Yeah basically this, 750+ hours in L4D2; I just can't bring myself to going slow in the game anymore, Valve designed the game with obstacles to slow you down but that just makes going fast even more enjoyable, same for HL1 and 2
it can be fun to squeeze more challenge out of a game you know thoroughly, at least a couple times
taking it to the level of neethood and playing every single day to beat an arbitrary record and then get no praise for it is mental illness
I speedrun games that I wholeheartedly love and already appreciate all of those other things
if I have an audience I make sure, while skipping dialogue, to give a very quick rundown, "in this scene he says X because Y is happening" etc so as to not seem disrespectful of an element that isn't a part of the game when speedrunning
Pointless repetitive tasks keep the autism addled brain focused on something so they're not rocking in their chairs or running around the backyard in circles.

Speedrunners find some very creative mechanics and glitches. Watching a speedrun of a game you know well can be a lot of fun, if it's not too slow. Actually performing them has zero interest to me, however. It's for giga-autists.
