these for me as well
elden ring was disappointing in the open world aspect but the legacy dungeons were very solid
Skyward Sword. The motion controls are fricking shit and nearly made recreate the wiimote-through-tv meme.
whats bad about theme
PSO2 new genesis.
Fallout 4
Sonic Adventure 2
Breath of the Wild and its sequel
Came here to say this. Botw was by far the biggest disappointment. So much hype flipped right around into disappointment.
Can't say the same about totk though, I knew exactly what it would be so I just emulated it to make sure and dropped it 5 hours in.
Elden slop
This game
This has to be the worst story I've ever seen in a game, and the gameplay felt like a downgrade too
First it was SSX Blur, people forget it but it's a real piece of shit that hurt the IP way more than 2012 did. Then it was Street Fighter X Tekken, though I grew to appreciate it more with time outside of how stupid some of its mechanics are. Now it's Babylon's Fall, I was genuinely excited for it for years and even tried to exhaust the demo's content before realizing it's one of the worst games I've ever played.
I like 3's gameplay more than 2's and even like 3's weapon lineup the most in the series but yeah the story was absolute dogshit and the level design was weak. 1 & Origins are better than 3.
Guild Wars 2. I lover the first one and preordered 2, but it was just a disappointment.
Is that a Moomin?
Yea
clearly
FFVI being released on the PSX and not the N64 for a really old one
BG3 being so shit on split-screen mode which is what I bought it for (still finished the game and think it's great, but still), most recent one
Prey 2 (the bounty hunter in space one) getting canceled because of Bethesda Softworks israelitery. Still haven't forgotten what those vermin did and probably never will.
Reminder that the game was already 80% done
Murder by Numbers.
It was constantly being advertised as "Ace Attorney x Picross" which sounded neat to me as I love both series, then I played it and hated every minute of it.
I didn't like the characters, the MC in specific I hated how she constantly accussed everyone of being guilty the moment something mildly tied them to the case, and even the puzzles I felt were lacking. Also a very minor complaint, but upon finishing a nonogram, I like looking at it and thinking what the image is before the game reveals it, but in MBN I never could do that as the solution to every puzzle was some random blob that the game then pretended was actually a clever image.
>whats been your biggest disappointment in gaming?
The average players ability to take it up the ass and keep asking for more and more.
MGSV and Tree of Savior. Never bothered having any expectations for games after those two.
Mega Man Legends 3 like OP
But also what happened to the Phantasy Star series. I don't even want them to make another game because I don't think they learned anything.
This is the only game I ever refunded. Bought $60 only to get a 3 hour long campaign, and then you're left with am embarrassingly halfbaked multiplayer game mode that only had 2 vehicles and only like 2 or 3 maps. I refunded and went back to playing Battlefront 2 on the PS2.
>cancellation of Half-Life 2: Episode 3
>Deus Ex: Invisible War
>Corpse Party: Blood Drive
Being a gamer is suffering
>that VN
The most unforgettable horror porn game I've ever played. No other game had a bunch of elementary schoolers gangbang a teenage girl against a wall. And the teenage girl loved it. No other game I've played had a 17 year old bishonen guy drink a 14 year old girl's piss and chase her down the hall to rape her, only to wind up getting anally raped by a 32 year old fat man. I still remember the scene where a 16-17 girl was hiding under a bed as her same age best friend was having sex with that same 32 year old fat guy on top. She heard every moan, bed shake and sound. In the wrong end she was discovered under the bed by her friend and made to join. A most terrifying scene was when an unwilling girl relives another girl's sex memories. The girl in the memory consented but the reliving girl didn't. It didn't matter that she was mentally screaming, her body in the memory did all the motions and actions as in history. It's like mind control rape except the victim was fully aware. Another scene the same girl and a friend were almost raped in a magic sex ritual, saved by the girl's older sister, and the backlash made the older sister want to rape her younger sister and friend.
The e-girl in this pic is freakishly lewd and once disguised herself as a teenage girl, fricked a boy until he nearly came, transformed back saying
>You thought you were having sex with a highschooler weren't you? I'm an elementary schooler all along!
And leglocks that boy, forcing him to cum inside her unprotected, when he screams in fear upon learning this. This isn't even getting into the tentacles, the gay sex, the lesbian sex, the incest, the sequel's mother/daughter lesbian scene, etc. The first chapter alone contains lots of lesbian sex scenes with an unavoidable girl jerking off in the bathroom. Truly horror is intrinsically connected with sexuality.
MGS V
Made me drop the franchise completely and I went from Kojima fanboy 101 into being really jaded and cynical about anything Kojima would create post MGS V
>Fallout 3
I was still pretty naive at the time and wasn't really aware of who Bethesda was, I was just happy to get another Fallout game. I wasn't even disappointed while playing it, the realization just came to me later after the experience had settled in.
