fine if youre going for a tank build because youre right there close to the enemy anyways but for most dps scenarios youre better off with a ranged magic or physical build so you dont get hit by the enemies attacks
The melee scene is essentially "dead". All the really good players have left and while there is new players joining the scene they are notably much worse. This is leading players like Axe and AMSA to win tourneys despite them being 10th placers. The games views have plummeted as well thanks to this and no mainstage streams leading to the point where its on life support. Still fun game to play even if its stinky
Axe fluked out in one tournament and then imminently returned to being a consistent 7-8th placer. Amsa legit got insanely good and earned many wins against guys he used to get bodied by. It has no bearing on the quality of the scene.
>The guy who's been seen as on the cusp of winning for a long time finally clutched one out >The guy who's been single handedly dragging his character from the bottom tiers upward got good enough to consistently beat the best
Zain and Cody aren't worse than the old top tier guys, if anything they've actually pushed it to new heights. Go ask Mang0 if he thinks they're worse than the old Gods.
>Cusp of winning after all the good players left... yes >All the best left thats why he can now win tourneys
Were you born moronic? Zain and Cody are both good, they were not peak 5 god levels of good. Mang0 is a washed up boomer with very well known shit takes. Please dont type ever again
Zain and Cody are both just as good if not better than the 5 Gods era and if you can't recongize that then you just don't know Melee.
What ever happened to Mew2King?
Burnt out on competitive play and is just a generic semi-occasional streamer now.

If you truly think that than you're terminally ill. Armada and peak Hungrybox would literally shit on them so hard they would never play agian. They are really good 3-7th placers but are only in the top 2 spots since everyone better than them has either retired or has fell off a cliff >Armada, HBox, PPMD, Leffen, Mang0, Mew2King(arguable), Plup
This isnt even subjective this is LITERALLY objective facts

Well, objectively, every top Melee player including all of the guys you listed (except maybe Leffen) would say the new guys are better so you're just wrong.
This anon is saying a bunch of random things that aren't correct but melee is definitely hurting, in large part because of Nintendo putting out new shitty rules for tournaments involving their games.
Axe hasn't won shit since Summit 8, the views have been good crossing 50k in recent tournaments in grands and tourneys have had no trouble getting sponsors, and Mainstage had streams and many viewers, it just didn't have as many streams as it should have had.
>Hax$ flew to Sweden and posted pictures of the tickets, hasn't been heard from since >Mango has an onlyfans and IBDW's "girlfriend" is going to be on it according to both of them >Hungrybox has gained 100+ pounds, visibly way bigger than usual >PPMD is going full paypig rancher, going on cruise to Thailand with his top stream donors >Ludwig hosting a boxing stream where Scar will fight a r/ssbm mod who spammed shit about IBDW's "girlfriend" >s2j was arrested for mushrooms and unregistered firearms in Pomona
I haven't been keeping up either. I just don't see myself caring about anything Melee relater after AMSA won Big House. It really felt like an end for me. Furthermore, while I do respect Zain and Cody's talent I find them to be very uninteresting players/people.
Most of the interesting players either quit or are washed up now. The new top players are boring. The E-sports around Smash in general is also dying pretty quickly so new players getting sponsored is pretty unlikely. Was good while it lasted but nothing lasts forever.
The new blood is just as good, people are just being nostalgiagays and not realizing that the five Gods stood out because everyone around them was trash
Because M2K and Armada had such WILD personalities, right?
>armada calling puff gay on camera >armada cheesing out hbox with young link
Seriously? And if you dont think m2k was entertaining in his autism, you have no soul

M2K's autism being a positive is a modern rewriting of history. Everyone hated him back in the day

