RPG Maker 2003 doesn't have plugins like the newer programs, everything there is done with the program's core functionality. The only difference is that it's probably the modified version of RPG Maker 2003 that adds some extra variable operations that give you more versatility, more options with image manupulation, etc. That modded version is endorsed by the program's developers, by the way, they allow you to use it and you keep all the rights, such as publishing your games.

I know that deckbuilders, roguelites and metroidvanias are often done because they're significantly easier to do but I have no idea how Soulslikes ended up getting that big when they are expansive 3D games.
Deckbuilders aren't that bad but I think they're generally too easy to cheese, and a lot of your power in a given round depends on RNG via what you're gonna draw from the deck. Card draws and mana generation are always OP.
Metroidvanias are just 2D action platforming sidescrollers, they're easy to work with.
Roguelites also suffer from a similar problem with deckbuilders but RNG has a bigger importance and it's mitigated by permanent upgrades that you can acquire.
I know so far only about Deep State but it's yet to be released (with a demo on Itch.io). I also recall seeing some gameplay footage of someone doing some stealth, combat and keypad hacking or lockpicking in an alpha Deus Ex-like game but I don't really remember the name nor do I think I have a video file of it. Could be the same game, I don't know.
There's also Peripeteia but that's a Thief-like, not a Deus Ex-like, and also doesn't have a release yet.
For immersive sims there's Ctrl Alt Ego which gives you a lot of freedom in how you want to get through a level by taking control of various robots. Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is also a really interesting and decent one because it actually cites E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy as one of its inspirations but it's in early access.

It's not just to pad out game length, game balancing & cohesive and rewarding design of game mechanics is very hard and roguelike mechanics let success and failure come down to random chance, and if you get a bad run you just start over and hope for better luck this time

I keep looking for something closer to a real RPG that has that. Will keep an eye on Avowed though.

the story point is that they knew they could never find the eye in their lifetime, which is why the loop was created. the probe is like you, able to differ in every loop and so they launch the probe in a random direction until potentially it finds the eye by brute force.

RPG Maker 2003 doesn't have plugins like the newer programs, everything there is done with the program's core functionality. The only difference is that it's probably the modified version of RPG Maker 2003 that adds some extra variable operations that give you more versatility, more options with image manupulation, etc. That modded version is endorsed by the program's developers, by the way, they allow you to use it and you keep all the rights, such as publishing your games.

If we're speaking indie, I'd say generic survival crafting games are more prevalent in the indie department than soulslikes, soulslike are domain of AA studios

I know that deckbuilders, roguelites and metroidvanias are often done because they're significantly easier to do but I have no idea how Soulslikes ended up getting that big when they are expansive 3D games.
Deckbuilders aren't that bad but I think they're generally too easy to cheese, and a lot of your power in a given round depends on RNG via what you're gonna draw from the deck. Card draws and mana generation are always OP.
Metroidvanias are just 2D action platforming sidescrollers, they're easy to work with.
Roguelites also suffer from a similar problem with deckbuilders but RNG has a bigger importance and it's mitigated by permanent upgrades that you can acquire.

I know so far only about Deep State but it's yet to be released (with a demo on Itch.io). I also recall seeing some gameplay footage of someone doing some stealth, combat and keypad hacking or lockpicking in an alpha Deus Ex-like game but I don't really remember the name nor do I think I have a video file of it. Could be the same game, I don't know.
There's also Peripeteia but that's a Thief-like, not a Deus Ex-like, and also doesn't have a release yet.
For immersive sims there's Ctrl Alt Ego which gives you a lot of freedom in how you want to get through a level by taking control of various robots. Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is also a really interesting and decent one because it actually cites E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy as one of its inspirations but it's in early access.

I think the chink made Tale of Immortal was indie, anyway it almost hit the mark in terms of the freeform thing I'm talking about where the world gets populated with persistent characters who all have predetermined relations/families/factions that can change over time or the player can influence. I keep looking for something closer to a real RPG that has that. Will keep an eye on Avowed though.
i recently played death's door, it's not an rpg but stuff in the world changes, characters move locations and you can upgrade your abilities and it's got me thinking it would not be too much of a stretch to do what your looking for. i think it's just a matter the devs wanting to do it

Nobody wants to shoot the anime girls other than gurogays, and the one relevant anime FPS mostly has you shooting them with an orgasm gun. If you're not shooting the anime girls, you're not seeing them. In fact it's the reason why you'll regularly see Japanese TPS but almost no FPS, because you can at least see your cute girl in a third person shooter.

IMO the trick is to at least nail a consistent, memorable artstyle if you're going to appeal to both crowds, something like Final Fantasy IX or Pokemon nails it pretty well.

Nintendo certainly should care when Pizza Tower by now has made around $13-$15mil and it's only been released for 15 months
Nintendo's official figures for things like Mario Wonder was $10-$11mil (6 months from release) and Mario RPG was only $3mil and for Wonder that's the fastest a Mario game has sold
And if we look at Wario, Pizza Tower by itself has sold more units than the entire lifetime sales of Wario Land ($13mil) and WarioWare lifetime sales are $7mil
If Pizza Tower is outselling Mario spinoffs released in 2023, outselling the entire Wario Land franchise and not being too far behind mainline Mario games also released in 2023 then Nintendo should certainly care about making a new Wario Land if they want money
