I'll try there. the pcbg threads were getting spammed by a schizo a few days ago unfortunately
Neither
I was going to go with the OdyyseyG7 but I don't want to deal with Samsung quality control and OLED is out of my price range
not speaking to quality of respective monitor, but I just don't get when 240hz is ever going to be put into actual use. Certainly not on anything released in the past 5 years
how many games do you actually get 200+ fps in? ID tech games and that's probably it. I guess if you're a competitive CS player 240hz matters.
I do play CS but also a ton of older stuff like System Shock 2
anything past 165 is literally only for comp shooters. rest is pointless unless you really want a super smooth quake experience or something. OP unless you play CS2 or valorant just get the monitor with the better colors and peak brightness that fits your budget
I play CS but not very seriously, it didn’t really bother me playing CS on 1080p/60hz so I assume 165hz will be fine
Contrast ratio shouldn't be a factor cause its IPS. Its always gonna look like dogshit.
>tell me what to think/do
Not your personal tech support. Do your own fricking research/thinking you dumb fricking zoomer c**t.
I am doing research but it's always good to get some opinions from the turbo autists
neither, get https://www.amazon.com/INNOCN-Computer-Monitor-Connectivity-Adjustable/dp/B0BCK1K44F
I have a 6700XT so my pc can only do 1440p at the moment
then you should buy a decent card instead
I have been eyeing this monitor
(https://www.amazon.com/MSI-G273CQ-Monitor-FreeSync-Displayport/dp/B0BRM67RN9)
>3000:1 contrast ratio
>300 nits
>dirt cheap
Is this IPS or VA? The Amazon listing says VA but people in the reviews are saying it’s IPS
Pretty sure it's a VA panel
ips cant do contrast like that.
dell released some state of the art frickass expensive "IPS Black" displays for professionals a year ago or so, and they have a contrast of whopping 2000:1.
unless you have a video card that can push 240hz frames per second at 2k.... go with the cheaper monitor.
>1440p
What's the point unless halving your framerate?
careful with cheaper Gigabyte monitors. My G32QC-A came with a faulty panel with weird lines in the picture when watching videos, a month later it produced a dead pixel line from top to bottom. sent it back and they swapped the panel completely and it has none of the issues
on top use au optroon panel.
so like this happened
160 hz is more than enough
How big is the jump from 144Hz -> 240Hz compared to 60Hz -> 144Hz? The latter was night and day for me, but I heard the former isn't as big of a deal. For context, I play games where I need to actually move my mouse a lot like Quake.
It's not that huge. You can definitely feel the extra smoothness, but it's not a major difference. Say the jump from 60hz to 144hz is 2x, the jump from 144hz to 240hz feels like 1.2x. Personally I like 165hz or 180hz. They're extremely smooth and you don't have to pay as much as a 240hz monitor for them.
Thanks for the real answer, I'll probably just stick with my 144Hz until it dies then
Honestly its not really worth going that high as most games can't even support that framerate, or you need like ultra top of the line everything else to maintain it without dips
I found 165hz to be a sweet spot but I also jumped from 60 to that
>How big is the jump from 144Hz -> 240Hz
If you play competitive FPS like CS jump is big as 60Hz -> 144Hz even if you cant perceive it. Will beat yourself 144Hz using 240 Hz all the time even if you cant consciously perceive difference.
But ii you dont play hard competitive it 144 Hz is enough.
Youre just going sit and go back to refreshing the catalog all day, it don't matter
>1440P
get the m27q pro
240hz is overkill and not worth the price
240 hz. humans can only see 200 colors
You know, I've upgraded from a 75hz to 165hz monitor recently and I can't say that turning on the 120hz+ modes makes any difference visually.
Is this high refresh rate stuff just for better responsiveness in shooters?
I find from 60hz to 75hz is where the biggest upgrade is, the extra 15fps turn a jittery experience to smooth. I have a 240hz monitor and in my testing I can notice a difference up until 120fps and anything more than that is probably my imagination.
Do you need 1440p?
I’d like to upgrade because I’ve been on 1080p for the past 15 years. I have a 6700XT so it can’t handle 4k so 1440p seems like the choice to go with
Well if you want that resolution go with this has built in blue light filter meaning it wont burn your eyes and has great color range. Alot of the new panels like this one have built in blue light filter that doesnt change the colors its pretty great. Its a great middle ground between the two you chose.
Why the frick would you buy a 1080P 27" monitor? Are you blind or poor?
>+$200 for a framerate you will hardly ever reach
Think, man! THINK!
if he plays CS, LoL, or any other multiplayer game he will most definitely reach more than 144 fps.
I have a 1440p 165hz and it's pretty garbage. I'd recommend you to flip some more burgers and save up for an OLED 244hz.
I was looking at the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM but I’m worried about burn in. I want to buy something that will last long - I’ve been using my 1080p 60hz monitor for 15 years
Can I have this monitor and my old 1080p one hooked up at the same time? I guess I could only use the OLED for gaming and then use my old 1080p one for browsing to minimize burn in issues
You can, I think you just can't do seamless shit but otherwise you're good to go.
Depends on your rig. Most games don't even let you go over 60 let alone hit 240
you see... the top says IPS. I don't give a frick what contrast you got. IPS has always have way better colors than LCD. Go with the IPS.
The dell has faster pixel response time than the msi even with the lower frame rate, per Rtings. It's actually faster at all ranges. If you value the extended color gamut over everything else then go with the m27q x. Otherwise, the dell is probably better. Cheaper, faster, and slightly better contrast.
How does the Dell compare to this one? This seems like the best of both worlds in terms of the two in the OP.
Rtings:
>The Dell Alienware AW2724DM is a higher-end model than the Dell G2724D, but they perform very similarly. The AW2724D has an overclock feature of up to 180Hz and a USB hub, both of which the G2724D doesn't have, and it also displays a wider range of colors in HDR. On the other hand, the G2724D has better text clarity as it doesn't have the same color fringing issues as the AW2724D, but other than that, both monitors are very similar.
The alienware has hdr 600, wide color gamut, usb hub, but has worse contrast and worse pixel response at 60hz than the cheaper dell.
I’m leaning towards the Dell because of the better text quality
>considering buying gigabyte
morons like you never learn
I was originally going to go with the Odyssey G7 but it seems like Samsung’s quality control is even worse
might as well go for the gigabyte one if you got the money
Neither, get one of the new Rapid VA monitors.
Looking into these now. Are there any with a better build quality than the G7?
Koorui is good enough and only 100€
Those contrast ratings are horse shit. Manufacturers do not give you honest numbers for anything.
Those are both LCD's so the image quality is going to be shite on both of them.
Also high refresh rate is meaningless without a strobing backlight built in (like BFI, ULMB etc)
Go with the Dell. Dell has way better QC than homiebyte.
