What's on your Halloween Games list?
This year i'm going to be playing
Silent Hill
Medievil
Medievil 2
Evil Dead: Regeneration
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge
Zombies Ate My Neighbors!
I know only one of those games could be considered scary, but i'm more into the atmosphere than the actual horror.

ALIEN RESURRECTION
THE GAME
I think trying to keep up with Halloween games is too much to ask for me. I'm going to try and do Medievil Resurrection since I've never played it, and I'm sure it'll piss me off enough to not play another game for at least a week, so that's a lot of lost time right there.
Focusing on movies, books, and comics seems more reasonable to me.
>comics and movies
yeah no time wasted there, bud
I didn't say anything about "wasting" time.
Well, I can say that Resurrection did, indeed, piss me off. It was so much worse than I ever expected. I’m stopping after the Stained Glass Demon and switching to the original so I can at least cleanse me palate.
What a fricking disaster of a game.
It doesn't get much better from there, it's just full of dogshit reinventions, minigames and changes the whole tone of the humour. The new art style is so ugly by comparison as well, none of the quaint quality of the original.
Every single line of dialogue attempting to be funny was grating. When the genie who lives in Dan’s head, which someone apparently thought was a good idea, made a Britney Spears joke I felt pretty resolute in moving.
Yeah it's shit, waste of Tom Baker as a VA too. The thing that works about the original is that the world it takes place in isn't 100% quirky, it's eccentric but they did a good job of making it feel like danger and horror was lurking in Gallowmere, it was cartoony but it had atmosphere and detail. I wouldn't say the original is 'scary' but they definitely got the quaint element of spookiness right, especially with things like the shadow demons.
I kind of want to play the PS1 and Dreamcast era Evil Dead games.
i can tell you the evil dead ps1 game is infuriating. Imagine trying to play through a level where the enemies are constantly respawning non-stop.
I don't want to say i got filtered but...i totally got filtered.
me personally, Fear Effect and Dino Crisis. And Ape Escape because frick you
can i just say, i didn't hate the 360 version of this game as much as critics did...especially considering it included all the old games as unlockables. That shit was badass.
And the sequel.
Blood Omen
Soul Reaver
MediEvil
Resident Evil
Silent Hill
The first Resident Evil is more of a summer game to me. One of the few horror titles that takes place in July.
>The first Resident Evil is more of a summer game to me. One of the few horror titles that takes place in July.
And thats why i play the first resident evil in mostly summer, while resident evil 2 and resident evil 3 mostly in september and october.
I'm currently on the first castelvania.
Then maybe I'll move on to Haunting Ground or Rule of Rose
Not retro, but I did startup Little nightmares the other day. fun little game so far
Been replaying Fatal Frame 2. It's not as good as I remember. The character models still look great but the interiors of the levels are hard to parce between each other.
I need to play 2 and 3 yet. Might be a good time to do it now. I played the none retro ones recently but I didn't enjoy them as much as the original
NO CONTEST
used to play it on my 386, it gets pretty difficult
The other Dangerous Dave games were bretty good too.
Super 3D Noah's Ark
Saints of Virtue
Catechumen
Taste my steel Godless heathens
Nosferatu: Wrath of Malahi. Fists only run for maximum comfiness.
I like this game a lot but I never have any idea what I’m doing the whole time
>I never have any idea what I’m doing the whole time
It can seem overwhelming at times, but base idea is to stake vampires till they die, close portals with pistol/rifle, flail cross at ghosts, guide relatives to courtyard to get ammo + keys to new areas, and ignore weapons that eat stamina like crazy.
Nice!
Nosferatu WoM is a janky but fun little FPS.
The route through the inside of the castle is slightly randomized which helps to keep runs fresh.
I’ve never done a fist only run maybe I’ll give that a go this Halloween.
>I’ve never done a fist only run maybe I’ll give that a go this Halloween.
Just remember to not attempt that at hardest difficulty. It's viable but rage inducing especially due to bosses sponginess. Frickers can be visibly pierced by 10+ stakes after several beatdowns and still zoom around like nothing.
needs more quake 1 from 1996
Started playing Diablo 1 PS1 version
Will probably replay Medievil 1 and 2
Also finally finish Silent Hill
Did Diablo on the original Playstation do anything differently? Like maybe not Doom 64 levels of different, but y'know?
It added a turbo mode and shared screen coop, otherwise it's the same as the PC version.
Luigi’s Mansion and Silent Hill 2. I’m very basic :/
Did the Great Darmani's ghost ever turn up in Luigi's Mansion?
Ghouls'n'Ghosts
Medievil
Ghost Master/Dead Rising, even though I know the games in and out.
I need to finally play the god damn Clock tower, been planning to do it for ages.
Are there any Halloween RPGs, or any other non action/survival horror genre? Carmageddon doesn't count and neither does Castlevania.
>Halloween RPGs
Not sure if retro (probably not) but there's Costume Quest 1 and 2
Closest thing to a Halloween rpg is secret of evermore. You get the light sci-fi/ thriller with tons of costume changes.
>tons of costume changes
That’s one way to look at it. I always liked the twisted tales of spike mchomosexualBlack person for a quirky fun Halloween game
Spike strikes me as the kinda Halloween kid who’s circumcised
Legacy: Realm of Terror
Sweet Home
Veil of Darkness
If you can read Moonrunes, there are several more.
