I'm still mad, not only about the fact there's no twist but also all of the other moronic shit Uchikoshi did (like Date's face).
What has gone through uchikoshis head when he decided to give Date another amnesia for 6 years just after he reunited with Iris and her mother. Does he actually hate Date?
Uchikoshi is a hack incapable of writing sequels.
He doesn't think in terms of the characters, only twists. Hence he billed it as Mizuki's game when she's only in 1/3 of it and in the true route instead of her figuring out anything regarding the mystery she just follows along while Bibi and Date infodump and tell her what to do.
It's almost like he wanted the sequel to be spoiler friendly with marketing or something.
They really expect us to believe that Mizuki's sister was running around 6 years ago, is obviously older, and NOBODY knew or at least cared to tell Mizuki about it? This whole twist made ZTD look tame.
Ryuki's route was so good and Mizuki's route ruined everything. I'm so mad. I like how the writer never bothered explaining how a woman and her husband somehow managed to randomly adopt a baby that has her EXACT SAME FACE!! Pure moronation. Ryuki should have been the only main character, they should erase Bibi's existence and give that role to someone else, like Ryuki's twin brother. Make him a deranged yandere for his oniichan or some shit so he wants to live the same life and imitate him or som shit, to catch up to the time he lost after being put into a coma by truck-kun. That could explain why everyone could call both of them the same name, because it's just a family name and that could also explain Ryuki's weird behavior, because it would be another person entirely. You could even make the antagonist's motive more personal that way, Ryuki's brother could have been experimented on and that's how he survived but still lost his eye in the accident. And use either brother as a hostage instead of Tama, a literal fricking computer who could have retrieved some data after exploding which is pretty much what happens to Aiba in the first game. I made shit up on the spot and still thought of something less moronic wow.

kek the funniest part about this is that after beating this game I read some generic, sappy yaoi, what was under the dust cover and it says that there's a BL CD of the manga and the two main characters are voiced by Date's and Ryuki's Japanese voice actors. I can't unsee it now.

Ryuki is basically Date before he became a serial killer/vigilante so I definitely get why Date would get attached to him and look after him, and why Ryuki would feel like someone finally understands him. Not that this would ever be canon or anything because the game pretends Date and Hitomi aren't even a couple to avoid spoiling the first game to newcomers... while spoiling it hard at the last second so they look ridiculous. If there's a AI3 game someday I expect some equally absurd with Ryuki.

As soon as we got that scene of her taking the voice changer I was wondering when she would start using it because I thought she was the real Mizuki and I only understood what happened after we saw that, of course, they both have THE EXACT SAME MOTORCYCLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ACCESSORIES. OF COURSE.

Nah the twist if fricking awesome. The twist itself isn't bad, but what the game has to do to achieve the twist definitely makes the story worse off in terms of character development. Since a lot of things have to happen in certain ways. I quite like the twist, because frankly it was such a terrible idea to do it, that I really don't think any other story /game or otherwise will ever do something like it ever again.

I still don't get why couldn't Date just look like Falco and be called Falco and be introduced to Ryuki as a cop he never heard of, and then we could have older Mizuki know him but show herself distant (like she did in the first game).
Then Ryuki gets mindfricked later on when he sees Falco fall her daughter and she's super happy to see him. That would be a double twist because it would look normal to players of the first game and off to players of the second, but it was still disguising another twist because that Mizuki was a different person at a different point in time.
Nirvana Initiatve has an autistic obsession of not spoiling the first game, despite having the whole stupid test in the intro making sure you finished game 1 and didnt mind spoilers

The actual order the game is played is the third mission until the end and then the first two missions if Hendricks has human arms its your characters memory if he has robot arms its Taylors. Taylor being the bad guy is just the DNI fricking with you, any time its Taylor being the bad guy its actually a black guy named Stone.

I was reading through some old discussions for Mass Effect 3 and funnily enough that second one was suggested as a good, dramatic twist for the ME3 story.
Enderal twist is pure kino and well played because on second playthrough you can notice all foreshadowing.
Only on the most superficial level, because if you scrutinize anyone's motives or check their claims against the facts, then it all just falls apart and nothing makes sense.

