of a goddess of equality and mercy have elevated orcs, now free, as demigod figures and it is considered both a privilege and an obligation to have an orc mate or let one rape your wife.

There's no way in hell local lordships and other jurisdictions wouldn't try to simply pay off the orc tribes to not raid them, and over time the established relations would lead to small numbers of orcs being part of the lordship's retinue. You get an orc who's the lord's loyal retainer, to help keep the other orcs and the neighbouring tribe in line, and after years of loyal service he's permitted to marry one of the lord's younger daughters, who's not needed for political marriage and would otherwise be sent to a cloister.
Affair with a bodyguard/retainer. It happens now and has been happening since bodyguards/retainers/household-soldiers were a thing. Orcs (and half-orcs) being big & strong can make them good fighters and so bodyguard/retainer would be a common profession.

I don't like rape, it is sinful. Furthermore it makes the group mood kinda akward and doesn't really add anything to 5he campaign. So I gloss over it on NPCs to help keep that G-rating and then wash my hands clean of the situation by leaving it to the players on how they want their own backstory.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Forgotten Realms did it right. There's human and orc tribes on the periphery of civilization that routinely intermarry for both political and romantic reasons. It's a brutal, hard land that produces brutal, hard people of both races who marry more for practical reasons than for looks (an Orc wife might be ugly as sin, but she can fight and work harder than any human female).
