    Gens 1 & 2 are old pokemon
    Gens 3-5 are classic pokemon
    Gen 6+ is modern pokemon

      gens 1-4 classic
gen 5 is some sort of weird middle ground/ transition
      gen 6+ is modern

      Gen 6.
      >first jump to 3d in mainline
      >introduced battle gimmicks
      >introduced player customization
      >began the trend of cutting content for horseshit reasons
      >began the trend of overanthromorphization
      >began the trend of friendly "rivals" and an overabundance of handholding

These re. Gen 6 being new Pokemon. The shift into full 3D models changing the overall aethetics and at the same time all this gimmicky shit like new oldmon forms that eat into the amount of new mons introduced that still haunts us to this was massive.

      I agree in part.
Gen 3 was the first major change. It was a sort of soft reboot with a bunch of new pokemon instead of just adding them, and it's when legendaries became really important for the lore of the world.

I am torn between having modern pokemon start with gen 5 or 6.
5 was a sort of "reboot" with a lot of pokemon inspired by old ones, and it's when we started to see foreign countries as inspiration for main games.
Otoh, gen 6 with the megas is when we started to see the generational battle gimmick, and it's also when games really dropped in quality.

        Anonymous

You need to stop using the word reboot when you clearly don't know what it means. It's hard to call gen 5 a reboot if you're just going by it having the usual generational counterpart anyway
Either way, the easiest way to go about it is continuity which would make 6 the start of moder pokemon with the introduction of the megaverse.

Everything from 3 onwards is "nu" pokemon by your definition.

I call it a "reboot" because it featured a lot of similar pokemon from the ones from previous gens but in a new context eg Tauros vs Bouffalant. I go as far as to say as this is where the seed of the idea that eventually would become regional forms

Gen 5 is nu-Pokemon. It's like people here weren't around for everyone despising Gen V's Pokemon so much that it majorly tanked the reputation of Pokemon because people thought of them as insults.

Yep, just like they decided to remove Megas after Gen 7 since they realized they were a mistake.
            >Now answer my question. How do I berry farm in BW?
You don't as they wanted the meta to be more offensive with Gems.

Gen 5 was despised for years and ironically enough /vp/ was one of the few places that actually defended and praised it.

      Anonymous

It's not. There is a very small and dedicated group of shitposters that fervently began to argue it was bad recently. At the time of release Gen 5 was met with universal praise by /vp/.

        Anonymous

no it wasn't? no gen has ever been met with universal praise. when i was in elementary school older kids looked at gen iii and said "how is that a pokémon. they look like digimon".

There shouldn't be a single line in the sand because there are too many factors to what is old and new. 1 is hardly like 3, 3 is hardly like 6, 6 is hardly like 9, etc.
