Because stealth is the game. Guns blazing is the fail state.

You chose the worst stealth game to showcase shooting.

stealth implies a level of finesse and professionalism that barging in with guns doesnt, robbing a mansion with a gun is easy, getting in and getting out without people knowing you were ever there is cool.

I've only played conviction. How does that compare to the rest of the Splinter Cell series on average? I like MGS and Styx but I haven't really played stealth games otherwise. Frankly I think that webm looks neat even if it's not stealthy.

Blacklist still has good stealth, too easy even i would say with the amount of stuff you can use but yeah as you saw you can also just quickly dispose of shit that way, honestly i still like Blacklist even with its flaws, though the Chaos Theory is THE goat forever.
I'd say its basically a better conviction but without too much Hollywood shootouts like it had.

MGS games are made for a balance of both stealth and loud approach. unlike something like Splinter Cell or Deus Ex games.

Deus Ex is more flexible than the ASS controls and mechanics that were MGS. Who the frick actually likes shooting in those? I remember MGO1, which was cute and all and then I remember how meta’d to death it was because of its mechanics.

Adam's games have good smooth combat so those are fine to go loud but the OG has a dogshit combat in terms of shooting even when max upgrades so the stealth or simply quickly bonking everyone behind their backs is the preferrable choice.

          >the OG has a dogshit combat in terms of shooting
Unironically skill issue. Loud combat is quite fun in og Deus Ex and is a lot more challenging than stealth. Not to mention that Warran Spectar went on record to state that he made the game deliberately to be played however you want.

Yes, just like MGS has dogshit shooting mechanics where you’re literally better off either getting the tranq gun or not at all.

mgs2 and mgs3 have kind of a crappy control schemes but the way bullets and locational damage work is about a million times more intuitive than deus ex.

Im playing Deus Ex 2000 right now and have killed every single enemy ive come across. Am I doing it wrong? Seems so much slower and boring if I just prod everyone and I know I can just use tranqs but meh

i just meant the combat in DX1 is janky as frick.

        >Am I doing it wrong?
No you're not. You play the game whoever you want, and the game doesn't penalize you for it. That's the idea of immersive sims. It's why the newer games are "worse", as they clearly favour stealth over every other approach.

Do not listen to what the subhuman Black personhomosexuals on Ganker say, they're all barely sapient anyway.

A good stealth game uses limited resources and potentially overwhelming opposition to make combat really tense and exciting, something you're incentivized to fight your way out of so you can hide again
A bad stealth game is quicker and easier if you just shoot everybody
A REALLY bad stealth game just automatic game overs you if you get caught

Stealth can be fun and exciting, things like sneaking up on guard for a takedown when he can turn around any second and quickly hiding his body & disappearing before his buddy comes around the corner can give me some nice adrenaline. But I also enjoy the moments when I'm discovered and have to fight my way out while outnumbered and outgunned. That's why I love Intravenous because it does the mix of stealth and action really well - you have a good set of options for stealth and quiet takedowns, then when you get detected or start going loud you're running between buildings, shooting at enemies from the shadows and getting them into ambushes while they try to hunt you down and corner you. I also played a game called Swirl Watch which has pretty good stealth gameplay and whenever you get detected it really makes it clear how outgunned you are, especially on more difficult levels

Stealth can be fun too but yeah it's always fun to get good at a "stealth" game and then go full Contra.

most stealth games are too reliant on you doing the gameplay equivalent of killing guards, bonking them over the head into a coma. It goes from stealth to a short predator minigame you repeat over and over. While the tranq gun is overpowered in mgs2 I think it's the closest a stealth game has ever gotten to hitting that sweetspot where you don't have to clench your ass cheeks into a blackhole everytime you decide to have some fun and avoid a guard instead of checking them off.

4 is definitely the worst MGS game and potentially the worst MG game overall as well. I dunno, the only MG game I haven't played is Acid but Acid would have to be really fricking bad to dethrone MGS4 as the worst game in the MG franchise.
