ChatGPT it takes the heaviest chores off your shoulders - npc descriptions, location desciptions, it can even do some puzzles and riddles. Wouldn't trust it for stat blocks though.

I'm going to take you at face value and say I've gotten the most use out of a notepad app, google (for googling, and dice rolling in emergencies), and 5e.tools assuming thats the edition you play. Many use DnD Beyond for a handy character sheet but it requires you to buy some extra digital content to make a character freely.
