Unlike the 90's (and the year 2000, debatably) which were sovlful, the 2000's don't have a distinct identity. You zoomers missed out on the golden age of video games and are desperate for a susbtitute.
Most 2000s? First thing I think of is Extreme Sports. They were all innovating at the time and a lot of good games released during the era. EA BIG released a lot of good ones - SSX Tricky, Freekstyle, NBA Street, NFL Street - There was also Tony hawk, Matt Huffman, and Dave Mirra games. Trickstlye was on the Dreamcast. The Car street industry was HUGE too so we got Midnight Club, NFS Underground, more Ridge Racer. Mecha basically peaked in the 2000s so Armored Core, ACE another century's episode, Metal Wolf Chaos, Mech Assault, Mech Warrior, Phantom Crash, Robotech Battlecry, etc, etc, etc.
Also, basically any game with Drum & Bass or House is peak 2000s
You could probably at least partially attribute it to devs wanting to show off fancy new water effects since the technology had just gotten to the point where you could make it look good, and a pretty tropical beach is a nice way of doing that.
No way. 5 is all grungy and drama filled and shit, and very green. 04 is BLUE, has that great electronic soundtrack and sleek as hell UI, not to mention having the first slot on the upcoming titles list on the PS2's own box.
