I'm still mad, not only about the fact there's no twist but also all of the other moronic shit Uchikoshi did (like Date's face).

What has gone through uchikoshis head when he decided to give Date another amnesia for 6 years just after he reunited with Iris and her mother. Does he actually hate Date?

        Anonymous

Uchikoshi is a hack incapable of writing sequels.

        Anonymous

He doesn't think in terms of the characters, only twists. Hence he billed it as Mizuki's game when she's only in 1/3 of it and in the true route instead of her figuring out anything regarding the mystery she just follows along while Bibi and Date infodump and tell her what to do.

        Anonymous

It's almost like he wanted the sequel to be spoiler friendly with marketing or something.

      Anonymous

They really expect us to believe that Mizuki's sister was running around 6 years ago, is obviously older, and NOBODY knew or at least cared to tell Mizuki about it? This whole twist made ZTD look tame.

      Anonymous

Ryuki's route was so good and Mizuki's route ruined everything. I'm so mad. I like how the writer never bothered explaining how a woman and her husband somehow managed to randomly adopt a baby that has her EXACT SAME FACE!! Pure moronation. Ryuki should have been the only main character, they should erase Bibi's existence and give that role to someone else, like Ryuki's twin brother. Make him a deranged yandere for his oniichan or some shit so he wants to live the same life and imitate him or som shit, to catch up to the time he lost after being put into a coma by truck-kun. That could explain why everyone could call both of them the same name, because it's just a family name and that could also explain Ryuki's weird behavior, because it would be another person entirely. You could even make the antagonist's motive more personal that way, Ryuki's brother could have been experimented on and that's how he survived but still lost his eye in the accident. And use either brother as a hostage instead of Tama, a literal fricking computer who could have retrieved some data after exploding which is pretty much what happens to Aiba in the first game. I made shit up on the spot and still thought of something less moronic wow.

I honestly forgot Ryuki's gay obsession with dante.

kek the funniest part about this is that after beating this game I read some generic, sappy yaoi, what was under the dust cover and it says that there's a BL CD of the manga and the two main characters are voiced by Date's and Ryuki's Japanese voice actors. I can't unsee it now.

And I forgot to say but it makes sense imo. Ryuki is basically Date before he became a serial killer/vigilante so I definitely get why Date would get attached to him and look after him, and why Ryuki would feel like someone finally understands him. Not that this would ever be canon or anything because the game pretends Date and Hitomi aren't even a couple to avoid spoiling the first game to newcomers... while spoiling it hard at the last second so they look ridiculous. If there's a AI3 game someday I expect some equally absurd with Ryuki.

I noticed all the hints but together that we were playing s Bibi all along until way later because it was so stupid I just subconsciously refused to believe it. As soon as we got that scene of her taking the voice changer I was wondering when she would start using it because I thought she was the real Mizuki and I only understood what happened after we saw that, of course, they both have THE EXACT SAME MOTORCYCLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ACCESSORIES. OF COURSE.

the first game was good. I dont think the twist was that good but the way the game was setup was really good I'd say. Honestly maybe one of Uchikoshis best ones
Dont know why he didnt just do that formula in the sequel and just end up writing a cheap twist

      Anonymous

Nah the twist if fricking awesome. The twist itself isn't bad, but what the game has to do to achieve the twist definitely makes the story worse off in terms of character development. Since a lot of things have to happen in certain ways. I quite like the twist, because frankly it was such a terrible idea to do it, that I really don't think any other story /game or otherwise will ever do something like it ever again.

I still don't get why couldn't Date just look like Falco and be called Falco and be introduced to Ryuki as a cop he never heard of, and then we could have older Mizuki know him but show herself distant (like she did in the first game).
Then Ryuki gets mindfricked later on when he sees Falco fall her daughter and she's super happy to see him. That would be a double twist because it would look normal to players of the first game and off to players of the second, but it was still disguising another twist because that Mizuki was a different person at a different point in time.

The fax machine is dumb, but it's a package deal with Delta.

