If you have access to a Pokewalker, it's fairly trivial to get a Wobuffet, and there's a couple other Pokemon from later in the game available in general.
Lastly the Safari Zone adds a couple more Pokemon, including some rarer or earlier encounters, but if you just want to speedrun the game it's not really worth it. Still worth checking the list.

I'm playing through HG right now, my team is
Lv. 34 Pidgeotto, Lv. 36 Exeggcute, and Lv. 37 Misdreavus, 7 badges, doing the Rocket Radio Tower. Last 2-3 members are planned to be Octillery and Hitmonlee, and maybe Houndoom when I get to Kanto, but I'm not sold on grinding a 6th.

In that case choose six, Nido king/queen, aerodactyl, electabuzz,,magmar, mudkips or any of the 9 available non johto starters, clefairy, growlithe, poliwrath, drapion, vulpix, glalie, bagon, garchomp, those weird deepsea trade only mons from hoenn. The possibilities are endless