The plot you're introduced to initially is that you have two protagonists trying to solve a murder. You play as the first protagonist failing to solve it six years ago, then the second picking up the slack in the modern day. Except just kidding! Every other scene they switched the time period the story was set in, so half of Character A's route was in the present and half of Character B's was six years ago. But wait, how does that work? Character B was a kid six years ago, and she's clearly an adult in all of her scenes! Surprise! Those scenes were actually brand-new Character C, who was an adult six years ago! You didn't notice because adult Character B and adult Character C have the same face, name, personality, hair style, clothes, bike, weapon of choice, and circle of friends!

If you replay the first game, you can put together what's happening in the narrative in real time, whereas for AINI, on a replay you just see all the times the narrative bends over backwards and twists itself in knots just to keep the big reveal a secret until the end, and the whole story suffers for it.

To be fair, while that is ridiculously implausible especially when combined with the fact that everyone continually implies or outright says that Sigma is old, there is some leeway. Everyone has Radical-6, so that could work as an excuse for the weird feeling in his body, and he has to spend a majority of the game trying to maintain his memories between timelines. It's entirely possible he found out he was old in other timelines we don't see but just forgot.
The whole "Sigma never looks into the water at any other point" thing is pretty ridiculous, though.

Rubber bullets would be less bad if they'd translated it as stun rounds like it is in japanese. A lot of the issue comes from knowing how rubber bullets actually work, by hitting someone with a physical non-penetrating bullet that whacks you like a punch. That is obviously moronic for every plot point they're used. They were supposed to be magic videogame sleep button bullets, which is silly but not frustrating

There is never any blood. Look closely and you can even see the soot of the bullet. The soup is made to look like blood, but it's bright orange, not blood colored.
It made sense. They needed to pin the hit on Saejima, but they couldn't have the patriarch actually get killed. If they gave him real bullets then the patriarch might've died. It's a pretty good cover. Tons of crazy shit happens in Yakuza, rubber bullets isn't nearly the worst twist.

Then Jeanne & Viola get chumped out while Cereza saves the day again despite the whole game implying she won't and they have one of the least-earned endings I've ever seen.

Sometime in 2011, a young mother (implied to be the mother of Eric) was jogging in the park and reached a fork in the road. Normally, she went down one path, but she went down the other since this snail had been on her normal route. Why she specifically avoided walking down the snail's path is unknown. Was she afraid of them? Or felt a sense of danger from it? Whatever the case may be, the snail caused her to switch paths. The woman reported to a senior citizen who was familiar to her that she chose a different path to avoid the snail. This led her to the site of her murder by a girl, who is implied to be Mira.
One day, about a month later, a man was falsely accused of being the killer. He claimed innocence, but the jury still found him guilty. The verdict could not be overturned and he was executed. As a result of this, the man's wife took her own life in despair. The couple left behind two young children, Aoi and Akane.
The accused man called a taxi soon before his arrest, but as a result of his arrest, the taxi did not pick him up but instead picked up another fare, a surgeon who had been scheduled to operate on a young boy named Sean (who a robot would eventually be named after). The taxi was involved in a lethal accident that killed the driver, the surgeon, and by extension, the boy the surgeon was supposed to operate on. This accident would not have happened had the driver picked up the accused man.
Because 999 would never have happened if the Kurashiki parents survived, and subsequently neither Virtue's Last Reward or Zero Time Dilemma would have either, this snail indirectly caused the deaths of 6,000,000,000 humans and massive amounts of chaos and suffering.

the worst part is that the twist adds NOTING to the narrative. so, there was a fourth guy off screen, and? the only reason he's off screen is so that the player will keep on guessing who is the mastermind among the players by obscuring the right answer.
it's also so absurd when i got to the reveal i thought i accidentally got to a fragment i wasn't yet supposed to.
What made it more infuriating for me was that I got to one scene where I tested out "X" name and got a different scenario ending and it made no sense to me. And when I went back after the big reveal, it came off as super contradictory.
I'm speaking about the Mexican stand off with Team Q where I input Delta's name and got a different ending. I redid the room to because we agree to climb to the second floor to explode a wall or something. Why weren't the logistics of heaving up a blind dude in a wheel chair there? WTF was the point of pointing your gun at the kid?