      >"I have mind reading powers."
      >"I have mind control powers."
      >"I was hiding offscreen the whole time."
      >"I have an army of robots with super strength."
      >"I have a quantum computer that can study other timelines or some shit."
      >"I have a loyal organization of terrorist clones."
      >"I have a powerful mega-virus that can kill 75% of the world's population."
      >"I have an alien fax machine that allows me to clone other people and send them back in time."
      >"By the way, I was secretly a good guy(?) all along and just wanted to train you to stop the REAL villain in the next game that doesn't exist. Yes, this was the cliffhanger of the last game; don't think about it."

Most of these things would be bad enough on their own, but Delta does all of them at the same time.

The plot you're introduced to initially is that you have two protagonists trying to solve a murder. You play as the first protagonist failing to solve it six years ago, then the second picking up the slack in the modern day. Except just kidding! Every other scene they switched the time period the story was set in, so half of Character A's route was in the present and half of Character B's was six years ago. But wait, how does that work? Character B was a kid six years ago, and she's clearly an adult in all of her scenes! Surprise! Those scenes were actually brand-new Character C, who was an adult six years ago! You didn't notice because adult Character B and adult Character C have the same face, name, personality, hair style, clothes, bike, weapon of choice, and circle of friends!

Funnier that it exists only to fake out the player since it doesn't affect the actual story just the perception of it before the reveal. So "for the sake of it" of a twist.

            Anonymous

Technically it's meant to both trick the player, and for the nil number ending. The actual pay-off for the twist the entire game's narrative was built around is a scene that lasts five minutes.

It's because the twist is meaningless. If you replay the first game, you can put together what's happening in the narrative in real time, whereas for AINI, on a replay you just see all the times the narrative bends over backwards and twists itself in knots just to keep the big reveal a secret until the end, and the whole story suffers for it.

To be fair, while that is ridiculously implausible especially when combined with the fact that everyone continually implies or outright says that Sigma is old, there is some leeway. Everyone has Radical-6, so that could work as an excuse for the weird feeling in his body, and he has to spend a majority of the game trying to maintain his memories between timelines. It's entirely possible he found out he was old in other timelines we don't see but just forgot.

The whole "Sigma never looks into the water at any other point" thing is pretty ridiculous, though.

Everyone complains about this but if I assume I'm kidnapped and forced into some game the first thing on my mind isn't gonna be, "Frick am I still me, let me look in a mirror or some reflective surface real quick"
I'm just gonna try to get out alive, then check myself out after or if I lose a limb.

In fact I think when you get to the get in the one escape room with a mirror it's dusty and Sigma says something along the lines of "He has no reason to use it"

Rubber bullets would be less bad if they'd translated it as stun rounds like it is in japanese. A lot of the issue comes from knowing how rubber bullets actually work, by hitting someone with a physical non-penetrating bullet that whacks you like a punch. That is obviously moronic for every plot point they're used. They were supposed to be magic videogame sleep button bullets, which is silly but not frustrating

As opposed to the guy who lures everyone to the roof to fight so that the REAL villain will come out after they all take turns beating the shit out of each other.

It would have been better if they didn't show fricking blood spatters when they get hit (though I think for one guy it's soup) honestly the fact they use it 2 more times in the same game is what bothers me more.

          >It would have been better if they didn't show fricking blood spatters when they get hit
There is never any blood. Look closely and you can even see the soot of the bullet. The soup is made to look like blood, but it's bright orange, not blood colored.
It made sense. They needed to pin the hit on Saejima, but they couldn't have the patriarch actually get killed. If they gave him real bullets then the patriarch might've died. It's a pretty good cover. Tons of crazy shit happens in Yakuza, rubber bullets isn't nearly the worst twist.

The whole plot was complete dogshit which is a shame since I also really enjoyed the mechanics, weapons & bosses in it (it's really just the fricked up scoring/Demon balance and performance holding it back). Viola keeping her secret makes no sense, it's as if the game was written around time travel at first and then they didn't change it when they turned it into Multiverse shit. Then Jeanne & Viola get chumped out while Cereza saves the day again despite the whole game implying she won't and they have one of the least-earned endings I've ever seen.

It takes a really standout story for it to affect my enjoyment of an action game, for good or for ill, and this was for ill.

