    Freeze Grenades.

First make them by combining with regular grenades, you will get more that way in the early game.

Make sure you get the grenade launcher at the police station, if you don't, reset.

This way the only fight you will not have the grenade launcher with you will be the very first one, in the court of the police station. That is the hardest fight. It is best to use the basic pistol for that: stay at mid range (not too close, not too far either or he'll come rushing to you) shoot 2-3 times, dodge towards his non hitting arm, repeat. Patience, endurance, and you'll get him eventually.

What do I do with the gunpowder? Do I save em all up to make freeze rounds? What’s the best way to go about using them?

        Anonymous

It's your choice. Freeze rounds are the best at killing Nemesis but either pistol (Enhanced Ammo starting pistol or Eagle 6.0 with normal ammo), the Western Custom shotgun, any grenades, magnum, machine guns, etc do work and have various benefits for fighting through the city. RE3 is a very play-how-you-want game because of the powder system, treating it as deterministic isn't getting the most out of it.

as for the second fight in the police station, if you want you can use this exploit, works with either upside down furniture on either side; but it's cheap. I usually fight him in the corridor he bursts through the window in.

I didn't know about this, thanks. I always fight him in Marvin's room but he sometimes still kicks the shit out of me.

second fight is even harder than the first one. I can’t get the furniture exploit to work

Stop being a little b***h and get to the second floor outside STARs room. You'll have plenty of space to maneuver Nemesis and the camera angles are good enough to provide a fixed view most of the time. It's not as good as the battle outside the RPD or in the District Downtown but you should have additional firepower to even things out. You also get some red herbs and FAS in the station.

This part is interesting because I'm shocked that it's actually a 3D arena. I somehow felt that you'd be unable to actually hit anything below you like that.

Of course it's 3D, Resident Evil always had X/Y/Z axis

I know, but I always assumed that the weapons couldn't actually reach that far. That implies it's really just a matter of aiming rather than the weapons themselves. Like if you hacked the game to allow for degree of up/down movement rather than the up-down-neutrla positions in the game you could probably do a lot of sniping.

The system is designed for mid-range combat not long range.

Nemesis gave me scrotal elephantiasis. You can't go around giving such dangerous advice.

You only get rewards for beating him in hard mode. Anyway he always has a main-attack arm, in every form except the final boss, which you are usually safe if you run around the other side of him.

When he's totally unarmed it's even more pronounced; you are almost always safe to run past his fleshy shoulder. He only has a rare, low damage punch on that side and will usually be attempting a grab or running punch with his other, causing him to always miss it. Use pistol to beat him.

It takes 7 grinds of any A type ammo (so mix them without any combinations to speed it up) to make enhanced handgun ammo. Same of B type ammo to enhanced shotgun shells.

      Anonymous

      >so mix them without any combinations to speed it up
is that the ideal thing to do or should I be hoarding them to make freeze rounds? also what is the formula for freeze rounds? I thought it was just A + B

        Anonymous

C+C should be freeze rounds. A+B is a C gunpowder, just mix 2 of those C's together for Freeze. You can combine a C with an already made grenade round to get Freeze Rounds as well, but it's less.

Well RE3 only has "easy mode" and "hard mode" (no normal mode for some reason) so there's no reason not to play hard mode lol.

Outside of areas you can get him stuck always run for his fleshy shoulder cause he won't grab you with that one, also don't run to far from him cause he'll sprint and clothesline you.

like everyone has already said, the 1st fight with the pistol is the hardest. fighting him on hard does give the cool rewards, and if it a new game plus you get the infinite ammo clip which feels like a worthy reward, because a rocket launcher would have been too goofy imo. the only cool thing about easy mode is having carlos' assault rifle which keeps track of ammo in percentage. i love that detail.

    >the acid trap in nemesis 2nd form is dumb as hell. you already fought him numerous of times, and i know he is upgraded, but by this point you can smack him with your choice of ammo

      Anonymous

The acid fight is neat though. You can actually melt his head off and he'll just thrash around blindly. I wish they would have used more gimmicks like that.

        Anonymous

Nah it isn't, it's pretty random and you can't really do shit to him, you just have to hope he kills himself quickly on the acid because your weapons don't do shit to him in that fight.
I don't claim to be a top tier RE3 player, but I'm alright, and on my run here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0g1vYTm2YI I lost a lot of time simply waiting for Nemesis to cooperate.

          >you just have to hope he kills himself quickly on the acid because your weapons don't do shit to him in that fight.

