It's incredible how they managed to make the old marauders look more appealing. Who even wants "barbarians" that look like subhuman Americans and Brits?

I think it's interesting that people are so averse to this design when it's probably what barbarians will actually look like IRL after WW3

Yes because what is appealing in age of signage to all of us, is how realistic and accurate it is to modern or post apocalyptic America. It’s so confusing and wierd that people don’t love these designs

Pretty sure both chaos and stormcast models have it because they're both vaguely viking themed.

But you mean "viking" as in Vikings the series, right? Because real vikings never had sidecuts or undercuts

          Anonymous

Yes because that's what the popular conception of vikings is now.

          Anonymous

Sort of. There's some evidence for it based on coins and art, as well as extrapolation based on the haircuts the Normans used. There is the writing of an abbot complaining about one of his brothers wearing his hair in the "Danish style," but it is unclear if it was shaved or just short in parts. Regardless, it's probably influenced a lot by modern ideas of what is rebellious and barbaric.

Warhammer used to be made by history nerds that also loved fantasy. The Perry's for example were historical reenactors and thus had an excellent grasp of how actual armor worked and moved. The sculptors at GW today are all diversity hires that love funko-pop D&D fantasy and think history is problematic.
Doesn't help that GW doesn't allow sculptors to work on their pwn projects, instead everything is a team project to ensure no one can build a resume or style popular with fans.

It’s not about copyright, it’s about search results. Google dwarf miniature and you get any number of results unrelated to Warhammer. Google duardin miniature or Kharadron Overlords and you get AoS.

If GW cared about copyright they’d have done more than the absolute bare minimum when it came to TOW army names where everything is pretty much named as it is in Fantasy since the project as of now seems to be directed at former Fantasy players rather than new blood.

I mean... I guess if you gave a lady a helmet and sword she could beat a man in a fight.

But the reason so few cultures send women to war is that they aren't as physically strong (sure they can be resilient or good shots) but especially because males can't make new people.

The general idea of a nation's army is to protect its women not endanger them because they are the only people who can make more people.

In a fantasy setting I think you can get away with women scouts, women bows, women mages and even standard bearers, but without some magical potion that makes them big and muscly they are just going to end up in an Orc soup cauldron with some mushrooms and parsnips.

A fair chunk of AoS armies are still using warhammer fantasy aesthetics bro.
Almost all of Destruction and a fair chunk of Death and Chaos are directly inspired by the old world. Hell the Gitz are practically just a continuation of old design motifs and tropes that were used for the night goblins.
Order has the most 'new' armies, and a fair chunk of those are pretty bad. But thats still only one grand faction out of 3.

I do agree that AoS goes way too hard on the centerpiece models however. How the hell do we not have Akhelian infantry or Kurnothi units yet?

The armies that look shit are the ones that have decades old models like Skaven.
The rest look pretty good, most of the fantasy models still being used aren't bad as they're 8th edition stuff like with elves.

The dysgenic horde of chaos worshipping scum are strong and scary warriors who kill people and defeat armies of warriors.

The only battle dysgenic Twitter troons like you fight, is defending age of sigmar and other ESG corpo slop, online all day everyday.

These are exactly the kind of people who will make it seem like there is something to be gained by pandering to their kind because they are loud on social media when they will never actually put their money where there mouth is when it matters.

we had this song and dance a thousand times before. AoS is a solid game with a rather big fanbase (compared to other tabletop war games). Its future will probably hold some development in both good and bad directions. i presonally dislike a few of the new darkoath models (the fat lesbian banner bearer is stupid) but some are pretty damn great (looking at the guy behind the drummer and the guy at the center). Worst case if i ever buy them, i will simply get some warcry darkoath and kitbash them. Its what i did for my khorne barbarians.

Spring 2023 GW literally stopped sending AoS models to their warehouses because they were stocking up on 40k for the 10ed launch.

Fall 2022 has AoS at 2nd place, and I can't find the fall 2023 list, did ICv2 not publish it?

These guys were actually sculpted by GW's first full time minority female sculptor, as her first solo project rather than contributing piecemeal to other models. They've had a black guy sculpting before but never a woman (although I think she's actually mixed race or something). I don't think the models are very good, but everyone has to start somewhere.
