We're old but not the way you think. I was bored shitless by GTA5 and I think it's because I'd spent the previous 20 years playing them. At some point you've seen enough, it's tired and no longer funny. It's the exact same shit over and over.
I considered that too but really Trevor is unique in the GTA world in terms of his grimy behavior. So maybe it's a bit of both. Usually you just get betrayed in the games or get petty revenge from cartoony villains. But he was like brainwashing people, doing the meth racket, looked like he hadn't taken a shower in months, had the audacity to act like he had a code. He was over the top but also it seemed like the narrative really tried hard to get you to sympathize with a slovenly psychopath which I felt was crossing a line. It wasn't that he didn't have one admirable quality like previous GTA characters, it was more that he had a bunch of absolutely repugnant ones and the game really wanted you to see him as a hero.
The only reason I'm interested in 6 is because of them taking Florida out beyond Miami. It looks like they'll hit Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach/Nasa.
5 I only played due to the First Person All the Time mode that the PC version got (and then the "next gen" console versions stole), which was neat but I couldn't get into the story or campaign beyond Trevor's SO WACKY XD personality that was... charming... in a way.

Rockstar has gotten better about it. John's VA was happy to come back for RDR2, and like others have said: The RDR2 cast all described it as a good experience. Jason and Lucia's actors most likely know what they're getting into because they're likely both twenty to thirty somethings who have a better understanding compared to someone like Ogg.
RDR was also made in a different studio plus the game isn't nearly as big as the GTA series. No one's following John's VA and harassing him daily about it.

Yeah that’s pretty steady and consistent work, which honestly most actors would kill for, but the impression I get is that all the roles he’s ending up booking in the last ten years have all been relatively similar to the “creepy crazy weirdo” archetype he played as Trevor. Maybe when he was dreaming about acting as a kid he hoped for more variety. With work consistency that stable it easily puts him in the top 10% of working actors, but I could still understand how a person could be disappointed by that if they were hoping for something more out of their careers
