Man the whole fricking Megaman canon is gay. They say X7 and X8 are canon to the zero games now but that makes no sense since Axl, a new generation reploid who fought along side X and Zero, was never even mentioned. I get that he was made after the fact but couldn’t Capcom just split the timelines instead of making them even more convoluted? Bad enough they once said DMC2 takes place after DMC4 despite it making no fricking sense. (What the frick happened to Nero that’s the case?) also Megaman legends should NEVER have even be apart of the same timeline. We go from some dark shit in X, Zero, and ZX to.. Luffy Megaman? That’s just fricking gay. Megaman Legends is a good game but it really isn’t a good Megaman game IMO.

What reason would they have for bringing up someone they fought along side a century prior? When would that conversation ever come up? How does not going "Hey! You remember Axl?" contradict anything?
I mean you could always have one of those npcs roaming around the resistance base making a throw away line about Axl… You don’t necessarily need to have Ciel name drop him point blank.

One explanation is that Axl died before the Elf Wars began so he wouldn't be relevant history to the MMZ era.
I mean, there's a whole world of things that happened between X and MMZ isn't there? There could be many reasons why Axl wasn't mentioned in canon.
Maybe he was literally just a guy that happened to work alongside them in the grand scheme of things like the rest of the Command Mission party. Maybe some homosexual came along, took Axl's body and called it his own OC do not steel, thus we ended up with Model Albert in ZXA

These are the most likely explanations. Though we were already kind of given an idea of what happened to him post-X8. Wish the Archie comics gave us a Megaman X series though. Would love to see how they’d have tackled the post X8/elf war era since Capcom won’t.
Couple of thoughts, X8 and Zero 3 series spoilers:
1. You could argue since the Zero you play as in the MMZ games has some holes in his memory and isn't really Zero proper, that could explain his not bringing Axl up
2. Another theory is that the ending of X8 seems to show Axl getting corrupted by Lumine, and if a hypothetical X9 was supposed to have Axl be terminated, that could also explain why they don't talk about him
3. Don't bother bringing X-Over into it.
As a massive Megaman X fan let me just say this. Do not try to understand the continuity of any Capcom game or you will revert to being angry.