but if you were just a random melee autist then m2k coming to your obscure local to take your lunch money was totally rad
>the documentary/EVO blew up the scene >brought in tons of new players and exposure >sponsors started showing up >bigger venues, bigger prizepools
The scene became too "esports". The scene was so desperate for something resembling the MLG era where everything is treated like a sports event that when they got it, they expected it to always be that way but that's not how things work. Every top player wanted to be able to live off of smash with some people outright demanding Nintendo get involved the same way Capcom does with Street Fighter but anyone with a brain would realize that's not feasible. So when things started winding down it gave people a sense that the scene is dying when it's just actually reverting to how it was pre-doc/EVO, the only difference is the gods aren't there anymore to generate hype but new blood could easily fix that, and they ARE out there. Problem with that is there's no motivation or incentive for players to come out when slippi exists which leads to my next point, the scene "died" when players stopped competing for the glory and bragging rights and instead expected big prize pools and travel expenses covered by sponsors. If the view and attendee count are going to reduce (and they have) then they need to go back to doing events in hotels and smaller venues.
It’s been dying because most new players have no personality, which is what kept the scene afloat for years. 99% of new top players are M2K with all the likability sucked out, just awkward and quiet.
2023 was such a shit year for smash as a whole i basically stopped watching. ultimate is dying with how garbage the meta is (steve/game and watch/sonic). melee has potential to pick up the scraps if the TOs and players get their shit together.
I hope rivals 2 breathes live into the scene in 2024

magic > melee
Last time i checked melee stuff zain retired and everyone still hates ibdw/cody, oh and she/they hell.
marthbros…
Zain didn't retire, he was trolling
The scene is in pronoun hell though that's correct
Probably obscene amounts of grooming and a rank odor.
No threads for months. Maybe the stench killed them all

I love AMSA but come on man

Amsa moved to North america and improved significantly faster as a result. You can't write off wins against Zain, Mango, iBDW and Jmook as flukes.
This anon is saying a bunch of random things that aren't correct but melee is definitely hurting, in large part because of Nintendo putting out new shitty rules for tournaments involving their games.
Literally everything I said is correct and other anons have corroborated, please explain whats wrong

Why can't Johnny choose the less risky play for once in his fricking life
>Scar will fight a r/ssbm mod who spammed shit about IBDW's "girlfriend"
Funny if true.
People got old.
There's no charisma in the new blood.
Woke era constantly reminding us to be woke.
Just remember the good times.
Nothing would've happened if you guys had never conspired against big leff. Now pay the price
Leff being winning guilty gear is honestly pretty based even if the guy is an ass
It's dead but it still outlived the Smash Bros that came after it.
I haven't been keeping up either. I just don't see myself caring about anything Melee relater after AMSA won Big House. It really felt like an end for me. Furthermore, while I do respect Zain and Cody's talent I find them to be very uninteresting players/people.
Melee is the only live with some semblance of life left in it. I think it's over for competitive smash, not even the new one will revive it.
Nah the new one will revive it for a bit then die again slowly, is the cycle
Most of the interesting players either quit or are washed up now. The new top players are boring. The E-sports around Smash in general is also dying pretty quickly so new players getting sponsored is pretty unlikely. Was good while it lasted but nothing lasts forever.
I stopped watching when IBDW started winning. Fox mains are boring enough as is, but the fact that he abuses adderall to win was too much for me.
Don't forget that he uses a modified controller to make ledge dashes easier. Fricking hate that guy
Is Slippi ranked still paylocked by the israelite?
yes. My guess is it will probably stay that way since running the servers apparently costs him a lot of money,
What ever happened to Mew2King?
Melee died when Armada retired
>Melee died when Armada retired
*ran
Why isn't the new blood as good? Its pretty normal in other games for new players to surpass the old.
They're toothless, sanitized, and generic people
The new blood is just as good, people are just being nostalgiagays and not realizing that the five Gods stood out because everyone around them was trash
They are skilled but lack personality. Why not just livestreams or videos of some autist at that point.
Because M2K and Armada had such WILD personalities, right?
Unironically yes

>they need to go back to doing events in hotels and smaller venues.
Only the absolute realest of homies like BBB are going to be left in the scene after 1-2 years and it's going to be cool
Whats my homie Shroomed been up to?
him and s2j are basically part time melee since they have real jobs now
2018 armada and m2k would beat zain, ibdw, jmook, and any of these other new homosexuals in doubles

Literally all Ultimate had to do to survive was ban Steve and Kazuya.
ultimate is probably too international to ever have an effective ban on a character.
I stopped watching the second they started putting pronouns on screen full time

OUR HEROES
melee died/is dying a slow death ever since M2K/armada retired
It's still going strong, Genesis 10 is coming up in about a month.
