There isn't a single competent Western AAA dev studio on Earth. Even some AA studios are struggling with the competency crisis. Your only options for good games are a) old games, b) Japanese games, c) indie games, or d) some combination of the aforementioned.

2024 has had dogshit. By this time in 2023 we had Hi-Fi Rush, Pizza Tower, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Octopath Travelers II, all of which were better than everything we've gotten in 2024 thus far. If you want to count the above average titles too, you've got Fire Emblem Engage, RE4 Remake, Hogwart's Legacy, and Atomic Heart. Again, all by this time last year.

Fortunately, Starbreeze is comically inept so it ended up hooking in no one. You don't lose 99% of players in just a couple months by being proficient at your craft, after all.
Games as a Service shit means that a game will get more updates the longer it goes in theory however the payday-devs now wanted more money which means another game is in order, issues is that releasing sequels to games usually meant that you were getting an upgrade from the previous games
Now the devs just noticed they can't just started the whole dripfeed bullshit since the gamers WON'T start giving them money for the same game with less content hopefully
This is something new devs will have to dealt with since the ServiceGames model isn't a good thing when you are gonna release sequels which has even less crap to do than the previous games with 10 years+ updates

What reasons are there aside from the lack of content that have people shitting on PD3 so much?
I also heard that there isn't an open lobby system like there was in PD2 and that you have to search an individual heist+difficulty and hope that someone is hosting it. MHRise had the same problem (alongside region locking) and that was my biggest complaint about the game
I think what most people thought we were getting was payday 2 but leaning more into the fast paced action after switching to a less fricking garbage engine that could let the game's concept get closer to its full potential and what we got was 10 second passive buff simulator
all the improvements to make lockpicking, casing/stealth, etc less boring and shit fall flat when the skills are rather milquetoast and progression went all in on the annoying achievement hunting gimmick
general ui and qol issues that have no right to exist in the third installment of the series they've had going for over a decade doesn't help either
No offline, little content, overpriced dlc, progression and other systems generally considered worse than 2's, having a cheaper and better alternative out there, slow on the updates, knowing that a lot of worse decisions came from the higher ups and not the devs, complains about ui are there too, worse social features than 2
all the mistakes probably came from the devs and the ceo actually was probably one who said nothing at all. the game is incongruous so you'll load up in the game and forget what a horrid menu you just had to navigate a moment before it. the slowness of updates is actually a sign that there must be no communication to the higher ups and each team works completely independent with lack of direction
The fact that people discovered CrimeNet and Play Solo (Offline) was discovered as being in the game files was pretty damning
Also the fact they started to sell the pre-order bonus exclusive stuff about one month after the game released
Maybe the fact Payday 2 had more variety and content on release and also got updated with a new heist every month during its first year of life, whereas Payday 3 has very similar heists with the same objectives and less overall variety
For me it's the fact they didn't include the Locomotive 12G shotgun, which was basically one of the weapon mascots of the game and they somehow "forgot" to include it, obviously to sell it back to you later
The servers being shitty didn't help, and the fact the first DLC pack is called "Syntax Error" is icing on the cake
Also the DLC is broken down into multiple pieces, back in Payday 2 you'd get new weapons, new heists, new masks, new materials, new attachments, sometimes new heisters + decks, in a single main DLC pack
Instead each main DLC is just broken down into multiple pieces, selling you everything individually now, which is pretty scummy, sure you can only buy the "good" stuff, but that's not the point, less ain't more in this case
Oh and they tried to release a few extra heists but they were just OG heists from Payday 2 but much worse with the new mechanics and samey gameplay from the 3
Also the gameplay is kinda fricked and not in a good way, with the shitty Rush / Edge / Grit system acting like temporary power ups instead of just passive skills you can mix and match to make an interesting build
Also XP is tied to challenges, including challenges which want you to beat a map 300 times and then 300 more times in stealth or whatever, which is mind numbingly moronic and pretty much only exists to sell DLC (new heists = easy, low level challenges = level up faster / easier compared to grinding another challenge from I through to X

In order to start a game you have to pick a heist and difficulty. Seems alright so far, right? It's not. There were 8 heists and 3 difficulties. That's 24 queues and you have to guess which one is populated right now in order to play. Even right after the release at best you had to wait 5-10 minutes to populate a lobby. Nowadays, with 500 online you won't be able to play with anyone.
Not even PISS, SHIT and CUM or crappy armor changes made the game bleed players as much as lack of server browser.
