get ducked OP
trying rn, but im having a hard time getting a solid 30 fps?
That's just how 5th gen was. You could try fiddling with the overclock settings if you want.
Yeah, you need to overclock in Duckstation's settings but it can cause problems. Don't set it higher than you need to. Silent Hill didn't get solid 30 fps on original hardware.

That's intended.
In short, the emulator simulates the OG hardware to the T. The original system had notable performance jumps, and the emulator will not "fix" those by default.
Only way you can TRY to reduce them is to overclock the emulator's CPU from settings. However, this CAN cause other issues, such as out of sync audio or sequences breaking, so use it with caution. I would not crank the CPU speed more than ~10-15%
Also, you should always play the NTSC (USA) versions.
The PAL versions of all console games ran a whooping 1/6th slower, because of the oldschool 60hz -> 50hz conversion.
If you are only playing it because people tell you, don't. You've already gone in with the wrong mindset.
>People say game is good
>Cool, let's check it out
NO, DON'T PLAY GAME BECAUSE OTHERS TELL YOU TO. NOOOOOOOOOOO
I went in expecting a super spooky psychological thriller
I got random encounters with dogs coming out of the really close rendering fog and combat that existed of *bonk* *run in a circle* *bonk*
Did you actually finish it? The first hour or so aren't great, but it becomes pure horror kino and never lets up once you reach the school.
I did not, I got bored out of my skull within that first hour and kind of fricked off
I have brain problems I guess
>combat that existed of *bonk*
>combat that existed of
>that existed of
Go into the school, it'll change your perception. Nothing beats playing this at 2 AM while listening to radio static and the CLANG CLANG CLANG footstep sounds.
test
If playing on PC, either get DuckStation or XEBRA if you want the most accurate experience out there.
If you have a PSP/PSVita/PS3, use pop-fe to patch the game and play it
have you taken an interest in playing games because YOU actually want to, instead of others wanting you to?
no
yeah, i play whatever i want it's just people praise it so much so i kinda just wanted to check it out
it's good but it's not for everyone. I know people who wouldn't play it because of the controls and graphics being dated.
>filtered
personally I really enjoyed it, the process to get the best ending though is not super clear.
Does the SH dogs have any SFM porn animations with them raping the Nurse monsters yet?
>Duckstation
>CRT-Royale
>4:3 aspect ratio
>Controller
>No upscale homosexualry, deinterlacing, distortion fixing or other shitty """enhancements"""
>Hard puzzle difficulty
>No fricking guides or searching up hints
>Lights out
Perfection.
The atmosphere in this game is so unique, I don't think there's another game that's like this aside from small indie imitators.
Same with SH2 imo
I played SH2 before 1, but while it was... an experience, in hindsight, I don't really feel the "uniqueness" in 2 like I did in 1.
Maybe the increase in fidelity between generations had something to do with it, but the original game just somehow seemed so much more genuinely surreal and dangerous.
I don't agree. Most of what made SH2 so special are less tangible like voice acting, camera angles, pacing and the sense of humanity and compassion in its writing
SH2 starts off weaker than any horror game I've played, but by the midpoint it starts having a very unique identity. Still very different than SH1, so I cannot compare the 2 in earnest.
>I don't agree. Most of what made SH2 so special are less tangible like voice acting, camera angles, pacing
NTA, but nope, can't agree with you there.
Even back in 2001, SH2 felt like a mere next-gen "expansion pack" to SH1.
Not to mention the gameplay is waaay worse in 2. The pacing especially is abysmal at worst in the sequel, making replays a pain in the ass. Not to mention it's way too easy and honestly the least scary of the bunch.
What elevates SH2 above average however is its audio-visual design and themes. For everything else, SH1 is a far superior game, and a better HORROR game.
It's literally a different game, nothing expansion pack-y about it. The combat being worse is actually why it feels different. SH1 is also easy.
>It's literally a different game, nothing expansion pack-y about it.
Nope. The gameplay, set pieces, even James' getup are very Harry Mason.
>SH1 is also easy.
lol nope.
SH1 on Easy equals SH2's "Hard" mode.
You literally cannot even DIE on 2's "Beginner" difficulty, and all the enemies are slooow and anemic compared to Alessa's projections.
Similarly, you don't get freebie solutions for 1's puzzles. The amount of people still getting filtered by the Piano or Zodiac puzzles is staggering.
James is the complete inverse of Harry. Also, I never said SH2 was, in any way, as hard as 1, it's just that SH1 is also easy once you know to save ammo.
I completely agree.
SH1 absolutely mogs SH2 when it comes to atmosphere, horror, creepiness and surrealness. The soundtrack is also way better. SH2 has too much slow, melancholic piano and ambience meant to make you feel sad or reflective, whereas SH1 is straight-up grimy, distorted, industrial nightmare fuel.
SH2 loses something not having the nightmare world.
Duckstation for SH1,
PC ports + fan fixes for 2-4.
