generations. the gameplay is going in a straight line and sometimes 3d platforming with car controls, and 99% of the game is those horrible missions where you really have to do something tedious in 3d with the slippery controls of a car

people like to talk about how the big console releases are the worst, but there are a ton of early sonic games that are literally just nothing. they're not even so bad they're good, there's just nothing fun or interesting to say about them. almost none of the 8bit titles are worth playing.

Atleast you can laugh and have a good time mocking 06 while you play it.
Adventure 2 makes want to stop playing everytime im forced to go trough a non Sonic/Shadow stage eggman and some of chuckles ones are midly ok
Music is great but its a sonic game so it being great is the bare minimun, story is....more cringy than adventure 1 but frick it i enjoyed it, but dear god it really needed more sonic and shadow and less of everyone else.
I hold SA2 really high but I can't really defend not enough Sonic/Shadow. But people who shit on SA2 for the non Sonic but ignore the amounts of not Sonic in even a lot of the good Sonic games is actually for the course.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of the emerald and mech stages were a late addition because people wanted to play as more than just sonic and shadow.
The original lineup of characters was Sonic, Knuckles and Eggman, so it could have potentially had even less normal platforming stages.