That is incorrect. You can simply use your weapons and shoot at him until the fight ends, you don't even *have* to use the acid.

            Anonymous

I think he is trying to speedrun. You can see he barely has any ammo left for that fight. Optimization for time-attack means using the knife and the acid valves against Nemesis for that fight. And he is correct - Nemesis AI is a bit unpredictable in that fight since he can just run off or not trigger an attack when you knife the valve.

I have yet to understand what in particular triggers the brain Drain Demos.

            Hahaha, this game sucks, man.

Not really. He was already dead the moment he opened his inventory menu because the Hunter had started its decapitation attack before he could heal himself. Only way out of it would be to emergency dodge it. It's like doing a super in a fighting game AFTER your opponent started its own attack - frames haven't connected yet but priority is given to his attack if your character is within reach.

              Anonymous

Yeah Hunters were like that in RE1 too. They're probably just reusing the same code. Their head swipe apparently completely ignores health because I've even seen it happen to someone using a Gameshark code for infinite health.

                Anonymous

It does ignore health, but it's still weird that someone using a gameshark code gets kill that way. Usually they only use the OHKO attack when the player is already well wounded, at least that's how it works in RE3. In RE1 on top of that they might do it when *they* feel threatened, when they have taken some damage and the player is aiming at them.

Also if you're set on taking down Nemesis as much as possible, don't worry that much about enhanced ammo. The special pistol you get from him at 2 Nemesis kills, and the special shotgun you get from him at 5 Nemesis kills, don't work with enhanced ammo. Enhanced ammo is for making the original pistol and the original shotgun viable later on, in case you choose to use those instead of their upgrades.

The cool thing about fighting Nemesis is understanding how it works, what you have available for each fight and where do you choose to fight it. The first battle, where your gear is limited but you're fighting in an open-wide space, is where you need to learn its patterns and its weaknesses. Nemesis is left-handed - he will never use his right-arm to attack you save for the occasional jab which serves more as a distraction than anything else. You can run around his right side to evade either its grabs or punches. Rule of gold is never to make a move until Nemesis does something first - if you just evaded his attack and put some distance between you and it wait to see if it runs or walks and if it walks, then you can fire off 2/3 handgun rounds or 1 shotgun shell. Then evade its attack and repeat. This might seem a bit complicated in the heat of battle but a fight with Nemesis is just like a dance, when you get the hang of it, it's much easier to execute. Count how many times you have been attacked - unless you can mash frenetically and fast, always heal with 1 green herb after 2 hits to be safe.

Every battle plays a bit differently and as more weapons are added to your arsenal, Nemesis becomes easier. Every weapon has an advantage. Even if you don't get the Grenade Launcher on the RPD and don't get to the Power Station before going to the Pharmacy, you might still be lucky enough to get enough gunpowder A to craft enhanced ammo for the handgun before fighting Nemesis the fourth time. It has the stopping power of a magnum round despite damage being only slightly above that of normal ammo - but that can make all the difference to stop Nemesis dead on its tracks when it goes running at you. Also, be wise with the places you choose to fight Nemesis on - constant angle changes will make it more difficult for you to gauge the distance between you and Nemesis and can also mess up the timing on the emergency dodge when you need to use it in a pinch.

from the perspective of you trying to take the path of least resistance with as few deaths as possible fighting nemmy doesn't really make sense, none of the bonuses make up for you repeating the hardest, most dangerous segment of the game several times. It might be worth fighting him once early on to get the pistol sooner than you would through knocking nemesis out in the choice sequences.

      Anonymous

Yeah, even if you think from a storyline perspective, you'll never really capable of defeating Nemesis until its blow off the cable car by Mikhail and being severely damaged by a rocket explosion (I suspect the optional path where Carlos doesn't interfere in the battle and instead offers you the freeze rounds would be a non-canonically route - but could suggest that those grenade rounds were specifically designed by Umbrella to deal with the most dangerous B.O.Ws running rampant across Raccoon City as they were provided to UBCS who were sent to collect B.O.W battle data). Even afterwards, Nemesis is not really "defeated", it just mutates but unlike the T-002, further mutations impair its cognitive functions, allowing Jill to outsmart it in the chemical waste disposal facility. I think Resident Evil 3 is heavily influenced by Terminator 1 - you have this infernal machine chasing you down, non-stop, and conventional weapons only slightly damage it and wear it down to the point of letting you escape but never truly destroy it until the end of the narrative when that thing finally shows a bit of weakness and you happen to be in the right place at the right time.
