GBAs are too weak for shaders. It's a miracle they can run emulators at all.

    >no backlit

Nintendo had already released 5 handhelds, and they still had the nerve to launch a handheld without backlit.

It's because they wanted players to go outside. Same as StreatPass in 3DS

the battery life was great on them

I'm sure they knew it would sell without it and the battery life benefited from its absence. Lots of mobile phones back then weren't backlit either.

Every 1st gen nintendo handheld has a dogshit screen. GB, GBA, DS, 3DS, switch, all were improved massively with revisions

All 3DS screens are the same, it's all the same IPS vs. TN lottery

Also I have no idea why the DS fat uses those weird frontlit screens when the SP lite already had a backlit screen first.

The DS fat didn't use a frontlit screen, you must be confused.

Interesting, I looked it up and it is backlit. It's just a really shitty backlight that makes it look like a AGS-001 screen.

It's not nearly as bad at that. Side by side with an AGS-001, the DS fat is far superior. Still, it's a noticeable downgrade compared to an AGS-101.
There are a small number of DS fat consoles with comparable screens to the DS Lite. This is my favorite DS to play on, they're great if you can track one down.

new 3ds made the 3d effect actually usable by making the screens adjust to your head position

it's not about the backlit crisp LCDs we got, but the dogshit dot matrices we had along the way

It doesn't have a back light so I wouldn't recommend using it in the shade.

I dunno what to tell you anon. The word "Advance" was on every box, advertisement, game and the console itself.

does stretching GBC games count as a shader?

It all depends. Are you using it to watch videos? My suggestion is to leave it on default settings and turn down the brightness if possible. Best way to watch Shrek

I was so disappointed to find out that GBA Video cartridges get blocked from playing on a GB Player. Not too long ago I finally found one for a good price and I was completely ready to use it for movie night but it wouldn't let me.

Retroarch's default shaders are not bad, but they aren't very aggressive in correcting the color curve and the border is too bright.

Not ideal, but you can replace the border with a darker image and use color hacks if available.

I like to use the Game Boy Player border in RetroArch with ghosting and bilinear filtering
