They're probably finding ways to shuffle used cards back into the deck and then draw them again on the same turn.

There are cards that recycle other cards from your graveyard, such as The Warrior Returned Alive or Monster Reincarnation.

Any card that is not limited by list of forbidden cards can be in the same deck in quantities of up to 3. If your cognitive ability to count is described as "1, 2, many", then this is your fault.

Maxx C is a card you can play from hand that draws you a card whenever your opponent special summons a monster. Since most of modern YGH is about putting your deck into your graveyard for easier summoning/targeting and constantly bouncing special summons to get your extra deck monsters out, this is usually a deterrant because if your opponent doesn't win in one turn, they've just given you a bunch of free cards and you're at a huge advantage. But if you just keep bouncing cards and special summoning, you can technically just deck out your opponent and make them take fatigue damage, which is what happens.

                >so this can't be done in a real game
Is blatantly false. Which specific card enables all this infinite engine turn 1 win style gameplay doesn't matter, you can still do it through countless other means.

If that's the case then Yugioh has been busted deck vomit from the word go. The first format was an Exodia FTK format and Magical Scientist burn wasn't long after. Yes there are lots of huge combo decks but synchrons as a strategy haven't been good in ages. And realistically modern combo decks actually play pretty low to the ground. See something like Vanquish Soul that only summons a few times a turn but wins through constant searching and destruction. This kind of "WOOOOOWWWW THE OPPONENT JUST COMBOS FOREVER I'M NOT EVEN PRESSING BUTTONS" complaints are better leveled at 2018-era Yugioh which was dominated by Firewall Dragon FTKs (No longer legal either).

Before they were limited the chance of a turn 1 win was .037% if you had 3 of each part in your 40 card deck (1 in 2708).

How can the chances be changed when you need one of each card anyway? If you draw an entire hand of exodia pieces and it’s dupes that might as well be different cards to begin with. Think you need to recheck your math

      >Worked surprisingly well.

      >In cases where I was stuck in the middle, I could just chunk a leg out or something and stall for time
      >Ran into other guy I knew from high school at the local card shop
      >He never once in his life beat me.
      >We play.
      >Beat him round 1.
      >"Good game man. Hey, mind if I look through your deck?"

      >He starts going through it.
      >Smile is slowly wiped off his face in real time
      >Gets towards the end
      >"Aw HELL naw, I did NOT just get beat by this piece of trash. WE GOIN' AGAIN RIGHT NOW."
      >Play him again.
      >This is the closest he's ever gotten. I'm literally 1 attack away.

if you go first you have 35 cards left in your deck, and if the bottom one is part of exodia you lose from deck out before exodia goes off I think.

      Anonymous

You wouldn't deck out, you can't activate pot of greed with only 1 card left in deck. The game requires you to be able to both pay cost and resolve effects in order to activate cards. This also has some odd interactions, like how you can't activate Pot of Avarice with only 1 card left in deck, despite the fact that the card returns 5 cards from graveyard to deck before drawing.

so yeah, if you most likely lose if you bottom deck a piece. At least I assume modern yugioh decks should be able to do a full life total when completely unopposed

          Anonymous

99% of decks, yeah, assuming they haven't bricked. Some decks can even set up combos on turn 1 that would destroy this strategy, like there are decks that can ensure this card is set on turn 1, and they would just flip it immediately before you could activate any spells.

You still win next turn when you draw the last piece, you lose on trying to draw without anything in deck not on having an empty deck.

it was probably more broken then than now tbh. At a single copy it’s not like it would make or break any FTKs and all the modern meta decks are mega consistent anyways, while older formats your resources (in hand) matter more than some sort of limited engine resource and resolving one of the FUN cards could instantly swing the game in your favor

      That's intentional.
They make bullshit cards, let them stomp for a bit, then ban them and make more bullshit cards, let them stomp for a bit, then ban them.
If they're feeling sneaky they will make bullshit cards that require old shit cards to stomp and then ban the old shit cards to achieve the same effect without it being blatantly obvious they're just money hungry israelites.

Every card game does this and it's unironically a good thing. A Magic the Gathering designer put it best; if you never make a card that's worth banning you also never take the kind of design risks that are necessary to create interesting cards.

Using Pot of Greed, you couldn't lose by deck out until your next draw phase or you were forced to draw a card by the opponent, so it wouldn't be turn 1. You can't activate Pot of Greed if you don't have at least two cards left in your deck.