>TOTK
Majoras Mask is my favorite childhood Zelda and I hoped that this would be similar - taking what's there and adding to it while flipping everything on its head. But boy, I really fricking hate the story direction they took here. Superfluous Mary Sue ancient race comes out of nowhere and supplants the Shiekah, the story once again already happened and you pick up the flashbacks.. and they didn't even fill the world with more quality.. pick up the korok seeds, butthole!
witnessing the decline in couch co-op fueld by corporate greed. they'd rather you buy two multi-hundred dollar gaming consoles (or pcs), a subscription to their online service and two copies of the game, rather than put time into couch co-op. frick them so much.
Breath of the wild
Gothic 3. Absolute travesty.
i think i was on Ganker to experience the legends 3 cancellation. it's been too long to be sure.
Kingdom Hearts 3. Waited 13 years. and it was dogshit.
Metal Gear Solid 4. I bought a PS3 primarily for that one fricking game. I drove out to Game Crazy at midnight to pick up the copy I preordered months in advance. And it sucked.
An invaluable lesson was learned, though. So that’s good. Never buy the hype, not even for franchises which have historically been really good.
Spore
Honestly I feel this one. Though there was no way I think they could've done what they planned both because of EA and just the tech at the time. Such a shame it was doomed from the start.
xenoblade 3 coming out as early as it did after 2 was a dead giveaway
>early
There were 5 years between 2 and 3. That's longer than the gap between 1 and X or X and 2.
X is its own thing, made by a different part of the team, so this comparison is not good
>X is its own thing, made by a different part of the team
No
>No
Yes actually, this is why Monolithsoft was on a hiring spree during the early 2010s because they were workign with other well known people. non the less about that is when I mention it, Iam talking about story wise. X story is on a way different level and tone than the original trilogy and 3 had no real chance to build on a story compared to 2 from 1. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Nothing in your post makes any sense.
>this is why Monolithsoft was on a hiring spree during the early 2010s
Monolithsoft was (and still is) hiring because they expanded to support Nintendo with other games like Zelda and Splatoon.
> Iam talking about story wise. X story is on a way different level and tone than the original trilogy
Doesn't matter. Takahashi was executive director for all of them.
>and 3 had no real chance to build on a story compared to 2 from 1
Did you even play the games? 2 has no connection to 1 (except for a few flashback frames) up until the last chapter.
It's literally the opposite.
If you check the credits for both games they share a lot of staff, just that 2 had a lot more outsourcing since they started dev while X was still going and had to rush a lot of it to get it out during the Switch's launch year.
And they also did a lot for BotW at the time.
where do you people get these ideas
look at just one section of the 2 credits
outside of 3 people everyone else is shared with x
>4.5 years
>as early as it did
Anon?
Compared to from 1 to 2 yes, that is fricking early
MGSV and it's not even close.
Most of Ganker died the night Geoff announced Kojima was not attending the game awards that December. There was no ruse, MGS V was just a bad incomplete game.
Watch Dogs
Rune Factory 5. So much good will burned with a Sonic 06 quality of a stinker.
Tears of the Kingdom. Literal copy pasted world with a frick ton of filler
Spore
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
Chained Echoes
Dragon's Dogma
FFXVI
Frontiers
Outward
Indivisible
Rain World
Trails in the Sky
Sunless Skies
Ys 9
A mix of disappointing kickstarters, sequels, and some "le hidden gem git filtered" Ganker classics. Thankfully after Spore and the more mild disappointments of Fable and Oblivion I stopped really getting hyped for AAA productions until after word of mouth gets around
I wasn't even a PC player or sim-anything enjoyer at the time but got a copy anyway because it seemed so open and creative. Spore is absolutely a milestone in game history for how much potential it squandered, and it's basically the point where people really started to see how shit EA was getting.
Spore
Spore disappointment might be a universal generational experience
This is the only time I'm ever going to admit something as gay as "I got chills". That fricking Theremin intro tune was enough to give kid me spine shivers every time. Sitting in the pitch dark of my dad's basement, illuminated only by that twirling galaxy on the monitor, spending hours in the Creature Creator.
God that game was ass. And they changed the intro song to garbled screeching or some shit.
Baldurs Gate 3, I played the early access and the beginning areas/midgame are actually very fun. The quests are very interactive and responsive to player choices. But the final area is such an unfinished pile of shit I dropped my playthrough. The game needed another 1-2 years in the oven.
>doesnt even bring up the gay and troony shit
Redditor sighted.
>he doesn't know how to mod these out
ngmi
Modding them out is like picking the corn out of a coiled turd.
Maybe if you're a whiny lil' b***h it is. To everyone else it's a simple solution to an insignificant problem.
>insignificant
>I am so numb to the degeneracy that it doesn't even bother me anymore
>it takes literally seconds to fix these minor issues but I'm gonna endlessly REEEEEEE about them regardless
Find more valuable things to spend your limited time on, you tool. Trannery in vidya is a symptom, not a root problem. Peeing your pants over it is misplaced indignation.
>getting mad at the itchy boils on your dick is stupid, get mad at the syphilis causing them instead!
