Video games are training a generation of children into gambling addicts with far larger repercussions than any violence argument.

game as a service as well as streaming will be the death of videogames

videogames are already dead, as in videogames where people would put in years of effort to create a piece of art that would be a great experience
only japs make real games anymore

the appeal to the mainstream or making a game with the intent of it having mainstream success. stuff like chulip or godhand could never be made again, and when it comes to indie devs they just copy paste the same shit over and over again, at one point the retro throw back stuff was neat but now its a dead horse and most indie games are pretentious trash inspired by earth bound or shovelware sold on steam

-The industry trying to be something it's not (tv shows/movies) is unsustainable because dev costs are insane and the focus on story/plot is killing the medium.

unconventional design being seen as jank. every game needs to play and control the same way. everything needs to be intuitive. reading manuals, learning and adapting to unconventional game mechanics is bad design.

Crunch and bad pay have killed the industry and we are now feeling the effects.

Studios were fine with hiring new programmers chewing them out and spit out game. The devs leaving the industry after. Who cares there is always some new sucker to hire?

Only... now all the old veterans start retiring. And they leave behind empty seats. No new veterans to replace them because everyone with a decent amount of skill flees the gaming industry ASAP. There is zero retention and with it zero skilled devs. The replacements for the retiring ones are nowhere near as good.

Why would any experienced programmer ever sign up with the industry now? You only get bottom of the barrel ones with barely any skill or experience as they can't get a job in the "real" IT industry.

And boy does it show in the quality of games now. Especially "Live Service" games of AAA budget. Look at Halo Infinite, look at BF2042 etc. The next "mass death" event of game studios will be based on who could retain their veteran workforce better and create an environmennt where talented devs WANT to sign up on. Everyone else will die for lack of employees and with it lack of products to sell.

"real" IT jobs don't get many experienced programmers either, they mostly hire Indians who get churned out of CS degree factories and can't actually code worth shit (but they're cheep AND they're diversity hires. Wow, better pat yourself on the back for that one HR department)

eceleb and streamer culture is unhealthy and needs to be stopped. literally an extremely manipulative parasocial relationship and marketing scheme