Sometime in 2011, a young mother (implied to be the mother of Eric) was jogging in the park and reached a fork in the road. Normally, she went down one path, but she went down the other since this snail had been on her normal route. Why she specifically avoided walking down the snail's path is unknown. Was she afraid of them? Or felt a sense of danger from it? Whatever the case may be, the snail caused her to switch paths. The woman reported to a senior citizen who was familiar to her that she chose a different path to avoid the snail. This led her to the site of her murder by a girl, who is implied to be Mira.

One day, about a month later, a man was falsely accused of being the killer. He claimed innocence, but the jury still found him guilty. The verdict could not be overturned and he was executed. As a result of this, the man's wife took her own life in despair. The couple left behind two young children, Aoi and Akane.

The accused man called a taxi soon before his arrest, but as a result of his arrest, the taxi did not pick him up but instead picked up another fare, a surgeon who had been scheduled to operate on a young boy named Sean (who a robot would eventually be named after). The taxi was involved in a lethal accident that killed the driver, the surgeon, and by extension, the boy the surgeon was supposed to operate on. This accident would not have happened had the driver picked up the accused man.

Because 999 would never have happened if the Kurashiki parents survived, and subsequently neither Virtue's Last Reward or Zero Time Dilemma would have either, this snail indirectly caused the deaths of 6,000,000,000 humans and massive amounts of chaos and suffering.

There are several layers to the moronation of the twist.

Sometime in 2011, a young mother (implied to be the mother of Eric) was jogging in the park and reached a fork in the road. Normally, she went down one path, but she went down the other since this snail had been on her normal route. Why she specifically avoided walking down the snail's path is unknown.

The taxi was involved in a lethal accident that killed the driver, the surgeon, and by extension, the boy the surgeon was supposed to operate on. is only part of it. The most egregious is

. The game uses fixed camera angles, and one of the characters is out of the shot for the first 95% of the game. Other characters don't acknowledge his presence except in a few Easter egg "foreshadowing" once you know it. It turns out that this character is the mastermind behind the game.
That character is also a time traveller and he can read minds.

        Anonymous

the worst part is that the twist adds NOTING to the narrative. so, there was a fourth guy off screen, and? the only reason he's off screen is so that the player will keep on guessing who is the mastermind among the players by obscuring the right answer.
it's also so absurd when i got to the reveal i thought i accidentally got to a fragment i wasn't yet supposed to.

        Anonymous

What made it more infuriating for me was that I got to one scene where I tested out "X" name and got a different scenario ending and it made no sense to me. And when I went back after the big reveal, it came off as super contradictory.

I'm speaking about the Mexican stand off with Team Q where I input Delta's name and got a different ending. I redid the room to because we agree to climb to the second floor to explode a wall or something. Why weren't the logistics of heaving up a blind dude in a wheel chair there? WTF was the point of pointing your gun at the kid?

That was so contradictory who the frick thought this was acceptable?

        Anonymous

He's only a time traveller in the sense he was sent to the past once. His knowledge of timelines comes strictly from his mind reading of more conventional time travelers.

      Anonymous

Even after all these explanations, anons left out the best part. For 4 participants, this isn't even the first nonary game, they've been in one before. And at least three joined just to figure out what the frick happened there and who the bad guy (Zero/Delta) is. Yet they never talk about it, cause that would immediately give it away, cause they know he's over 100 years old at that point.

Also the whole thing required an alien time travel fax machine to work out.

Why are Japanese writers so infatuated with shitty, moronic twists?

      Anonymous

Japan's obsessed with twists/tricks, thanks to their love for Agatha Christie novels. Roman Policiers and the like never took off at the same level, though noir had a bit more luck. It's why animu like Detective Conan, Kindaichi or most of their mystery shows are trick-focused.

It seems on a pyramid with vertices Poirot, Columbo, Marlowe and Maigret, Japan just continuously goes full Poirot, which ends up a parody.

