Cookie Cutter's ugliness, on the other hand, lacks any real edge or bite or indication of artistic intent. They took something generic looking and scuffed it up a bit— but not TOO much because otherwise it might turn some players away— while still trying to be "cool" and "stylish" in the VFX department. It's something that was made with full regard for its contemporaries, trying to leverage its ugliness as a way to stand out rather than using its ugliness in service of itself.
Cruelty Squad's ugliness is intentional in the sense of it trying to be legitimately hard to look at, CC's is just a case of someone wanting a "punk" artstyle where being ugly is more of a side effect. It's not unpleasant because it's trying to sear your eyes out, it's unpleasant because the person doing the art doesn't really get how to do Punk right or are too limited in their artistic abilities to do so. If you changed the character designs to be more typical it'd look no different than a mobile phone game.

I played it for an hour and refunded. Foreground art and sprites are great but backgrounds are bland. Music is good. Gameplay was the dealbreaker. Parry sucks, dash distance is too big, and there's so much input delay on your moves that the game can't keep up with the pace it wants you to play at. Basically just feels like an art showcase

I played it for an hour and refunded. Foreground art and sprites are great but backgrounds are bland. Music is good. Gameplay was the dealbreaker. Parry sucks, dash distance is too big, and there's so much input delay on your moves that the game can't keep up with the pace it wants you to play at. Basically just feels like an art showcase