Even after all these explanations, anons left out the best part. For 4 participants, this isn't even the first nonary game, they've been in one before. And at least three joined just to figure out what the frick happened there and who the bad guy (Zero/Delta) is. Yet they never talk about it, cause that would immediately give it away, cause they know he's over 100 years old at that point.

Japan's obsessed with twists/tricks, thanks to their love for Agatha Christie novels. Roman Policiers and the like never took off at the same level, though noir had a bit more luck. It's why animu like Detective Conan, Kindaichi or most of their mystery shows are trick-focused.
It seems on a pyramid with vertices Poirot, Columbo, Marlowe and Maigret, Japan just continuously goes full Poirot, which ends up a parody.
There's some Columbo love too but that also gets Poirot'd at the end, since it's a vidya board that makes Shu Takumi relevant to our discussion. He loves Columbo and Ace Attorney is his version of it but again, Agatha's style wins out, of course it goes back even farther to Honkaku and the "detective rules" so clues, suspects etc. must all be fair, which is why they became so crazy about the whole style to begin with.

It was kind of the culmination of an entire trilogy building up the mystery of "Who ARE the precursors" and it turns out be 3 daxters.

I liked the ending, but it was ruined by the sequels. The ending is that you're hopeful they'll find a way to make it work out there, but you're just as uncertain as the characters are. Having the characters return in any capacity was a mistake.
Ironically the best part about DR1 were the non-twists. When someone's dead, they're dead (I consider the twin sister thing a different category of ass pull). It's not a matrix, it's the real world and it has gone to shit. Good thing DR2 shat over that second point specifically.
I think the amnesia was explained as being caused by a machine, though I might be remembering the explanations from DR0. Also, the murderhouse was mostly built by Hope's Peak and just got taken over by Junko.

Every David Cage game has twists that are stupid bullshit. If Heavy Rain or Become Human were written by people with a brain between them they would've been amazing games.

Skull Face wasn't a twist, he's introduced and established as the villain at the end of Ground Zeroes/start of phantom pain, good on you for not hating on the Medic twist, Venom Snake is awesome.

Danganronpa V3 actively lies to you and breaks its own rules. The mastermind being the actual first killer and the first person executed explicitly is known not to be the killer actually fricks up the game. Detective fiction must be solvable before the story tells you for it to be worth a shit. Otherwise why even bother. Its a shit ending that people try to day isnt't the author telling his audience to frick off and stop asking for more games but the literal text is that.
V3 ending with that, then having the gall to leave the door open on a pre-reveal canon sequel anyway with that scene where the survivors are walking out of the dome was what really got to me. All that dick waving about it being wiped clean only to walk it back. That and the double murder trial where the concept of two killers is mentioned, and Monokuma as author insert straight up says some shit along the lines of "Wouldn't that be interesting? Too bad, it's just a game, eat up the easy solution you peasants will eat out of my hand." Just a fricking mess form front to back; at least the side-mode made up for it.

The story and suspense before the final arc and reveals are actually pretty great, but the ending can be called "flaccid" at best and "extremely moronic" at worst.
At the very least, it does have good discussions on strategy in social deduction games.
Towards the end of the game there were massive exposition dumps where the accompanying art was literally just a black screen with a tiny light in the distance. You can clearly tell that the devs were running out of money or just wanted to wrap things up and and didn't feel like paying the artist for any more art.
It's probably one of the best examples you can give of the finale being so antithetical to the rest of the vn in quality, that it can potentially retroactively ruin it all for you.

He used to date the singer and wanted to frame her for his "murder" in revenge for being ignored now that she was famous. Then it turns out it was all a misunderstanding and the singer still had feelings for the dude.

Even if the culprits would/could have been caught without the Mystery Labyrinths, Yuma still got rid of murderers who (with the exceptions of the CH2 and CH4 culprits), would likely kill or commit more crimes again.
This has a clear point to it though. The murders are attempts to make the protagonist question the validity of going to "any" lengths to find the truth, and whether discarding emotions is right or not. That's the point of the mystery dungeon. It's not to catch the killer - though Yuma may mistakenly believe it. The point is exclusively to figure out the truth. The entire game is just a take on what makes a detective