How about
hold on
how about I just not get syphilis, because I'm not moronic and not a homosexual
I mean judging by your posts you are both but okay. And yes, you are a fricking moron if you waste your time lancing your boils instead of procuring antibiotics to kill the bacterium responsible for the syphilis in the first place (if you know what I mean).
The only gay/troony shit you are forced to interact with for quest reasons is that circus owner in act 3. Which is one of the reasons I dropped the game actually. That whole sidequest is so fricking low quality compared to everything in act 1/2. So the troony is a necromancer or something, and the clown is missing, and I'm supposed to figure out if the clown is dead or not or whatever, so I find the dismembered clown torso and bring it to her thinking I'll get some new dialogue at the very fricking least. But no, it's "uhh no sorry i didn't find anything" and I'm carrying the guys bloody torso in my magic fricking bag of holding. Obviously the angle they were going for is "player finds all body parts, brings them to troony, troony resurrects clown" but they didn't even have new dialogue to fricking register that I found a body part of the person that I am explicitly trying to find out what happened to. The writing for act 3 is SHIT.
Sorry I replied to that other post before I saw your leftist meme, but go frick yourself.
I think they couldn't decide whether they wanted this game to be replayable and landed in an awkward middle ground. There are some quests that are choice-heavy or optional, co-op more or less demands seperate playthroughs, and there's the whole dark urge thing. But then they make the game so long and bloated that the idea of repeating it all is actually painful.
I got caught in the scenario where my co-op buddies got bored and ditched in act 2, so I started up another playthrough and then got burnt out myself after not very long. I'm guessing a lot of people had this happen
Spore
Mass Effect 1 and Twilight Princess. Still good games but not nearly as great as I'd hoped they would be, they taught me to tone down my expectations. Never been hyped for a game that turned out to be shit thankfully, even Zero Time Dilemma I had a good time with if not in the way I expected.
I'm still mad 30 years later that they had an almost completed port of Eye of Beholder for Atari Lynx that they just never bothered to release.
I haven't been excited for a game since around 2015.
It has spared me a lot of grief that I always expect the absolute worst. Most of the time I'm right, very rarely I'm pleasantly surprised.
FF7 “Remake” told me everything I wanted to hear, just to lure me into a back alley and fricking molest me.
It would have been better for us if the game were complete garbage. Instead, we get a tantalizing taste of actual SOVL that's ruined by a few bad choices, and we're left to imagine the great game that could have been
>Xenoblade 3
I’m happy I’m not the only one who was letdown. I hear the DLC gave people what they wanted, but the base game was just a 7/10 when people expected a 10/10
Guild Wars 2.
Based on platforms I played them on,
>Nintendo
Breath of the Wild
Animal Crossing New Horizons
Octopath Traveler
No More Heroes 3 (least disappointing of these, but still was)
Hyrule Warriors AoC
>PlayStation
Last Guardian (don’t dislike but holy shit)
Little Big Planet 3
Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2
Dark Souls III (before DLC)
Armored Core V
Bayonetta (ON PS3, this version fricking sucked lmao. Better on other platforms)
Gran Turismo 5 and 6
>PC
I could fit a lot, but some I remember right now
Civ 6
Halo infinite
Rollercoaster tycoon 2016
Half Life Alyx
World of Warcraft Warlords of Draenor
Diablo 3
Diablo 4 (only played the beta)
Fallout 3
Fallout 4
Starfield
ESO
The Outer Worlds
SMT x Fire Emblem getting turned into idolshit
don't even fricking remind me
I bought a fricking Wii U for it
The new direction Zelda is taking. It's making them too much money so they'll keep doing it
dark souls 3
after spending half a decade playing souls that game absolutely shat on everything i liked about the series
Still mad about Guild Wars 2 dropping the skill system from 1
I could forgive everything else but they just decided to throw away what made the game unique to be a themepark
>whats been your biggest disappointment in gaming?
Castlevania failing to further refine what worked and instead fading into obscurity.
>Heroes 3 canceling Forge city and leaving mm8 story forever without resolution
>I am Setsuna being hyped as Chrono Trigger successor and it was just a crappy indie game
>Ys IX being shit after Ys VIII that is an jrpg of decade
I will be salty until the day I die. I bet none of you even remember.
>Xenoblade 3
What didn’t you like about it?
Guild Wars 2
Gothic 3
GTA IV
Played these quite a bit after the initial disappointment but they never hit the spot like their predecessors
Dawn of War 3
Company of Heroes 2
Never played them despite loving their predecessors because they look bad
Golden Sun DS
Would be better if it had never come out
In recent memory, Shadow Gambit. Even if you removed all the "woke" shit, it was still a downgrade compared to Mimimi's previous games. Too many bite sized maps, which don't play well to the dev's strengths at all. It's way too easy even on the highest difficulty and limiting saves. They went too far in making an entry level game to the genre. Desperados 3 was also meant to be beginner friendly but I guess morons thought it was still too hard for them.
