You know what I'm noticing distinctly here? A pretty massive lack of distaste for Unova. Sure, not everyone is on board with it, but they're also not tripping over themselves to start a gen war.

(I tried looking but I genuinely couldn't find another Unova thread old enough to prove my point, and I can't find that 2013 archive I remember seeing way back in the day. I will say though, X&Y era /vp/ looks way more fun than current-day /vp/.)

My favorite (especially since I just did it for the first try) is that the Emerald Battle Frontier was the best postgame.
Sure getting Silver symbols is fine, but getting gold symbols is the biggest kick in the dick I've ever experienced. The insane win streak requirement just means you end up playing a homosexual game of Latios Metagross Swampert 90%+ of the time. Doing anything else would just be a waste of time because you're opening yourself up to even the smallest possibility of getting fricked. Even then doesn't matter when the game decides my entire opponent team will use Mirror coat, or will run quick claw Guillotine, or quick claw explosion (don't forget you lose if you end the battle via explosion, but the enemy wins if they end the battle via explosion). It's so fricking annoying.
And this doesn't even take into account bullshit like the Battle Palace or Battle Pike, or the fact Battle Factory is bugged so that you gimp yourself by swapping pokemon. I'm convinced the people that jerk off the Emerald Frontier the most either haven't really played it, or at the very least stopped at the silver symbols. Too bad you have to grind it anyways if you want the move tutors or held items there. Platinum BF was much better.

what problem did it have?
The IVs of the pokemon you initially choose, and your opponent use, are based on the current win streak you have. The bigger your streak, the higher the IVs. However it's bugged so that the opponent's pokemon (with the exception of the final battle/Frontier Brain) instead use your streak in the battle tower. So by swapping pokemon, you're actively choosing pokemon with lower IVs (the pokemon you choose at the start will always have higher IVs). And while sure the earlier opponents will have low IVs, the final trainers and the frontier brain for the round will have the correct (higher) IVs on their pokemon because they use a different lookup table.
So if you want that gold symbol the strategy is really to just hope and pray you get a good loadout to begin with.

Even though the levels are changed for the Pokemon the stats are the same as they were for their original levels. So “”Challenge Mode”” just gives you extra exp for fighting opponents that are effectively just their original levels.
how does that work? Shouldn't the stats be automatically increased if you raise the level?
legitimally, how does this even work? The stats' calculation formula also uses the mon's level as a variable, so what the frick did they do to not make it take the increased levels into consideration in the formula?

Cynthia in BDSP actually is the hardest champ, but not in the old games.
Not with EXP all and friendship bonuses, people post the BDSP rematch levels while ignoring that in actuality every opponent has like 50% less accuracy and all your Pokemon come into a match with Focus Energy, a double team and a Focus Sash on top of you not even needing to have trained them to be high level.
Its only ~10-25% chances to activate and the teams are much better than in any other game.
BDSP E4 is harder than in other games even with amie bonuses

I regretted doing an all grass type challenge run because I didn't realize how many grass Pokemon were only available post-game. While I was looking for a little bit more of a challenge than usual, I mostly just really like grass types. I never would have done it if I didn't realize I was going to be stuck using Pokemon like Wormadon. I didn't even bother evolving my Cherubi because I was getting more utility out of it being adorable following me around than I ever would have out of its evolution in battle. I was so done with it that when I realized I'd have to grind to beat Cynthia with my shit team, I used an X Speed and Dire Hit on Torterra and do to how busted Affection mechanics are, he crit every time with Earthquake.
At least Roserade was decent, even if running around with nothing but Turtwig and Bedew for the early game was awful.

I've thought Gen 5 was bad when it was brand new. Still my least favorites but I really hate how they seem to be growing in being hated lately. They were universally praised for nearly a decade. Hate it because you hate it, not because of some gaslight or cause it's what some youtuber said.
