But an actual in depth answer is that the contract/rights to have edios or whoever expired and squeenix at the time did not see the value in renewing the contract.
Even if the 3rd game managed to break even, getting a 4th one made would demand them to invest a higher budget into the devs, which becomes a risk cause game 3 under performed and barely generated interest amongst normies.
God I hope the next game is at least as good as the other reboot games and doesn't go the lesbian route rumors have been talking about. I can't think of any canonically straight female protags in modern games.Also I hope she has her guns again, I liked the reboot but holy shit bows are such a boring weapon and I always just end up running around with a shotgun anyway.
