>is it still the gaming laptop best option
duh, moron
You're not going to like the answer, anon.
you mean apple?
they deprecated opencl and have no cuda.
pretty much the two most paying technoloogies afaik, except maybe old cobol wizards
You're not going to do anything CUDA-related on your laptop. Literally nobody does that. You do all of that on the server.
>pretty much the two most paying technoloogies afaik
So you're just a larper.
>omf omf omf omf
alex, what is a prototype for 200$
also you gotta learn the tech somewhere, shill
What prototype? You clearly never done any real tech work.
You prototype is renting p3.2x instance from AWS for three bucks/hour.
>nuh, clearly
the only thing thats clear here is that youre shilling appo when its ecosystem is gimped compared to windows or loonix
You think the default workflow is different on windows or linux?
both
especially if you dont want your code to be floating around on the cloud.
>gaming laptop
in not op, and i always use desktops bc thermals + their influence on component longevity
but if a laptop is a must, i think its rational to go with a platform thats the most flexible.
that would be a gayming laptop with an ngreedia gpu
You're too obvious.
>no response
If you're so set on getting gaming laptop, go for it.
Good luck getting warranty support. Apple turns down all warranty claims now. They refuse to repair anything even under apple care+.
Depends
You can get 30 buck old laptop and learn to code
Maybe just dont use Chromebook or similar cause the current linux support isn't that far cause they israelitelooked everything
Lenovos are generally the way to go imo
bad support and shitty hinges on all but the most expensive models
as compared to which brand? you think dell or hp are better?
This, I only moved from Dell to Lenovo because Dell cost is ridiculous and the build quality has consistently going to shit. A thinkpad is still the best you can get
i5 or i7 4th generation or newer. This is key because the processors have microcode for things like youtube. Go for the enterprise grade thats 3-5 years old as this is the device lifecycle of many it departments. HP minis are good value, get a barebones i5 6600s and chuck an ssd in there. Also have support for nvme drives. If you want new, thoses zen 2 laptops are pretty slick
>zen 2
you realize its 2024
you can get a zen 4
Don't give trash advice. I5-6xxx is horribly outdated and shitty cpu.
The only two type of notebooks worth buying are the office/workspace targeted and the gaming ones. Both are heavy. Heavy is good.
I bought a display stock Lenovo for ~$550USD. Has been unreal, in terms of processing speed, although it only has usb-c so I had to buy a dongle for hdmi, and the ssd was only 250GB.
anon can you post which model was it, specs?
It's a Lenovo yoga carbon.
lscpu says: 11th Gen Intel i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz
thanks
thinkpad e14 g3 is pretty good. its small and lightweight you never really hear the fan and get decent battery life from it. Only think I hate is how hot it gets in summer and that if you compile something with -j6 you only get 2h battery life.
probably a thinkpad
closest thing to a macbook without the limitations of arm macos
>whats the best for buck
>is it still the gaming laptop best option
frick off pajeet you aren't a "programmer"
just get a framework
budget: Thinkpad T480
premium: Macbook Pro M2
everything in between is a waste of money
>Thinkpad T480
but this implies buying a 8 year old used laptop with somebodys cum all over it
it can die any day
how to cope with that?
Unironically an old Thinkpad. You're writing text files with syntax highlighting you dumbass.
what happens when you try to compile
or to run a docker
or even better, to play a hd video on youtube lmao
it shits itself
>what happens when you try to compile
It just takes longer. If you're working for a company just compile it on their system.
>or to run a docker
You're supposed to be writing code not doing that gay shit.
>or even better, to play a hd video on youtube lmao
Now you're obviously just arguing in bad faith.
no no you are right, an 8 YEAR OLD LAPTOP COVERED IN SOMEBODYS CUM is totally going to be good in 2024 and not shit itself
obviously I am the problem
8 year old? What are you talking about? My X200 recently had its 15th birthday.
Intel 8th gen is 6 years old anon. my gayming laptop has a 9th gen i5 in it and it works perfectly fine. 6 years is nothing with how much CPUs have stagnated for the past few years
you don't always need to have the absolute latest shit and change machines every year, you know?