Check out LaPlace’s Demon for Super Famicom. There’s an English translation.
It’s a JRPG set in a small town like Arkham in Massachusetts.
The first part of the game you investigate a murder in a haunted house and you’re fighting traditional type horror enemies.
The second part of the game goes full medieval fantasy where you fight knights and lepreachauns who can steal your money.
And then unfortunately the very last part is brief but that’s where you fight all the H P Lovecraft inspired cosmic horrors.
It’s not great. But it’s aight.
>Halloween RPGs
Sweet Home might count.
>any Halloween RPGs
Koudelka is a Resident evil clone but with Rpg turn based combat and elements
You're exploring an old monastery and irt feels like survival horror, there's no towns no npc to talk, not even shops, the only way to get potions or weapon is to find them while exploring or getting an enemy drop.
Shadow Hearts is it sequel and keeps the horror atmosphere but drops the survival horror gameplay to focus more on making it a more traditional Rpg
there's also a super famicom game called Leplace demon and SMT on the snes or Psx can be considered horror rpg due to it aesthetic and design
Clock Tower is fun from what I played if you're talking about the SNES game
Haunting Ground
Silent Hill 2 and 3
non /vr/ Fatal Frame 4 and 5
If you want to play also other games during this period then try Pumpkin Jack which is not that long, 5 hours will fit
Already played:
>Dead of the Brain (PC88 visual novel)
Currently playing:
>Mirrors (PC88 visual novel)
Going to play:
>Bad Day on the Midway
>9: The Last Resort (not sure if horror, but seems pretty weird)
>Condemned 2
Also OP makes me want to play Medieval.
Resident Evil: Director's Cut
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines
Medievil
Devil May Cry 1
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge
Dino Crisis
Resident Evil: Survivor (Frick you, I liked it!)
The House of the Dead
CarnEvil (it was even released on October 31st originally!)
The last two will be played via MAME
Pic related
>The House of the Dead
How do these games play when emulated? Weren't they originally light gun shooter games? I can see the Wiimote working well for this sort of thing.
Based Carnevil for giving me childhood nightmares. I still played it whenever I got a chance lol
Why would an observant gamer have a halloween games list?
I don't understand why you people feel this impulse to coordinate your game choices with normische holidays/social events.
We have our traditions and they have theirs.
This board is full of non-devout gamenites and it's disgusting. Best we not associate ourselves too closely with them and lose our place in Playhalla, brother.
I thought following a theme this Halloween would be fun.
What other holidays are there? Christmas games are usually not great, Christmas-themed expansions aside. And that's kind of it.
I like to watch spooky movies and read scary stories this time of year. Why wouldn't I also want to play some spooky games to boot?
I have good memories about the holidays with my family (parents and siblings) and want to build good memories with my family (wife and children).
Just as I did as a kid, I spend most of the holidays with my family, but if I find some time for video games when others are asleep or otherwise occupied, I like playing something special that fits the mood.
Not everyone on this thread is a dweeb who wants to detach themselves from everything normal.
In retrospect, my twenties when my life revolved around video games, drugs and partying were the worst years of my life with the least good memories and most regrets.
>NOOOOOO YOU CAN'T OBSERVE THE PASSING OF THE SEASONS
Normies also breathe air and eat food, should we give that up too you gigantic homosexual?
>Mr. Bones
Damn, this is what I actually need to play on Halloween, thanks, anon.
>AitD
Why this one? I've only played the first one.
It looks like a list of Saturn games. Kind of a bad rec since the game has weird textures on consoles.
>Medievil 2
Is it as bad as they say? Loved the first one when I was younger.
It's not bad it's just not as good as the first.
It's at least worth trying. There's a lot of charming stuff about it and I like the concept for some of the levels. I wouldn't want to get too specific about the negatives to someone who hasn't played it yet and color their experience.
Simpsons Hit and Run
That's mostly only towards the end though, isn't it? I like how the menu screen does get spooky if your system is set to October 31st, though. What other games did/do this? Fallout 4 isn't retro but Diamond City actually gets a few Christmas lights put up on Dec 24 or 25, and it's such a small specific thing I'm sure most people miss out on
Tyrian 2000 has a Christmas mode playing on December that changes some of the projectiles to be Christmas-themed and the ship AI's voice into Santa.
Yesterday I bought Forbidden siren 2 (PS2) and AITD:TNM (PS2), this last one looks ver resident evil-y, but my PS2 doesn't read fs2 copy
man I'm a few hours into silent hill and I had to use google twice already. should I keep playing if I'm too much of a dumbass to figure out these puzzles?
Yeah you're moronic.
ffrigg off
Playing Koudelka and Castlevania Lament of Innocense right now
thinking in playing Shadow Hearts after i beat Koudelka
i also play
Ghouls'n Ghost
Ghostbusters
Splatterhouse 2
Castlevania Bloodlines
Every year in october. It's kinda my tradition now
MediEvil turns 25 years old today. I'll give it another run soon.
That's it, I'm playing it tonight.
here is a decent list of Halloween games: https://www.mobygames.com/game/group:10848/until:2005/sort:-added/page:1/
