i always appreciated how it was kind of an inversion of lttp where the bleak-looking "dark world" full of weird creatures actually ends up being the chillest area of the game and all the creepy monsters treat you like a neighbor. while the brighter, more cheerful light world you start in is actually the seriously dangerous one

Well Subrosia is full of lava so it is pretty dangerous, just not for the Subrosians themselves.
except for that gauntlet to get the bomb plant you pretty much always have to go out of your way to fall into it
