I don't get this logic because it implies the speedrunners haven't already played the game to death. I'm pretty sure most speedrunners only speedrun BECAUSE they already enjoy a game so much.

That makes sense in theory, from what I've seen though speedrunners are almost always only knowledgeable about parts of the the game if they're relevant to speedrunning. They don't seem to care about any other detail.
speedrunning makes sense from the perspective of:
>enjoy a game
>finish it, still want more
>100% it, still want more
>do a new playthrough trying different builds or options, still want more
>come up with all kinds of challenges, STILL want more
>eventually settle on a challenge of doing it as fast as possible
>make your own routes, improve your own methods, then confer with others when you think you've hit your limit
this is the usual logical progression and makes sense. You like a game, but there's simply not enough of it. You add your own challenge so that you can replay it.
The ones I will never get are the people who pick up a game they've never played before and immediately learn the "current" route for the game, without every doing a regular playthrough of the base game, just so they can join the club of people running it. That is truly baffling behaviour.
the only way i make sense of it is how i like racing games, and try to get a faster time on a track because its a fun track.

While that girl is hot and has nice knockers and a clean aesthetic, she's not going to get the same level of attention at a club or social event etc. At a speedrunning event she is the undisputed top tier princess. Because being hot doesn't bar you from being autismus, cringe or a nerd, it's just a false equivalency. "Hot people" are a small minority of the population and thus the chances of any person of a small group belonging to another relatively niche/small group is extremly low. There's far more ugly people who are into average Joe/Jane hobbies instead of nerd hobbies you just don't care about them.
I would argue that being "hot" as a modern woman is in itself a hobby. You don't just roll out of bed knowing how to dress correctly, wear your hair correctly, apply makeup, speak correctly, move correctly, etc.

I did a few speedruns for rabi-ribi since I already had a few hundred hours in the game. It was really fun to learn the tech and just mess around and try to improve. I think the true cancer comes from grinding for record because then you're totally beholden to bullshit meta changes that you dislike. That is, a lot of runners whine "oh I wish this had never been found" etc etc. If you play alone, you can just throw out tricks that you don't like.
It's literally the opposite. If you're just doing it for yourself you're not a speedgamer, just a funplayer. Which is fine, fun is good, but speed gaming is about going fast.
