fine if youre going for a tank build because youre right there close to the enemy anyways but for most dps scenarios youre better off with a ranged magic or physical build so you dont get hit by the enemies attacks

The melee scene is essentially "dead". All the really good players have left and while there is new players joining the scene they are notably much worse. This is leading players like Axe and AMSA to win tourneys despite them being 10th placers. The games views have plummeted as well thanks to this and no mainstage streams leading to the point where its on life support. Still fun game to play even if its stinky
Axe fluked out in one tournament and then imminently returned to being a consistent 7-8th placer. Amsa legit got insanely good and earned many wins against guys he used to get bodied by. It has no bearing on the quality of the scene.

If you truly think that than you're terminally ill. Armada and peak Hungrybox would literally shit on them so hard they would never play agian. They are really good 3-7th placers but are only in the top 2 spots since everyone better than them has either retired or has fell off a cliff

Amsa moved to North america and improved significantly faster as a result. You can't write off wins against Zain, Mango, iBDW and Jmook as flukes.

Axe hasn't won shit since Summit 8, the views have been good crossing 50k in recent tournaments in grands and tourneys have had no trouble getting sponsors, and Mainstage had streams and many viewers, it just didn't have as many streams as it should have had.

I haven't been keeping up either. I just don't see myself caring about anything Melee relater after AMSA won Big House. It really felt like an end for me. Furthermore, while I do respect Zain and Cody's talent I find them to be very uninteresting players/people.
Melee is the only live with some semblance of life left in it. I think it's over for competitive smash, not even the new one will revive it.

Most of the interesting players either quit or are washed up now. The new top players are boring. The E-sports around Smash in general is also dying pretty quickly so new players getting sponsored is pretty unlikely. Was good while it lasted but nothing lasts forever.
I stopped watching when IBDW started winning. Fox mains are boring enough as is, but the fact that he abuses adderall to win was too much for me.

The scene became too "esports". The scene was so desperate for something resembling the MLG era where everything is treated like a sports event that when they got it, they expected it to always be that way but that's not how things work. Every top player wanted to be able to live off of smash with some people outright demanding Nintendo get involved the same way Capcom does with Street Fighter but anyone with a brain would realize that's not feasible. So when things started winding down it gave people a sense that the scene is dying when it's just actually reverting to how it was pre-doc/EVO, the only difference is the gods aren't there anymore to generate hype but new blood could easily fix that, and they ARE out there. Problem with that is there's no motivation or incentive for players to come out when slippi exists which leads to my next point, the scene "died" when players stopped competing for the glory and bragging rights and instead expected big prize pools and travel expenses covered by sponsors. If the view and attendee count are going to reduce (and they have) then they need to go back to doing events in hotels and smaller venues.

It’s been dying because most new players have no personality, which is what kept the scene afloat for years. 99% of new top players are M2K with all the likability sucked out, just awkward and quiet.
2023 was such a shit year for smash as a whole i basically stopped watching. ultimate is dying with how garbage the meta is (steve/game and watch/sonic). melee has potential to pick up the scraps if the TOs and players get their shit together.
I hope rivals 2 breathes live into the scene in 2024