      Anonymous

      >Toon world
No, but it did have a stint of playability. Against some decks Toon Kingdom is a huge b***h though.
      >Blue Eyes
The deck won Worlds in 2016 but has largely been left behind. It still sees some play as a rogue strategy.
      >Dark Magician
Not as bad as toons but still a rogue strategy at best. Has gotten some really unbelievable modern support but having to actually play The Dark Magician as your central card hurts it. Can set up a pseudo-lock with Eternal Soul (Prevents cards named Dark Magician from being effected by other cards) and Dark Magician the Dragon Knight (Prevents spell/trap cards from being destroyed, is Dark Magician).

Believe it or not Konami constantly releases new cards for boomer strategies. Gate Guardian and Flame Swordsman just got modern support, and the official simulator has Dark Magician and Blue Eyes structure decks.

        Anonymous

Dark magician has some of the most custom fricking cards ever printed and it still sucks because a lot of their game plan requires multi-part set up for soul + circle.

          Anonymous

Yup. The worst thing about Dark Magician is that you have to play Dark Magician. And more than that your whole strategy revolves around searching and repeatedly summoning a level 7 normal monster. Just look at how SPYRAL abuses Magician's Souls to see how these cards would look like in a competent strategy.

            very simple
            1600/1000>2/2

            Anonymous

That seems like the least confusing thing there would be. I don't know how you would do resources, or a lack thereof, since yugioh doesn't have any mana system letting modern decks just set up turn 1 fairly consistently. Even a pretty mediocre deck can off a single card make a gigantic body that will one shot you on their first turn.

If the yugioh player bricks hard then the magic player could potentially pull off an infinite damage combo and win, though. Only really viable if it's a no ban list game however

          Anonymous

yeah you'd really have to figure out how to convert yugioh damage to magic values and vice versa for this to be even remotely fair

            Anonymous

            That's easy.
Every 400 damage is the equivalent to 1 damage in Magic.
            Since 8000 divided by 400 is 20.
Then all you have to do is just round anything not divisible by 400 to the nearest whole number.
Blue-Eyes gets rounded to being the equivalent to being an 8/6.

If you scaled the life/damage numbers to match up, it's either the YGO player goes first and has a turn 1 win, or the MTG player gets a land down and it's GG since MTG is so disruptive and reactive.
If we're including boomer mtg then they won't even need the land.

          Anonymous

          >since MTG is so disruptive and reactive
homie they have one mana on turn one. Unless they drew every Force of Will in their deck their turn one disruptions are going to be no worse than an ash blossom or barron de fluer.

            Anonymous

You're thinking about YGO strats too much.
The 1 MTG mana is going to bounce/flicker your key piece while you have combo on the stack.

              Anonymous

Any modern yugioh deck can play through any one piece getting negated or banished or flickered or destroyed.
The problem here is that any interruption you're imaging a Magic deck can do after one turn of setup, a yugioh deck could also do but like five times instead of just the once, MAYBE twice the magic deck could pull off.

Really, the only hope the magic deck has at all is if it's a no ban list battle and they just do an infinite damage combo on turn one using black lotus. Otherwise mana is just too hard of a limit.

Fundamentally, Magic is a game where you start weak and get stronger and Yugioh is a game where you're as strong as you'll ever be on turn one.

Can't beat chalice on 0 your cards are all CMC 0.

                Anonymous

If you're going to logically interpret the rules as they're written beyond their intended scope, like by treating Yugioh cards as CMC 0, then you should also only be considering spell cards as being spells. Yugioh monster summoning and monster effects are NOT spells so they wouldn't be limited by most magic floodgates.

On a core thematic level, Magic's setting is that the "cards" represent "magical spells you use to summon a monster" but yugioh cards literally represent the actual monster itself. They're not spells, they're just monsters.

So, Chalice would just be equivalent to Imperial Order. An annoying floodgate but not unbeatable.

Here is the cold, hard truth about trading card games:
TCG's are legitimated only fun when played in video game form against CPU's, and I'm being 100% serious.

Specifically for YGO, I haven't played it in a long time and seeing all the new shit and strategies where you can OTKO is annoying. People don't really play for fun, either, they play to win, even if it's just an online game with no ranking. It's just not fun. Every deck has near the same cards Maxx C or wahtever being one of them. It's hard to find people who just want to play strategies that you don't really see.

