the fight is much, much, much easier if you side with the goblins. you're going out of your way to be heroic if you side with the teiflings.

The tieflings never tried to make me smear shit on myself. The tieflings don't eat people. If you're looking for the easy path, it's ignoring the entire conflict.

          Anonymous

i'm just saying that at the point of the battle there is a very compelling reason to side with the gobbos and it's that the bigger army is telling you to kill the teiflings. your life is in far more danger fighting for the teifs than for the gobs.

            >your life is in far more danger fighting for the teifs than for the gobs

they have goblins worgs spiders minthara and ogres
they're far more threatening than level 6 zevlor and a bunch of teif guards and villagefolk
thats why saving them is the hero option, they're far weaker than the invaders

And you're right in that aspect, but it still comes across as a really dumb decision overall. I specifically went in wanting to recruit Minthara for Drussy but the game doesn't sell that side to a pragmatic character at all.

but you're looking at it like a game where you just pick your waifu and frick her

but again, the pragmatic person would see the giant spiders, the suicide bomber goblins, the evil drow sex queen, the worgs and the ogres and know how it's going to shake out. It's brave and morally right to align with the teiflings but if you want to do that roleplay thing and talk about rping a pragmatic character then the answer is to hide and side with the winner or side with the stronger army.

                >the answer is to hide and side with the winner or side with the stronger army
I have a brainworm that everyone is telling me will kill me within days. I tried talking to the druid healer, she betrayed me. I tried talking to the absolute priestess about it, she betrayed me. At this point waiting around to see who wins the local pissing contest seems pretty pointless to me.

                Anonymous

thats a fair point too and netty trying to kill you could also be justification for siding with the goblins depending on how you start the game. i could see someone rational having nettie pull out the poison needle thing then saying frick that and running to side with the other team.
but you're right that hiding is pointless. so to me if i want to put on my pragmatic hat, it's side with the bigger army, be a hero, or die

                Anonymous

That's literally what I did, except that then the other team tried to frick me over too. And Minthara's first action when meeting you is to try and mind control you, so it's not particularly smart to play along with her either. I ended up killing her and only killed the rest of the camp for munchkin reasons. Killed Jaheira too as soon as she tried her little stunt.

It wouldn't be a problem if the entire grove situation were at all well written, but it isn't. Nobody actually cares about the Grove, they just don't want to lose out on the Tiefling shit, and there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't tell them to peace the frick out before the attack.

    >Did you tell Minthara about the secret exit?

Fulfill these three conditions, telling Zevlor to escort the tieflings away from the grove should lead them to Last Light.

of course, because he was being disingenuous and just wanted to complain. BG3 isn't perfect but as far as big budget modern 3D RPGs that last 200+ hours, I've not played one with more world reactivity than it. Of course you can bring up text based game where you can literally talk directly to characters and sugggest things, or isometric games from the 90s that just have to deal with sprites and text, but as far as a full fledged modern game that looks and plays like it's AAA this is the top of the mountain for me until someone can name a game that does it better.

You can actually save the tieflings, recruit Halsin while also recruiting Minthara. It does require you to knock out Minthara when she is temporarily hostile, and then when you reach Moonrise go back to her and do some polymorph + dominate beast shenagians. That way you can still save everyone while recruiting everyone.

The problem I have with it is Kethric himself doesn't want the grove to be massacred because he is turning them via the shadow druids slowly over time anyways. Its just a random thing that makes more sense if the hobgoblin leads the charge because its in his nature, and not Minthara the strategist. Good thing it is possible to save the tieflings and recruit Minthara at the same time without the use of mods.

You could easily argue the goblins are fricking morons that are just getting manipulated, and you should easily be able to convince Minthara of that. It's not a matter of "they are evil so you have to pick the evil route", it's a matter of not being able to make an argument that clearly exists.

But she does have it during her sex scene (guessing they didn’t want the scene to be rape). But then afterwards she just goes back to being a slave. It’s really stupid that she doesn’t stick around once she is in control of herself again.

After you recruit her, she does mention that she was in control during the sex scene. But that is something that most likely was only implemented to avoid the scene being rape.

You can literally just convince her with a persuasion check to come back to the grove and talk to you. If she's in the grove, the actual prism should be able to work on her. There's no reason why that wouldn't work.

          Anonymous

yeah idk I'd have to do a run where I try that to really have a solid say either way so I can't comment. if its unexplained then it's probably because she was a late choice for a companion they added last minute so the story doesnt line up perfectly at all times. same thing happens a LOT with halsin, for instance if you use halsin and go back to the grove and talk to people they won't even acknowledge him. i think the bear by the river literally thanks halsin for rescuing master halsin if you talk to him. some stuff slips through the cracks i guess. doesn't hamper my overall enjoyment of the game but it'd be cool if it had all the details down pat.
