I've also played and dropped Zelda 1, Link to the Past, vanilla OOT, Majora's Mask, Four Swords Adventures, Skyward Sword and Four Swords Anniversary Edition.
This is deep end level shit when they hit maximum copage and need to start replacing/recontextualizing things from when they were a normal boy into something that fits their trans "journey". Because otherwise they could accidentally see a zelda game and remember when they were 9 years old and none of this mattered. The idea that their trans identity is and always was an immutable part of them can NOT be questioned because then it begs the question "Am I fricking up?"
Hi, casual Zelda fan here. I don't really enjoy these games but I know that Link is an established character who, regardless of the timeline, has a set-in-stone personality you shouldn't frick with. Making Linkle even as a silly mod is bad, because it sets the precedent that Link isn't a strong, silent hero but a kawaii, bubbly, uguu~ anime girl. It also sets the precedent that a deliberately non-canon joke character can usurp the main protagonist of a franchise, which is kind of shitty.
Is Linkle pretty? Yes. Do I like her portrayal in HW? I mean, kinda, but knowing that she is intended to be a "modern Aryll" fricks with my head. Because Aryll looks nothing like Linkle, the two are completely different characters and if anything that would mean she should have been swapped out instead of WW Link.
So all that's really being accomplished here is crossing wires that should have never been present in the first place. I suppose this isn't anything new since there was already a BOTW mod for Linkle but now it's becoming a problem. Her existence directly contradicts the game she's being grafted into, and I can't help but feel that was done on purpose by the mod creator.
Linkle fans are among the most mentally ill part of the fanbase