If you want people playing unusual decks you have to go to DL, and even there people only play shit other than the latest metaslop because it's so expensive to build a new deck. I guarantee you if you could build a new deck there as easy as you can in MD people would just play the meta.

I agree but I would even apply that to all multiplayer games, because otherwise you're an the mercy of a matchmaking algorithm, the infinite treadmill. Bots in singleplayer feel better to beat because you're making your way through the content of the game with an end goal in sight.

Although it is possible to make a game with an infinite treadmill of bots, and it would be as shit as meaningless as multiplayer I'm sure. Anyone who spends 5000 hours playing a matchmaking algorithm is a moron. (why didn't you just divide that 5000 hours amongst 500 unique video games?)

    >draw two cards
Just draw two cards. That's all it does. Somehow this is gamebreakingly powerful and needs to be banned from official contests.

It combos things that trigger off spell activation and cycles your deck for free. Learn the basics of card games.

Drawing is always incredibly powerful in card games.
For free, this card basically shrinks your deck down to 37 cards instead of 40, increasing consistency and bringing you closer to your kill conditions. It gives you 2 turns worth of additional options over your opponent. It makes you more handsome too.

The real reason Konami limits draw cards so much but is happy to print archetype searchers that go insanely plus is because they're scared of Exodia being meta. Turn one kill decks being viable is worst case scenario. Three pot of greed would make Exodia FTK way too consistent.

        Anonymous

There are turn one kill decks already.

yeah, but they're not consistent through hand traps. Otherwise they would be winning every YCS, and they're not. There's a reason all the Exodia pieces are on the limited list.

        Anonymous

No its because they don't want to devalue pot-but-worse cards that people pay 100 dollars per copy of and buy tons of boosters to try to pull them

      Anonymous

Pot of Greed only makes unplayable hands playable and Good Hands better.
Either an avoidance of scooping/sitting there while your opponent combos off while you can't do anything or a "win more" card. It is legitimately not the gamebreaking card people think it is.
Anybody who says otherwise is probably just a Youtuber or a Youtuber sheep.

      Anonymous

Pot of greed at 1 would be fine. It doesn't and shouldn't come back as it wouldn't make the game better for it but it wouldn't really break shit further either. Frankly prosperity is better anyway if you can't run more than 1 greed. Digging 6 deep and getting your one card combo or the perfect out is way more valuable than just 2 unknown cards in the modern game.

        Anonymous

Yeah that one, and it's super hard to brick because everything makes you draw cards and you really need just 1 of the 10 cards to start the chain.

1 thing I dislike about Digimon is that the way you win is anticlimactic, just attack directly when the opponent has no shields, and you're always allowed to attack directly regardless of how strong the digimon is, so you spawn a million weak mons and have them die attacking instead of evolving into the cool huge ones you DNA combine and stuff.

This. Playground yugioh was never real and this concept that the game was so much better when it was set Man Eater Bug pass is just moronic. There's almost no reason to play Yugioh over Magic until 2008, and Yugioh having a ton of complex combos is what makes it unique. In a world where every other card game is 3 turns of land pass, Yugioh is all gas from the word go.

Just play Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution. It's a singleplayer sim that lets you open packs and play through duels from the anime. PROTIP: Use cheat engine to speedhack the game, it's kinda slow otherwise.

      Legacy of the Duelist.
It pretty much goes through the anime story giving you anime decks. It's fun to see new mechanics slowly added as you play.

your opening hand leaves the deck with an odd number of cards, so if you have one piece on the exact bottom you'll run out as you draw the last piece. Pretty sure that's a loss.

Limits on the amount of cards. You could make an Exodia deck that is nothing but drawing cards via Royal Magical Library, but it would be hard to pull off in the current meta. It is also time consuming.

If you want an actual funny OP deck in unlimited format try

    >kirin bounces to hand
    >opponent must destroy that specific copy in your hand
    >no matter what your opponent can't win because if they did it means you would lose which you can't do

    Or
    >anime Drawber + D Hero Dark Angel
Anime dark angel puts itself on top of your opponents deck, Drawber makes your opponent shuffle all of their cards if you correctly guess the card on top of their deck

Someone actually tried this, made their hand as grody as possible and then played Yu-Jo so the opponent would either have to shake their hand or forfeit. Konami declared that you only have to agree to the "idea of the handshake" and that's the official ruling now.