          Anonymous

There's some Columbo love too but that also gets Poirot'd at the end, since it's a vidya board that makes Shu Takumi relevant to our discussion. He loves Columbo and Ace Attorney is his version of it but again, Agatha's style wins out, of course it goes back even farther to Honkaku and the "detective rules" so clues, suspects etc. must all be fair, which is why they became so crazy about the whole style to begin with.

In Jak 3 it is revealed that the Precursors are a race of Daxters.

Finale of Jak 3. The Precursors who littered the world with their technology and disappeared long before anyone would understand how to use any of it, represented to Jak and Daxter as a voice that speaks through said technology and guiding them through all 3 games, turned out to be the 3 "Ottsels" you see and they were talking through a voice filter to sound epic.
It was kind of the culmination of an entire trilogy building up the mystery of "Who ARE the precursors" and it turns out be 3 daxters.

There was supposed to be a third route which never got made, so instead of a real conclusion the story ends by becoming a time loop (which is probably for the best given the author's track record).

That twist is actually really good. Everyone is constantly calling you a geezer, asking if you're senile, etc. The problem is that you read it like an anime where people tell 24 year old dudes they're grandpas, rather than actually thinking.
Compared to the "there was a secret guy slightly of screen in each shot" or "Mizuki's twin sister clone Mizuki", it is downright artful.

That's no different than them calling Sigma a geezer, and both twists require moronic leaps in logic for characters to not notice/react beforehand. You really can't like one and hate the other.

I like to assume it was intentional but I may be overestimating the writer. Jap games are known for treating men of 30 like at best veteran mentors if not Parkinson cases.

Ironically the best part about DR1 were the non-twists. When someone's dead, they're dead (I consider the twin sister thing a different category of ass pull). It's not a matrix, it's the real world and it has gone to shit. Good thing DR2 shat over that second point specifically.

Every David Cage game has twists that are stupid bullshit. If Heavy Rain or Become Human were written by people with a brain between them they would've been amazing games.

Bioshock Infinite's story also squandered the decent aspects of the game entirely, and then the ending was moronic.

Metal Gear Solid V also decided to make everything some random guy you never saw before the main villain behind everything even though it makes no sense.

This, I really don't get even a remote level of a appeal for people who actually want to be parents. The kid will never grow up, and you'll just have to deal with them forever or scrap them once you get tired of them?

Only instance where it'd make ANY sense would be if at some point you could just like, transfer their memory banks into an adult body and have that robot become your carer or something, but even then, that'd be so expensive and relatively pointless.

            Anonymous

People in real life have kids just to boss them around and make them bring them stuff. Why wouldn't they want a little shit they can use as a slave that doesn't shit its pants and cry for you to wipe it. Also the guy in the game who buys the doll is some fat drug addict whose wife left him and took the kids. Getting a wife and kid android to cope would actually be pretty realistic at this point. I could see pathetic men like that buying androids already.

          t. have never met women irl or experienced the reborn baby fandom

seriously go outside and meet some women that aren't hot chip 2001 e-girl, the trope of deranged woman wanting to be a mother and kidnapping/forcing consummation is older than the two of you combined.

            Anonymous

Having a baby doll to deal with grief for a couple of years or whatever is pretty entirely different to having a robot with a whole fricking personality and needs thats functionally immortal.

I don't doubt some freaks would buy them, but no one remotely normal/sane would. They'd probably get thrown away at the same rate as people who buy rabbits during easter and then get annoyed when they're too much trouble to raise.

              Anonymous

It's not just grief girl, you need to look at the collectors community, it is nuts and people treat these like real children; humanizing them to the nth degree. Not everyone is like that but I have known girls that had reborns and babies into highschool that were super religious or just 'homely' girls that really wanted kids. If a market with sales in the legitimate thousands exists for well-painted baby dolls since before the 90s then are you going to say it's crazy that there wouldn't be a legitimate market outside of depraved weirdos for child androids? Couples that can't conceive or don't want to put the environmental impact on the world or themselves, parents that have suffered loss, grandparents wanting grandchildren, cases in which it would be too risky for the user to have children like people with downs or severe autism.. even just serving as forever-friends for those groups.