Posts like his boggle my mind. Anyone who's used an older laptop is fully aware that it's still perfectly fine. I can't tell if they're marketing shills trying to make you buy the newest slop, or actual children.
its not about buying the newest slop
its about that you fricks recommend people to buy a USED laptop with somebodys cum all over it
the fricks wrong with you morons
you cant possibly be that poor
This is a bot user saying things for no other reason than engagement.
>no arguments
stay poor morons
>Equates being well-to-do with consumerism.
This, basically.
A fool and his money are soon parted
what's with that weird obsession you have with cum anon
if you're craving it that much just install grindr
>its about that you fricks recommend people to buy a USED laptop with somebodys cum all over it
Literally a non-issue.
if you like somebodys encrusted cum then yeah, good for you
pretty much kek
if I wanna do more resource-intensive stuff I can just use my desktop anyway, but to be fair 99% of the stuff I do runs perfectly fine on my laptop. my reason to get another one wouldn't be a lack of power but rather wanting something that suits my needs more, for example an all-AMD laptop since I'm running Linux
in the end though, my little i5 9300H with its RTX 2060M are having no issues. I'm planning on upgrading its RAM from 16 to 32 but even that is unnecessary because I learned about zram recently and holy shit that crap is good
>gaming laptop
Manchildren's toy.
>ZenBook 14X
>Acer Swift Go
>Thinkpad T14 gen 3
>MacBook Air M1
The real options.
If you're compiling remotely: any old thinkpad, don't spend more than $200, yes they can fricking play youtube if you buy something newer than a core2duo or something
If you're compiling locally: one of the newer AMD thinkpads (proper zen CPUs are vastly better than estrogen cores for multi-core compilation workloads, so don't buy the intel ones)
If you don't mind macOS and have the money: a macbook unironically, too bad they're locked to a single unconfigurable OS so if you don't automatically like all of its defaults then it's basically not an option for you
HP 256 G8 Notebook.
Ryzen laptop. Yoga series maybe
Or anything open box at best buy
>anon after buying a used laptop with CUM on it
yeah poorgays dont make sense
they buy old used thinkpads with cum on it for like $250 when they could've just saved bit more and buy an actual up to date brand new foreign-cum-free laptop for like $400
don't quote me moron, I was making fun of you
>I was making fun of you
>he eats cum while making fun of other people
ok...
> i swear its not cum
> my niece had spilled strawberry yoghurt over my laptop
> go ahead and lick it to see for yourself
Get the cheapest model with a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port so that when you get some money together for gaming you can upgrade with an external GPU enclosure. That’s what I would do.
>for gaming
Might I strongly suggest that you head over to Reddit this very moment.
Who are you gaslighting? Everyone in Ganker is into gaming, period. It’s just a matter if you can afford it or not.
you are dead wrong normie frick
i hate both you gamer sloppers and these thinkpad cumeaters
Billions of people play games. Fricking UNIX itself was invented because Thompson wanted to run his favorite game without mainframe timesharing costs. While RPGs were written on early BSDs.
It's only you troons with your handme down thinkpads and spergOS that cope about games. Not even macgays cope as hard as you.
frick off back to ddit seriously
>Billions of people play games.
>Just because ginormous amount of people do it then somehow that makes it good .
>stars defecating in the open
>starts
I feel like we should already have laptops that are always cool to the touch, fan-less, and have over 24hour battery lifes. Why aren't there laptops like this?
they are called macbook pro
They are called Pinebook Pro
And they suck, yes tiny single-board computers like this are very impressive for their size these days but you're still basically getting performance from 10 years ago compared to real laptops. Also the most powerful ones still make a lot of heat and will either require a fan or throttle in your face.
Other than Pinebooks, the closest thing might also unironically be a phone, connected up to an external display and keyboard, and a couple of power banks. You might unironically be able to Black person-rig something like that together with a USB-C dock, some off the shelf laptop keyboard and display, and maybe some 3D printed parts for an enclosure, or maybe gutting an ancient thinkpad or something like that.