It's not crazy to say that there would be a market for android children.

so in first ai:somnium why did criminal final villain(forgot his name) tortured date, learned that there is body swapping machine AND SWAPPED HIS HEALTHY BODY WITH TORTURED HALF DEAD MAN

Because he's dumb. He tortured Date in the yakuza's body to even learn about the machine but didn't have enough common sense to let him rest before forcing him to get hooked to said machine. He's an impulsive, spoiled brat who thinks everything will always goes his way thanks to his dad and his money so his behavior makes perfect sense. Now the real question is did he actually want to frick his dad or was the somnium where we see his dad a huge exaggeration of how neglected he was and how he wanted his dad to actually raise him instead of fricking high school girls?

uchikoshi obviously lost interest in the franchise after VLR, and it showed. there were a bunch of dropped important plot threads from VLR which reeeeally needed resolving.
there was also the villain. the massive twist surrounding him was, at best, divisive for most fans. i personally kinda liked it, but i can see why people don't.

    >Two of the villains look identical to the main character.
    >They get stuck in a "all three in danger but love interest only has time to save one of them" situation.
    >Villains start pretending to be MC.
    >MC does the good ol' "I'll say something only I'd know".
    >Proceeds to fricking say the two fricking things the other two would know, wasting time.
    >Suddenly decides that letting the genocidal maniacs that almost destroyed the planet live and assume his personality is a good idea just so love interest can get out maybe a couple minutes faster.

And then they made an entire new game (the longest in the series I think) just to establish that that ending is still going to happen anyway

Yep. I left it out because the original ending has to be judged on it's own, since the last game wasn't even planned, but yeah, to add insult to injury, they made a whole ass new game just to say "Frick you, we're doing it again". You cannot believe the magnitude of my butthurt that I spent money to get insulted.

I won't say Xenosaga 2 was a good game to play, but the narrative was actually really fricking interesting and going places. And 3 just shits the bed because they have to wrap up all these plot threads from the earlier games in the most half-assed way possible. Martellus was the default traitor if everyone was neutral or pure, Thule couldn't be corrupted but he would leave if you were completely corrupted
The rest depended on the corruption levels, but avitus had the best corrupted gear to a point he became the workhorse of the campaign.

Plus even DoW 2 threw hints that he had a dark secret with all of his nihilism.
He was literally the Big Puss of the magpies.

The others always had their reasons, but he is the one that hits the most because he flips discovering how shit his life is and how there is no escape even if he is loyal or not.

Danganronpa V3 actively lies to you and breaks its own rules. The mastermind being the actual first killer and the first person executed explicitly is known not to be the killer actually fricks up the game. Detective fiction must be solvable before the story tells you for it to be worth a shit. Otherwise why even bother. Its a shit ending that people try to day isnt't the author telling his audience to frick off and stop asking for more games but the literal text is that.

V3 ending with that, then having the gall to leave the door open on a pre-reveal canon sequel anyway with that scene where the survivors are walking out of the dome was what really got to me. All that dick waving about it being wiped clean only to walk it back. That and the double murder trial where the concept of two killers is mentioned, and Monokuma as author insert straight up says some shit along the lines of "Wouldn't that be interesting? Too bad, it's just a game, eat up the easy solution you peasants will eat out of my hand." Just a fricking mess form front to back; at least the side-mode made up for it.

brainlets. that's the point. it's unfair because it's turned into reality tv where they have no control over the outcome. it's akin to how in real reality shows they have to manufacture drama.
they were NEVER going to let them all die before any deaths happened because it's bad for ratings. they would have done something sooner if they didn't know Kaede was going to commit a crime

but it isn't bad. in fact it brings more meaning to Kaede's plan and it comes full circle. she wanted to save everyone by committing a crime and it turns out in the end it was her actions that forced the mastermind to break the rules and lie about it, which saved them in the end

    >This town sure has a lot of spooky supernatural stuff going on in it. A dense mist that lasts for a week straight, giant three-eyed werewolves, insanely brutal murders, killers that can unlock doors, forced sleep at midnight, even a time loop that only I can remember. What ever could be the cause of all this?
    >Actually, all of it is done through conventional technology. The werewolves are just guys in costumes. Those killed outside were killed by a pack of trained rabid dogs. Those bodies are then transported through a secret underground tunnel and destroyed by machines before being returned to the town by morning. The doors are all electronic, even on the rickety wooden shacks. All rooms have knockout gas dispensers installed. And all of this is facilitated by a Big Brother surveillance system so that the other paranoid town can feel less afraid of this town with a dozen people in it. And as for the mist, that's just bad luck that it lasted as long as it did.
    >...Oh, the time looping? Well, that was just legitimate magic done by my ex. If you want to know more about that, as well as the giant apocalyptic spider monster that appears at the end, read the VN again with the extra text enabled, and also the epilogue stories that reveal that the fake gods were actually real.

      Anonymous

It's worse than that. Haruaki actually has a supernatural power that makes any mystery solution that he believe to be true into reality. The insane surveillance system, locks, gas etc only turned out to actually be true because the protagonist willed it into existance.

Raging Loop, a VN themed around a Werewolf/Mafia game with a time loop.
The story and suspense before the final arc and reveals are actually pretty great, but the ending can be called "flaccid" at best and "extremely moronic" at worst.

At the very least, it does have good discussions on strategy in social deduction games.

Towards the end of the game there were massive exposition dumps where the accompanying art was literally just a black screen with a tiny light in the distance. My favorite closed room murder has to be an early one from Detective Conan. Dude is found stabbed in the back with water on the floor in a completely locked room. The only person with a key is a famous singer/musician so they're the prime suspect.

What actually happened is dude dragged in a big block of ice, carved a place to stick the knife facing straight up, and jump on it so it would stab him in the back. He used to date the singer and wanted to frame her for his "murder" in revenge for being ignored now that she was famous. Then it turns out it was all a misunderstanding and the singer still had feelings for the dude.

Classic Conan case. If they're lucky, the murderer failed and the victim just woke up in the hospital.

Pic related has genuinely one of the shittiest stories ever

    >Solving the murders with magical bullshit powers literally never helps the protagonist, in fact it makes his situation worse every single time. Has to be bailed out by a deus ex machina, which would have happened anyway even if he didnt solve anything
    >Every “mental dungeon” looks the fricking same and none of the symbolism relates to the chapter (except the school one, kinda)
    >Final boss is not a puzzle or a mystery, it’s a quick time event where you DBZ swordfight the villain

the murders with magical bullshit powers literally never helps the protagonist, in fact it makes his situation worse every single time.
That was part of the message, I think? It's really not obvious what the theme of the story was supposed to be.

the murders with magical bullshit powers literally never helps the protagonist, in fact it makes his situation worse every single time.
Even if the culprits would/could have been caught without the Mystery Labyrinths, Yuma still got rid of murderers who (with the exceptions of the CH2 and CH4 culprits), would likely kill or commit more crimes again.

      Anonymous

This has a clear point to it though. The murders are attempts to make the protagonist question the validity of going to "any" lengths to find the truth, and whether discarding emotions is right or not. That's the point of the mystery dungeon. It's not to catch the killer - though Yuma may mistakenly believe it. The point is exclusively to figure out the truth. The entire game is just a take on what makes a detective

I liked the twist of this game, where the culprit was a guy that was there the whole time and the kid was weird and people were agro to it because it straight up wasn't supposed to be there and both people involved were too stupid to suspect something else. That's alright in my book.

This entire thread is filled with thin-skinned babies who mouth breathe their way through the mud of their lives. You are all predictably stupid. You see a "twist" in a story like some kind of attack. Like the author is making fun of you. It's the same impulse that dreamed up stupid words like "pretentious". "I'm gay and moronic so if I don't understand something it MUST be this artist guy who thinks he's smart pulling a fast one on me." This is how you think. Foreshadowing is something people only bring up to show how moronic they are. Good foreshadowing is when you (the moron) can feel like they fan figure out le "le twist" early. Bad foreshadowing is when big mean author guy didn't tell me enough, uwu! You have the media literacy of gnats. You don't even know what foreshadowing is. (Because it doesn't exist. It's a fake thing made up by hack critics who got fooled by a "twist).
